Video: Gilbert Arenas Explosive Dunk

It was a surprise appearance, but a welcome one this Friday at the Goodman League at Barry Farms Rec Center. Playing with the likes of ‘Dre Iguodala and QRich, Arenas reportedly stood out well above the rest.

In case you haven’t been following Arenas closely this summer, he’s been popping up at Pro Ams and tournaments, getting his run on, and the reports keep getting better. But words are one thing. It’s another to see it for yourself.

Watch ’til around 5:46, to see the New Gilbert. The Explosiveness. The Power. The Agility. It’s all there. So much that you have to wonder whether this truly is the same dude:

Arenas had 35 points, mostly on aggressive drives to the basket. He was surprisingly spry and springy, as he effortlessly attacked the rim for dunks. He had two-handed slams. He had a vicious tomahawk slam. He even dunked on someone. When was the last time you recall seeing Arenas dunking?

More impressive, he wasn’t wearing a knee brace or favoring his leg in any way. The explosion wasn’t all the way there, but it was close. After Arenas blew past two defenders to get to the basket and draw a foul, Rawls said, “Gil came out here tonight and I think we can safely say, the knee is fine. Looks like I’m going to have to renew my seats at the Verizon Center.

No knee brace. Attacking the basket. Agent Zero could finally be back next season. Just keep those fingers crossed.

    I’m glad pros still play in these outdoor leagues on the playground. It reminds us that some athletes still play for the love of the game, and for more than just the dough.

    thats my homies video here…and I was the guy screaming 52 wins….

    being 10 feet away from him and watching the man return “after a 1 year absence” (from the Barry Farms league…not the NBA), it was a great sight to see….

    all game he was totally agressive and showed none of the normal charachteristics of someone who’s had a severe knee injury

    so yes, I can scream 52 wins…Aim High like the Air Force…

    oh and those NB’s are the 498′s

    oh and BTW…Miles is the greatest summer league announcer in the United States…get familiar….MOVE EM!

    Yall are tripping. I was at that game and I can tell you the dude is back. I don’t mean that he’s going to be able to do everything like he never left, but he’ll be able to TRY without wincing in pain every two minutes. The dude is looking in great physical shape and doesn’t seem to be favoring his knee at all.

    4 all those hating on the announcer and calling it a rec league need to do ur homework… da goodman league is one of the top and most respected summer leagues in the country… if ur sum ass u get picked on, if u do well u get respect… jus cause ur not in the league doesnt mean ur not worth playing against… most of those players are street hoop legends, college players, top ranked high school players, or nba stars… Move Em!!!
