Video: Vince Carter, UNC Alumni Game

You might be wondering where (or even if) Vince Carter will show up in the SLAMonline Top 50 Players list. Ten names have already been revealed, only two of them older than Carter. It’s becoming a young man’s game, which sort of reminds us of the good ‘ole days when Vince was flying like a 757 at Chappel Hill. Here, sit back and treat yourself to some highlights…

Wait, you say these clips were from last Friday’s UNC alumni game?! Well then… we didn’t think he still had that. Vince is toying with Antawn Jamison and Ray Felton!

So can Vince still be part of the Top 50 this season? Don’t talk yourself out of it.

The initial picture/link to this article confused the hell out of me.

  • vic21 Posted: Sep.8 at 1:42 pm
VC still can go up there no question about it

  • Jukai Posted: Sep.8 at 1:43 pm
I never had a doubt he’d be in the top 50. Low thirties, for me. He’s going to be an impact player on a near-championship team: how could he not make it?

  • Ken Posted: Sep.8 at 1:57 pm
And honestly, while he’s less exciting and flashy than he used to be, his game is also more complete now. How many people other than LeBron put up numbers in the 20+/5/5 area? Caron comes to mind, but the point is that there are very few. I think VC will be a top 50 player next season for sure.

VC would make it easy is that he has so many haters,in his prime he could take down any one. Now he has a contending team which he never had.

  • ENDS Posted: Sep.8 at 3:35 pm
Niether did Turkoglu, but we made a pretty good run with that Half *** aproach once we can Mos Def Do It Again

  • walt williams Posted: Sep.8 at 3:47 pm
Damn VC has still got it

  • Pardeep Posted: Sep.8 at 4:27 pm
Next year is the return of Vincanity I’ve said a million times if my Lakers fu(k up next year somehow Vince Carter is going to have his Paul Pierce moment. All-star game next year for sure and 19 ppg and 5 assits with 5 boards, guarnteed trip to the eastern finals.

  • albie1kenobi Posted: Sep.8 at 4:29 pm
anyone notice the intro music for the game was the old Bulls intro song?

  • niQ Posted: Sep.8 at 4:31 pm
    Wow.

  • BETCATS Posted: Sep.8 at 4:38 pm
Wayne Ellington and Brandon Wright both had better dunks then Vince.

  • J.B Posted: Sep.8 at 5:02 pm
    Did MJ play?

  • luv2ball Posted: Sep.8 at 5:09 pm
Damn Vince is it like that? Wayne E and Brandon Wright aren’t 32years old either BETCATS. Vince is representing for the 30 and up crowd.

  • JE Posted: Sep.8 at 5:39 pm
@J.B. I know nothing about this game, but I can guarantee, if MJ played, we’d all know about it.

  • showmeyourwits Posted: Sep.8 at 6:13 pm
    Ed Cota!? LOL

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Sep.8 at 6:27 pm
with all due respect SLAM people, but the little piece around this youtube clip is ridiculous. “IF” he’s in the SLAM top 50…. blablabla. If I’m looking at those first couple of names, VC has to be in it. You can’t name 50 players better than Vince, and this article is probably to fool us.

  • Brad Posted: Sep.8 at 6:37 pm
Agree with Gerard. Also, I wonder who Stack is waving at in that photo. He must have seen an old college buddy in the stands, right when Vince was going up for a dunk.

  • max Posted: Sep.8 at 7:36 pm
i like how vince gets hated on for consistently putting up 21 5 and 5 and being a mature leader. there is a reason the magic risked quite a bit to snag him. vince is perfect for being ‘one of the guys’ .. he will thrive as a magic and lead them to the title.

  • MattM Posted: Sep.8 at 8:36 pm
It almost brings tears to my eyes to see Ed Cota throwing oops to Vince like it was 1997…

  • Prison Mike Posted: Sep.8 at 8:57 pm
at first i wondered, “did Vince actually graduate to be called an alumni?” then I remembered, “yes, he definately did graduate. how can anyone ever forget that vince graduated?”

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Sep.8 at 9:17 pm
Vince looks more in shape than I’ve ever seen him after 2001.

  • Darksaber Posted: Sep.8 at 10:11 pm
Wow, i mean, wow…Vince still has so much air and style on those Dunks.

  • airs Posted: Sep.8 at 11:06 pm
    old bulls entrance song??
    they’re still using it.

I’ve never seen a wind mill off the backboard in person…but I Will

  • Anton Posted: Sep.8 at 11:44 pm
Woo, watch that boy get higher than Michael Beasley on a long weekend.

  • natedog446 Posted: Sep.9 at 12:42 am
top 50? pshhhhhh more like top 20. vc had one of his best seasons of all time last year. its sad that nobody even noticed it

  • Boo This Man Posted: Sep.9 at 1:17 am
Sorry Orlando but you will probably not be seeing this carter come and play. Even if you are so lucky it wont last long ;) Hes a chump, doesnt matter how good he COULD be, it comes down to how hard he trys. The answer to that is not as hard as he can. Sure carter could be in the top 50, dont think he deserves to.

  • larrylegend Posted: Sep.9 at 5:10 am
vc in carolina blue throwing it down…unpayable!

  • Hursty Posted: Sep.9 at 5:40 am
Oh. My. Goodness. To be doing an alley-oop off the backboard windmill at age 32? (Almost 33) That’s crazy. That’s really, really amazing.

  • karan Posted: Sep.9 at 6:56 am
    where’s jordan?

  • Darksaber Posted: Sep.9 at 7:16 am
Hursty is so right. And i agree with ENDS sentiment. This year’s tip 50 feels stale and…. Outdated. (never mind the Nostradamus criteria) The initial excitement of past editions isn’t there for me. Ryne & Co. might wanna come upwith a new format forbthe run up to the the pre-season.

  • MeloMan15 Posted: Sep.9 at 8:51 am
    WOWWWW!! he styll has that?
thats why us raptor fans r so mad…. do ur thing VC

  • Darksaber Posted: Sep.9 at 9:50 am
Meloman!!! Longtime no read, playa. Welcome back.

  • GOAT Posted: Sep.9 at 11:16 am
    Boooourns

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Sep.9 at 11:52 am
“Boo this man”; apparently you don’t know how good he played for the Nets, and that especially after Kidd left, he showed what a great leader he is. If you just don’t know any better, well, that’s how it is then. But if you claim to have some knowledge of NBA basketball, you also will know that calling Vince Carter a “chump” is quite emabarrassing as a posted on this site.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Sep.9 at 12:13 pm
“i dont give a siht about north carolina” roy williams

  • riggs Posted: Sep.9 at 12:41 pm
    @boothisman: <—boo this man

  • BETCATS Posted: Sep.9 at 2:32 pm
MJ didnt play, he was their as a spectator/had his number added to the hall of fame banner. Tyler also didnt play, as he was injured.

  • Logues Posted: Sep.9 at 6:28 pm
too bad mj didnt play.. and that windmill of the oop was filthy

  • TMT Posted: Sep.9 at 6:59 pm
Like Jay Z said “Thirty is the new Twenty.”

  • chintao Posted: Sep.9 at 11:41 pm
It’s too bad Tyler didn’t play against Vince. We could all be laughing right now as we read about Hansbrough having a basketball surgically removed from his anus.

  • Blinguo Posted: Sep.10 at 5:36 am
Hursty, the Jordan XII commercial, MJ was even older doing the FT line dunk, 34, I think without checking it. And of course had to do it several times to get the best shot of it. Vince of course is synonymous with that catch windmill.
    -
Adding to chintao’s burn incarnate, lucky Tyler wasn’t out there to get Fred Weis’d. Undercrown t-shirt brand would then quickly photoshop their Obama “O-Face” over McCain shirt in UNC colors & with Dr Funk.

  • MeloMan15 Posted: Sep.10 at 9:32 am
thanks dark! its been a whilee

  • Dfrance Posted: Sep.10 at 5:12 pm
It kills me how some people get mad at an athlete for not being who they want them to be. Why not appreciate Vince for the great bball player that he is, instead of being mad at him for not becoming Michael Jordan? Losers.

  • Half Wit Posted: Sep.11 at 4:38 am
Yeah lets all be glad vince carter gets paid millions of dollars to not put it all on the floor. or only does when he cares.

  • MR4U Posted: Sep.15 at 7:18 pm
    Was Eric Montross playing?
