The Roots
“I was on Cecil B…Broad Street, Master…North Philly, South Philly…23rd … Tasker…”
Jay Electronica—”Exhibit C”
I was born in West Philadelphia, and while I lived in NYC for a spell, Philly is my home. In my youth I grew up with Kobe Bean, and I emulated Aaron McKie, and Eddie Jones…so naturally after high school, I enrolled at Temple University.
My first published work was a SLAM/PUNKS article on Maureece Rice in ’03…and I’ve been covering athletes since. My maturation as a journalist has led me toward the NBA…writing features, and short stories, however I reside in a preverbal hoops hotbed, so when the opportunity arises to cover an up and coming talent, I do so without hesitation.
Enter Tony Chennault…a senior at St. John Neumann-Goretti and recent recipient of the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year honors. He’s ACC bound, so before he graduates and begins to make a name for himself at Wake Forest, I wanted to get an interview, and talk about how it all began at his home court, Fisher Park. Enjoy.
