Gil Arenas definitely leads the L in quoteables per word this season. (via TAI)

sounds sad, but funny as hell

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Nov.2 at 4:36 pm
A very familiar scene. This same thing happened to me and some other media guys when he was in Chicago for a preseason game a couple of weeks ago.

a sullen and silent Gilbert makes the world go round’! U of A por vida!!!

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Nov.2 at 4:48 pm
Bryan, all afternoon I’ve been scratching my head, thinking, ‘Who was it that had the same experience?’ At least he’s being consistent… nothing bipolar about this.

  • kh Posted: Nov.2 at 5:04 pm
Is he sad or depressed? He sure isn’t playing as if he doesn’t like his life or basektball for that matter!?!
We all knew he was a little ‘quirky’ but he looked and sounded bummed out.

i was dyinggg laughing. that was awesome. Somehow the new Arenas is just as funny..somehow

His hairline is receding quickly. That’s what I took out of this clip.

Gil is still the most entertaining player even when hes purposely doing his best to not entertain. OR IS HE? I mean think about it, if Gil came out talking like he used to, sure, what he said would get reported a bit as there goes quirky gil. but manipulating the press through his lack of speech has caused more attention and IMHO casued people to look at the hes playing alot more than the quirky Gil of old would have.

“I’ll be excited once I leave here and get into my own car.” Haha that’s excellent. Keep bringing the wins home, Gil.

  • iamse7en Posted: Nov.2 at 7:54 pm
He’s doing this to spite the media for saying he talks too much. It’s hilarious, and it makes me love him more. Gil is whet.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.2 at 7:59 pm
I think its awesome that Gilbert is LITERALLY letting his game do the talking for him.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.2 at 8:01 pm
    Man those interviews are hilarious.

  • Z Posted: Nov.2 at 8:41 pm
COME. ON. Is it a by-law or some sort that journos in the scrum are not allowed to ask open-ended questions but instead start their sentences by ”Can you talk about…” I suspect that most guys actually write their articles before the game ends and then leave holes to be filled out by the players’ quotes. ”Hey Gil, can you talk about what I’ve already decided would be the topic of my 4th paragraph?”

  • Jrooks Posted: Nov.2 at 10:13 pm
Agent 0 arrived on the scene

  • DP Posted: Nov.3 at 12:10 am
this guy is freakin hilarious. play wit it.

  • stryfee Posted: Nov.3 at 3:07 am
kinda miss the old loud gilbert. but this is funny to me somehow

  • Larsylad Posted: Nov.3 at 3:14 am
Keep doin’ your thing Gil. He ain’t depressed or sad, it’s got something to do with the media for sure.

  • Mendel Posted: Nov.3 at 9:53 am
I wonder how long he can keep this up. It seems hard and you can see him kind of crack at times and then pulls him self back.

  • B1DK Posted: Nov.3 at 10:50 am
Well, nothing funny about this. Wonder if he’s just making it up (he always has been a master of creating his own image)or if he has just turned into a douchebag. Still love his game though, he’s better than ever right now.

    Did somebody die?

  • Chukaz Posted: Nov.3 at 12:39 pm
wtf is wrong wit this dude? the way he’s gone all weird and $hit reminds me of kanye going all weird and $hit

  • tealish Posted: Nov.3 at 2:00 pm
My hypothesis (with 95% confidence): This is the same attention-seeking Gilbert as always. He did it before with wackiness, and now he’s doing it with his new schtick. Nothing fundamentally new. Just a different approach. You think he doesn’t know that this generates more attention than if he’d just answer questions normally (like most guys in the L)? Of course he knows it. This is a new ploy. He’s a quirky guy. He enjoys to play different roles. Now he’s playing this. Again, nothing really ‘new’.

  • jay Posted: Nov.3 at 7:22 pm
he’s pullin a joaquin Phoenix on all of us! You watch!

  • Hooman Posted: Nov.3 at 7:37 pm
He was supposedly not talking to media before. He has some issues obviously.

  • dmonz Posted: Nov.3 at 8:45 pm
agent 0 is on stealth mode brothers..

  • Simmy Sosa Posted: Nov.4 at 3:05 am
I understand he wants to tone down the antics and not “write the story” for the media, but this is ridiculous. He needs to listen to a pro like A-Rod who is notorious for talking without actually saying anything. Throw out a cliche every once in a while, “there’s no “I” in team” or “we’re just taking it one game at a time”. Dude sounds like he just got punked in every interview.

  • Fat Lever Posted: Nov.4 at 10:46 am
A-ROD?????? HAHAHAHAHA, please, if anyone wants to model themselves after that clown, in any aspect, then they have major problems. A-Rod has 2 paintings of himself in the image of a centaur in his house. This is not what normal, socially-functioning people do. Gil is letting his play do the talking, and so far the talking is good.
