Exclusive Video: NBA Live 10

This year, it’s really in the game…

by Lang Whitaker

One of my beefs with basketball video games has always been that while the companies get most of it correct, they rarely get all the details right. The tattoos, the shoes, the uniforms…that stuff matters, to me and, I’m sure, to other hoop heads out there, too.

When our friends from EA Sports came by the SLAM Dome recently to show off NBA Live 10, I mentioned my concerns to them before they even fired up the game. Then they pressed play and…well, it was all in there. I mean, everything.

EA sent along this exclusive video for us to share…and finally, it’s in the game.

Sorry, gameplay still looks awful. Waiting on 2K series.

  • http://www.nba.com JE

Live ’09′s gameplay was awesome this past year. How you can gather that it looks awful from watching a video mostly consisting of tattoos and pregame rituals without a controller in your hand is beyond me. I’m pre-ordering this mothe.rfu.cker.

  • jdote

how come vince carter looks like charlie villanueva’s long lost twin

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I crossed over to 2K9 last year, and I’m never, EVER going back.

  • http://slamonline.com Lang Whitaker

I’m looking forward to playing in the Noche Latino jerseys. I wish they added a “Los Hawks” jersey.

  • DrJ

JE, if you don’t trust me, wait on official reviews. On other hand, if you think live 09 was better than 2k9, then good luck… No point arguing any further.

  • rush

JE live is soooooo wack……2k way betta…graphics, game play, everything…to be honest idk why people even live….yet alone preorder it.

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

All this extra ish won’t matter if Live still plays like ish. It’ll just be a nice looking piece of garbage.

  • whooo!

Lang, does 2k seriously not send you guys anything? can you ask them to? i understand that you’re gonna share what you receive with us, which is appreciated, but Live sucks! every year you guys here attend the launch party and get some hands on time, and every year the game sucks. all EA has been managing to do is live off their brand-name to sell units (though they did attempt to buy out their competition, which would’ve been just plain sad).

  • C’s 4 life

Why cant ea just buy the 2k series pay for the licensing for the cool unis shoes etc. and just put their name on the 2k game as it is and end the retarded argument cos 2k is a great game live is clearly awful

  • http://bleacherreport.com/users/42594-Hoops4life- Overtime

I know it must be wrong, but that advert basically says to me, the only difference from 09 is kit shoes and tatt’s? and some pre game rituals?

  • kevin k

you can get all the details in the world correct for the game but if the game sucks, it sucks. problem with NBA live is, it’s too freaking easy. I can drop 50, 10, 10 with ben wallace and the game is too arcadish for my taste. 2k is not perfect but it’s still light years better than live gameplay wise…

I’ve seen it on two separate occasions now (office and Rookie Photo Shoot), and I can testify to the fact that gameplay is new and improved.

  • david

Ya’ll need to stop hating on live…you acting like 2k9 actually played like real baketball ball… it was nba jam 2k9. i actually think live might turn out to be better than 2k bcuz the only problem live had was rebounding and defense, the ai was alreay better than 2k by last year so i think we might all be surprised come this october. be on the lookout for live 10 this year you all!

  • http://blambot.com Spaceship Jay

WHAT!! Authentic tattos!?!? Pre-game rituals!?! 500 SNEAKERS!? Whoa, I’m in line at my local Game Stop as I type this. The guys at NBA 2K never do any marketing, because they spend to much money and time on developing…… You guessed it, NBA 2K. It’s over EA. Work on making Fight Night good again.

I’m a producer on NBA LIVE 10 and I know what we’ve been in the past, but we have a new team in place and a new direction — authenticity. From gameplay (most important) to visuals and presentation. We want you guys to feel like NBA LIVE 10 is a completely new basketball game, and I’m confident that you guys will in due time.

Again, I get the skepticism, but we’re releasing a TON of information and videos to right this ship. Take a look at this link for what gameplay looks like:

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com/madlib Michael NZ

The gameplay people… ITS THE GAMEPLAY THAT MATTERS. Pre game rituals? Who cares! Would watch once then never again.
I ended up with both 2k9 and Live 09 last season… I played Live ONCE. Thats all you need to know.

  • vmcb

    NBA2K10 Special Collector’s Edition.

    Enough said.

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com/madlib Michael NZ

And lets just say that NBA Live has some work to do on the powder dynamics… That screenshot has Bron looking like he’s doing something else….

  • Da Hood

The doctor hit it right on the head, what they show us was a GIMMICK to get us hyped. Im not fooled. Gameplay looks no different frm last year, Step it up, EA!

  • http://www.nbalive10.com stephensonmc

@Michael NZ — really? It looks pretty close to this:

  • http://drexlerwasabeast.com nbk

Live will definately be better boys and girls. they hired one of the lead developers from 2k to be the lead developer on live. But uh 2k still sits on top of the mountain.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

You know, the NBA Live gameplay might actually be better than last year’s, because EA BIT 2K SPORTS. They recruited one of the designers from 2k and made him one of the lead men on this project. They tried to engineer almost an exact replica of the gameplay mechanics that 2K has… Wow. Not that I understand much about it, but that seems pretty sketchy to me. I hope it isn’t true.

  • D12FSU

I switched to 2K last year…and it was the best basketball game i ever bought….but my fanhood requires me to but the game with Dwight onthe cover…AHHH i am torn… =(

  • D12FSU

    to buy the game*

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Granted, I am willing to try out both. I’ll have to check out Stephenson’s link, but I’m always copping 2K.

  • Da Hood

stephensonmc, good sir. We don’t believe you, you need more people! It just looks cheap, you guys need to blow the hole thing up.

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com/madlib Michael NZ

My favorite was Live 95 on Sega.

  • NELL86

2k9 was so fake it dint make no since but this year live is looking sick

  • lawlow

i tested live 10 last month, and the gameplay is pretty decent. Graphics are sweet though.

  • I LOVE 2K

  • Captain Jean-Luc Picard

    buying both asap. gotta have

  • CJK

here’s another link to a nba live 10 video talking about improved gameplay…. i’ll admit i have bought the game in the past on the EA name alone, but last year i seriously considered it before siding with Live again and i for sure will this year. the sizeups look sweet!

  • Dan

2K9 was a bad, arcade game for kids, and this year it seems live goes sim.I thing live10 will be the king of basketball sims.

  • Tyrone Shoelaces

Still skeptical, will probably rent both to try out, but so far leaning towards 2k. I’ve seen 5 Live10 videos and like 4 2k10 screenshots and i’m already leaning towards 2k.

  • NJ4Life

2k all day. Live gets hyped every year, never lives up.

  • I LOVE 2K

  • http://slamonline.com 360vue

i used to love live… but since 2k6 or 5 whichever had shaq i havent looked back… sooo much better gameplay… ea is a few years behind still unles they have really caught up this year… but ill probably buy it and if it stinks ill return and get 2k10.. if it doesnt, ill have both.. cant have enough ball in your life, whether real or virtual

  • Escott Ingles

It is refreshing to see the majority practice sound reasoning. From a technical stand point, 2k has long held the crown in basketball and that does not look to be changing anytime soon.

  • http://www.nbalive10.com stephensonmc

    Da Hood,

No worries man, you’ll see soon enough in the demo ;)

  • http://slamonline.com 360vue

“how come vince carter looks like charlie villanueva’s long lost twin ”
haha they really have just used the same mould for both.. good spot

  • Unsilent Majority

  • http://www.nbalive10.com stephensonmc

Actually, that’s not the case at all. We have facial animations in our game this year instead of stagnant, zombie looks. This changes their expression. In-game, Vince looks like Vince.

  • I LOVE 2K

  • WOW

like i care about 500 sneakers and tats just make a good game for once ea and put draft class in it

  • I LOVE 2K

I mean 2k is gonna have those same sneakers tattoos and all!! 2k is just the better more fun(realistic)game! like i said in my other comment i play 2k9 everyday and eveytime i play it i see something new with nba live its just the same thing!! players in 2k have they’re own signature moves everyone in nba live does the same things!! i think 2k just cares more about the nba game than the people who create nba live! P.S. why does the crowd still look like garbage??

  • 6marjon

i thought 2k gameplay was better in 09 but the features were crap

  • iamse7en

Who cares about all the throwbacks, shoes, tattoos and pre-game rituals – the game play is not nearly as good as the 2K series.

See all the game ratings and reviews, they echo the same thing. I’ve given up on the NBA Live Series.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

I liked how 2K9 had the special, unique releases to almost all of its players. It had Lil’ Nate’s high jumping slingy smooth shot, it had Ray Allen’s silky smooth jumper, it had Barbosa’s awkward chest shot, it had everything. And on free throws/jump shots the different timings of release you had to have for each player was so realistic!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

And 21 was an awesome additional feature. So fun, it felt like playing three-way 21 with your friends in the park.

  • I LOVE 2K

who cares? everyone cares you idiot thats what makes the game realistic!! If you’re not trying to make the game as realistic as possible then what are you wasting your time making them for??? thats what 2k does so well like madden is doing now taking everything you see in a real televised game and putting that into the game(authenticity, realism)is the key people!!

  • http://antwonomous.blogspot.com Antwonomous

Impressive…but it still can’t touch the 2K series…Gameplay is the key to a basketball game, and 2K has always had a clear edge in that department…even looked better to me…Live is more popular because the majority of people who play don’t care about realism, they just want to have fun playing…it’s style over substance.

  • slamfan4life

2k has had most of this sh!t, i might cop live but def not b4 2k

  • adiktus888

capitaL W O W…. Looks damn amazing, I never expected this from Live series. Best Nba game ive EVER seen since 2k8.. The Pre game and the authenthic kicks just MURDER it.. Time to pre order! Im Glad ive made that switched from 2k9 to NBA Live 10 this year… EA sports good job!!! Keep it up..

I’ll probably be coppin’ 2k10, but I can’t front; I got pretty excited when I saw someone wearing converse weapons in that video.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

It looks great. But so did the last four or five NBA Live games. Gameplay-wise? NBA Live was great for an entire decade. I still have NBA Live 2003 installed in my laptop and revisit it every time I need a basketball fix. But after 2004 it really went down the drain. EA’s advent of gameplay sliders gave them the excuse of releasing an incredibly unbalanced game. Mind bogglingly so. I think in NBA Live 2005 it was literally IMPOSSIBLE to run a fast break since players were unable to catch an outlet pass in stride, and instead did a slow-mo jump stop every time they caught the ball – UNTHINKABLE since 2005 was the height of the Suns-led small ball revolution.

  • onions baby onions

2K and live had each had their years and i honestly have no idea which one will come out on top in terms of gameplay this year. However its weird cuz i can’t help but feel like live (ea) has the resources to put out something that would straight up kill 2K, it just never seems to happen.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

EA Sports *has* the ability to make great games, mind you. Look at the other sports. Despite a lack of competition in boxing games, EA’s Fight Night series has improved year after year (with the exception of Round 4). Their FIFA series has always lagged light years behind the Japanese Winning Eleven games, but they’re definitely catching up over the last few years. Madden is apparently the definitive football game. Yet why is NBA Live’s gameplay worsening with every year?

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Seriously, anyone play Winning Eleven / Pro Evo Soccer here? That is the gold standard of sports games, in terms of gameplay nuances. The sheer volume of one-on-one moves, and the fact that they are effective, balanced and not just for show, is one thing. Even a simple thing like passing the ball in Winning Eleven has so much depth to it, since you have pin-point control over the pass’ *recipient*, and can decide where your player receives the ball and how he’ll face the opponent when he gains control. Compare this to NBA Live, where as recently as 4 years ago it was impossible to *not* come to a COMPLETE STOP every time you caught the ball on the break… and it’s a real embarrassment.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

I’m actually really glad – and impressed – to see that regulars on this site (Teddy, Zee, Allenp, Michael NZ, Spaceship J, etc.) “get” the fact that the 2K series is just so much better than NBA Live right now, because EA has become so infatuated with shoes and licensing and Slam Dunk competitions and all the bells and whistles that they’ve entirely forgotten that hard core fans (i.e. people like us) want to actually play the game.

  • dezzz1

all 2k fun please stop being ignorant because it makes you guys look slow no offense. but really look at lives gameplay they have changed a lot and adding those 500 new sneakers and jerseys and pregame routine adds more thing to the game and adding hustle plays we all know 2k already had that and live are tryin to get it right with basketball. I don’t even care if they don’t beat 2k all i care for is them gettin a better ratings than last year THANK U LIVE. LIVE REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY IS BACK.

  • teebone21

why are all these 2k fanboys posting about a live video. are you guys the ones i see online trying to make every one of your points in the paint in a ranked game? is that what makes 2k9 fun? Sorry kids but 2k9 isnt realistic at all but its fun to kids who perfer to dunk all game as opposed to actually playing real basketball. Live has a new development team and yet you idiots keep saying 2k is better? wtf is that? this is a new year, a new era and you guys need to get off your asses and enjoy the spirit of competition

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

NBA Live doesn’t suck. In fact for a decade were dominant. 95 and 96 continue to be timeless classics. 97 and 98′s 3-d graphics were cutting edge at the time. And 2000 remains, imho, the most balanced basketball simulation ever made. 2003 and 2004 were near perfect. NBA Live franchise doesn’t suck – it’s the experienced, talented veteran team which has inexplicably blown a 20-point lead to a younger, hungrier opponent. Time will tell, of course, if NBA 2010 sets things right. I’m really hoping it does.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

And for the record, anybody who makes a blunt claim that anyone who remotely disagrees that NBA Live is teh kewl is a “fanboy” or “bias 2K employee” either 1.) is cerebrally diminutive, 2.) has never played an NBA Live game prior to 2006, 3.) has never dribbled a basketball in his or her life, 4.) is someone who, the odds are, has never previously posted a comment on this site, or 5.) is all of the above.

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com/madlib Michael NZ

Joel O’s is right: for me, 1995 and then 2000 remain the benchmark(s).

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

NBA live 2004 frustated me to no end joel. That was the only game where I could be open for a layup and throw up one of those two-handed WNBA flings at the front end of the rim

  • http://www.basketbrasil.com.br Rubens Borges

How is the post play in 2K series? If it’s good Im changin

  • Teddy-the-Bear

One complaint I have with all basketball games is 1-on-1, man-to-man defense. Its tough to stick with your man when you shuffle side-to-side because it sort of always moves the player too much, or it somehow makes you “slippery” and your man can get by you even if you tried to stay with him.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

One of the funniest (and fun) American football games I have ever played was NFL Quarterback Club ’99, for N64. Anybody else play it? That game was hilarious, all you had to do was take the QB, run down the sidelines back towards your endzone, and the other team would be on your heels. Then if you swung around to the other side of the field and ran up back towards the other team’s endzone, the defenders would follow your exact path and you could score… with your QB.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

The coolest NBA game ever has to be NBA Showtime for N64. That joint was TIGHT!

  • Teddy-the-Bear

That or ‘Bill Laimbeer’s Combat Basketball’, LMAO.

  • stokesey

it killed me to change over to the 2k series(as i did last year) but yeah its all about the gameplay, one thing id love to see though is if your getting pumped in the game or your team flat out sucks then you see ppl walking out/or theres a half empty stadium…

  • http://www.nba.com JE

Sesa: haha, I wish I was an EA sports rep. I’m a 20 year old college student. I like NBA Live…sue me.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

@Micheal NZ: Roger. 2000 is, sadly enough, still the best NBA Live made in the last decade, simply because it feels (surprise!) most like an actual basketball game.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Also, it’s not even that the 2K series is perfect. Far from it, actually, and I think besides nicer graphics and whatnot the 2K series’ best games are still inferior to NBA Live’s best incarnations. It’s just that 2K has simply kept improving in the short time since its inception, while EA’s obsession with All-Star weekend, slam dunk competitions, hot spots, ludicrously unguardable hop steps, and all the other bells and whistles has made their games deteriorate to the extent that 2K has, against all odds, caught up in a much shorter time than anyone expected.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

The exclusive trailer posted on this site, I’m sorry, doesn’t instill and faith in me. Shoes? Jerseys? Tattoos? I’m worried that EA’s 2010 obsession might be in “pimping” teams in cool gear. But this is a basketball game, for heaven’s sakes, it isn’t World of Warcraft or Maple Story.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

@melvin ely: Yeah. 2003-2004 also had an annoying quirk about it in that the AI opponent has the incredible ability to intercept every pass that floats across their players’ range.

  • Rui Santos

Had the chance to play both NBA Live 09 and NBA 2K9 and have to admit: 2K9 was better. The game was more fluid, the defense was remarkable and the graphics simply amazing. NBA Live 09 is a good game but it has many flaws as you can receive the ball and almost dunk from the 3pt line by pressing square. I like both games, but give 2K Sports its credit. They created a hell of a game and just adding a My Player Mode will make it even better. Been a fan of Live since 2002, but changed in 2007 for 2K7. Still looking forward for both games though, don’t know what will I buy.

  • Rich

2K cannot be touched. Last time I played Live was when J Kidd was on the cover. I haven’t missed a beat buying every 2K year after year. If only 2K could start making NFL games again…

  • Orlando Woolridge

Long time Live guy, so I’m wondering if they changed the shoot button back to where it would release the ball when you let go of the button. I tried both games last year, and in both games, you just hit the shoot button and the game did everything else for you. You couldn’t travel if you wanted to, although in Live, you could control the release a little bit. I liked when you had some control over when the ball was released and if you didn’t release it in time, your player would be called for traveling. Anyone else know what I’m trying to say?

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

@Orlando: I think you’re talking about “shot control”. There usually is an option to turn it on or off…

  • http://www.nbalive10.com stephensonmc

@Orlando, yes there is shot timing.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

2K has always had shot timing, Orlando… I’m pretty sure Live has had it too… What versions have you been playing?

  • Orlando Woolridge

Oh seriously? I have Live 09 for ps3. Maybe I just didn’t see the shot control thing. All I know is that if you hold the shoot button, it will eventually release the ball before the player hits the floor again whether you release the button or not. It didn’t used to do that in the older versions. This is something I can change? I’ll check it out when I get home. Thanks.

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

I’ve always been loyal to the live series (whether it’s bettor or not) so I’ll probably stick with live 10′. It looks pretty sick this year though, I’m excited. I’ve been buying like since 95′ though so I’ve gotta stick with it.

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

Speaking of which, I busted out Live 97′ for my computer (why I still have that, I do not know) not to long ago and couldn’t believe how I ever played that…That one was sporting Mitch Richmond on the cover.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Oh okay, not sure about that then. I know that if you do hold the ball and it releases, it won’t be an accurate shot. If you want shot timing though, it should always let you pick your releases. Not sure if you hold it though. Older versions of the games, yeah it let you travel I think. Again, I’m not 100% sure lol.

  • http://www.nba.com Pardeep

Im can’t wait to play in the Vancouver Grizzlies Unis.

  • Clipp Show 714

NBA 2K10 for me. NO questions asked.

  • Clipp Show 714

I stopped buying Live after 06. That game was probably the worst bball game made. 2k keep getting better every year.

  • http://www.nba.com Pardeep

I still think 2K is better though.

  • Josh D

I wish they’d put some of the stuff which Madden has in NBA Live(i.e create teams, stadiums, and Superstar mode) being British, i didn’t know much about American Football when i bought it, and i found the sport itself kinda woosy(they wear about 12 layers of padding, but if they’re tackled you have to start over again, but in rugby union, no one wheres padding and the game goes on after a tackle, common! That is a bit woosy)Anyway, tha games features were so good that if it was for basketball i know that i’d be hooked for a year until the new version came out, Live lacks certain aspects, like no create teams and All star selections on dynasty(Tim Duncan is hardly ever selected) Personally, i think 2k9 is a little better though that has stuff to be patched up too

  • Josh D

Actually looking at those ads the gameplay looks like its nearly there and the graphics are immense, but improvements in the non gampeplay like i’ve just said would b good

  • Josh D

I’ve just looked at 2k10 on their website and their incorparating a My Player mode and the D-League into their latest game

  • LA Huey

Maybe Live will turn it around now that they have a 2K guy running things. It can’t best 2K this year though. They need to overhaul that entire gameplay engine for Live, not just tweak it. I do hope Live can eventually challenge for the crown though. Competition breeds excellence, right?

And now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to preorder my 2K10 Special Anniversary Edition and wait patiently for 2K10 Combine.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Random Guy

  • Josh D

I don’t hate Live i just prefer 2k and don’t get me wrong both games look awesome but little stuff like the National teams on Live r a bit inaccurate, only three players on the GB team r actually players who have played for them in the last two summers, the rest r guys who either played in the first summer of GB when they had mostly players from the British League, guys who played for England before the GB team was formed,or guys who r the first people who spring into their minds when they think British Basketball( John Amaechi and Kelenna Azuibuke?)Hell, they can’t even be bothered to call GB instead England

  • Big Lami

2K8 was best NBA game…I wasnt feelin either game in 2009…I am skeptical about Live 2010 and am gambling 2K10 will be King again

  • trick..

I switched from live to 2K last year.. im not going back, 2k just plays better..

  • whooo!

i just had to include this photo – it just shows that 2k includes the same tats & in-game intros, only difference is that’s not the focus of their improvements! i really do think if Live would just start from the ground up, that’d be nice. there’s tech they’ve used, like the way players’ feet realistically move on the ground (after years of ice-skating across the floor), and other unique things they have yet to take advantage of. build a whole new engine with the guy they took from 2k, let him re-build the game and really utilize the good things they have and ignore all the fluff.

  • whooo!

also, unlike the random ppl who have started posting just for this video, i’m pretty sure other Slam regulars are only concerned about a good game – REGARDLESS of who makes it. that’s the whole point of competition: to get the best product out. why the hell should we care who makes it? EA nor VC hasn’t done crap for us, aside from taking our money, so i’ll just go with the game that’s the best.

  • BogMog

    2k is mo better

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Co-sign whooo! Good points man.

  • justophat

2K series took over basketball games…. sorry Live, gameplay sucks

  • http://myspace.com/2grownup2beshownup Jack

Still looks like it sucks this year, the start tells it all, jerky gameplay and player movement, and the graphics are NOT as good as 2K’s.

  • Nikezoom12

@stephensonmc I would like to know somethin about the practice facility did u guys renovated and what is the news things in live accademy?

stephensonmc you can not try to compare the BS video showing LBJ tossing chalk into the with the Live 10 pre-game. Where the hell is the chalk cloud? The Pic at the top of the page is of the chalk is a straight line and not a plume! Yet you don’t see the difference.

I liked the fact that Live last year had the ability to run plays just about anywhere in the offensive side of the floor. Too bad 2k has not done that. Live’s rebounding and defense has been suspect for years.

The E3 and hustle play vid’s has piqued my interest in Live for this year. NHL raised the bar for hockey. Madden improved this year (cause it ain’t been shyt since 05).

I am going to rent Live and 2K. The demo’s may show something but to drop $60 for crappy unrealistic basketball is not going to work for me.

Does LeBron shakes hands at the end of games on the videogame?

I think it’s great when developers add all the extras – jerseys, shoes, etc. etc. It seems like a minor detail, but when you play franchises extensively, stuff like this can keep the experience fresh over the long haul..Obviously the gameplay has to be up to snuff though.. I’ll give Live some credit they have come a long way since NBA Live 06, that might have been the worst b-ball game I’ve ever played lol… NBA 2K is a must buy though, they have much smoother gameplay and the animations link together in a seamless fashion that is not seen in NBA Live…. I’ve owned all the Live’s and 2K’s on the Xbox360, and while the gap is closing, the boys at NBA Live have their work cuot out if they wanna surpass 2K.. And all you foam at the mouth fanboys need to realize that the more NBA LIve improves, the better 2K will become, competition is a good thing ya dummies…

making a basketball game is far more complicated then any other sports game. because of all the different plays, rules, body types, moves. the court size. therefore it is impossible to realy make a realistic basketball game.

football is easy, american football is kind of easy, golf haha and hockey is also easier then bball.

I havn’t played live in years and I played 2k a couple of times last season and in terms of realistic gameplay and nuances of the game it was well… not that good

Joel O’s, PES has been sh!t since they moved on to next gen and the lack of licences is starting to get embarassing. Fifa ’09 was head and shoulders above PES 09.

nba live has and always will be garbage. it doesnt matter that they swooped on one of 2k’s developers and have enough money to spread hype all over slam with producers replying to posts and sh**. stephonsonMC how can you really lie to all these people? we all know you HAVE played 2k and we all know you KNOW 2ks better. but whatever gets you money dog

Live sucks hard core, like the gameplay is so arcadey and the graphics are ok at best, the commentary sucks, i read somewhere on this commentary thread that this live lover was all like 2k got competition this year, notice how this is supposed to be a pro-nba live post but everyone here is like live sucks? wow live doesn’t have competition cuz its not even in the contest you dolt! 2K IS THE SHIZZY!!!

Why do both games lack any good post play? Why do we need a primary button to throw an oop? How many oops are thrown in a regular nba game? 3-4 at most why is triangle assigned to that in live? 2K9′s movement was stiff and Live was a lil cartoony. The control changes in live are getting worse. Live 95 is probably the best basketball videogame ever. waitin for the 2k9 demo. Bought live last year because 2k9 dribble moves are terrible. I dont see how people thought 2k9 looked better live was def graphically better, smoother interactions between players and the pick and roll was a great addition, dont have a clue why the tweaked that, it worked perfect. I know this is getting a lil long, I’m critical about basketball video games because i’ve spent more time playing ball than anything else but sleep. I hope they made Dwight Howard have no post moves like he does in real life. And not every player should be able to do the european two step, theres maybe ten players in the league that can do it effectively, they might as well put Lebron’s crab dribble in it. Play the demos and buy whichever feels better.

Oh and Live 10 has no stop and pop. I cuts to character animation drifting left or right. U got to come to a complete stop then hit the shoot button. So forget about running to the three point line and pulling up on a dime. However I do like the fact that you can choose the hand You go up with, however I dont think everyone in the nba is that talented with both hands, definetly not Andrew Bynum, or Dwight Howard. I know a key feature was to have teams play like they do in real life, what happens when a team posts up like the Spurs? Don’t mean to harp on it but Live 09 did an injustice by making R3 the post button and the right analog the post move controller. Being able to control team management stuff during freethrows was long overdue. Kudos EA to adding that. Ref animation during the free throws was a bonus too. How bout getting license from the actual NBa refs to be in the game, would add an air of realism. You might have to get replacements for this upcoming year though
