For Old Time’s Sake: Killa Crossover

Anybody over 20 should remember this epic shake-n-bake. AI’s crossover in general, not just on MJ, was perhaps the most famous signature move of the late 90′s. Boy was fast as lightning. See for yourself (1 more time).

I remember seeing that and feeling so sorry for Micahel Jordan. Just kidding.

  • The Philosopher

Allen Iverson is the greatest of all times off the dribble.

  • http://slamonline.com mike

    Iverson – 0 rings, Michael – 6 rings

  • unrel

of all time?.. look up some Run TMC highlights and keep your eyes locked on timmy.. not saying he’s the GOAT.. but dude was nice.. let’s not hand out that trophy just yet PHIL.. this crossover was great because it was on MJ.. but i’d argue that J.Will’s on the Glove was just as epic..

  • cp3fan

    @mike
who cares? this is about the move, not their careers. AI’s was epic because he knew exactly what he was doing and who it was he was doing it to.

  • unrel

^if not better.. GP got rocked to sleep.. and got blown by.. MJ just backed up and gave space for a jumper..

  • unrel

i was using the “^” to my own comment.. not cp3′s..

  • Overtime

I am glad SLAM has listened to my plea of a ‘For Old time’s sake’ a day

  • The Philosopher

    @unrel:
As far as the crossover is concerned, it’s debatable who’s is better/best. At one time Tim Hardaway’s crossover was the most copied move in Basketball History.
But, as far as pure “off the dribble” game, Iverson bar none in League History.

    @Overtime, we’re all glad.

can you really call it a great crossover if he carried the sh!t out of the ball?

  • kh

I remember recording that cross over on my VCR for my homemade AI mixtape! I still have it. I loved Iverson, so naturally that move has been etched in my NBA memories for life. Carry or not that crossover was lethal and changed the face of the game as we know it. Thanks for diggin in the crates SLAM, keep em coming

  • Bryan

Biggest carry ever…he had it cupped in his arm shuffled his feet did a little shake then dribbled. any one can do that…Iverson is great but this is a huge carry

  • Kadavour

Again with the short memories. 1) The U-Tep 2 Step is the most legit version of the crossover since one doesn’t need to carry the ball. 2) Before they made AI’s egregious variation illegal, STEVE FRANCIS had the most devastating crossover. 3) youtube search: kblaze fukfundamentals. Best crossover mix on the net. The best handles in the league today go to Jamal Crawford or Deron Williams, I can’t decide.

dma must be blind, you can clearly see in the first angle, his hand is on top and side of the ball, its the hesitation that makes it look like he carried, ai has carried many times in his career, just like everyone else, but this wasnt one of them.

  • http://slamonline.com JL

wow that’s a quick release. i miss the timmy hardaway crossovers… that was dope

  • unrel

@PHIL.. i hear what you’re saying about the crossover vs off the dribble.. AI is one of the best at both, actually.. not sure if i’d put him as the best in league history without really thinking about it.. but i feel where you’re coming from..

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

Tim Hardaway’s crossover > AI’s crossover all day

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty

I hate hearing this play referred to as “Iverson breaking Jordans ankles”, it was a great cross, but he didnt stumble in the least it just looked bad cus he reached with his left, he even had a decent contest on the shot. I’d put AI putting Antonio Danials on his a$$ X 2 in the top spot.

  • http://screwjams.tumblr.com cramzy

why we gotta came on here and ish on this classic moment? Can we just enjoy? I mean really

  • http://screwjams.tumblr.com cramzy

    ^*come…lol

  • JTaylor21

You jordan fans are always catching feelings about anything that shows MJ in a bad situation. By the way that would have never happend to Pippen, just saying.

  • jay

Ya need to stop hatin on my boi AI im a big time bulls fan but i luv AI as well dis is a great for old times slam thanx for bringin back some good memories back b4 lebron n co. came along

  • CARTEL

It was that exact play that made A.I. my favorite ballplayer in the world!!!!

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty

This sh!t is pathetic, theres now about 10 players(kobe lebron iverson mj ect…) who cant be mentioned in a negative or positive way, because there will be 20 people waiting to call you a d!ck rider, or a hater, regardless of if what u said is true or not.

  • Stillballin

I don’t know anybody who has any highlights play agains Jordan.. Ai is the only one.. Every kids in the playground tried that crossover..don’t hate!!

  • http://Yahoo Shanoooooooo

Who cares if he carried. It was a no call. Lebron travels all day but since there is no call they become highlites like this for us to enjoy !

  • http://Yahoo Shanoooooooo

    Highlight !!!

  • downtownbrownclown

to all jordan lovers, how about “david vaughn” blocking MJ on his way to the rim, and got turned down with the ball on his way down. hahahahaha! classic jordan humiliation… ;P

  • unrel

@Stillballin… John Starks has a poster with jordan in it..

  • Scottie Pimpin

NBA, where traveling happens. thats a damn carry man.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Some people just don’t like Iverson. Damn shame.

  • cp3fan

The league banned the move so AI created another crossover that was lethal too. The league had a problem with everything AI did even while it put people in seats and money in people’s pockets. And by the way, he never cupped the ball, his hand was always on the side. So not a carry. If you want to see someone carry, watch LeBron. But he’s everyone’s “King” so no one wants to admit that he is flawed.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

How would have thought that 13 years later this same guy would be struggling to get on a NBA team.

  • rainman10

@JTaylor—That would never happen to Pippen? Ask Kobe.

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

13 years in the league is a long time pardeep

  • george w. buckets

for old time’s sake > polladaday

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

Great crossover on a great player. The fact it was on Jordan makes it that much better. Clearly for this ONE play AI bested Jordan. The size, the speed the attitude all made me an AI fan and this single play speaks volumes. Is AI anywhere near as good as Jordan – absolutely not! But for this one moment in time his signature crossover shined over Jordan.

  • JTaylor21

rainman kobe made pippen knees wobble wobble like them 504 boys? where they do that at

  • rob

Don’t like AI and love MJ but that crossover was just incredible.

  • nastierthanu

This is nice but untrue. The best crossover of all time was nate robinson on jose caulderon at the garden. He put jose flat on his butt. Utube it

  • frmkt

Too bad he didn’t like to practice!

  • http://Www.lkz.cn Darksaber

UTEP two step, Timmah Hardaway. That.is.all.

  • aidee333

    ai is the best ever………….

  • snasty10

brings a tear to my eye, seriously, he was my hero. I had at least 200 iverson pics over my room. I hope he comes back and goes out in a good way.

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

That wasn’t that great a crossover, the ankle breakage was nowhere near as severe as what you see these days. All he did was step back, he didn’t even get by him and Jordan still recovered to contest the shot. If it weren’t on Jordan this move wouldn’t be remembered.

  • bababooey

That’s a carry – he cradles the ball in his left hand/wrist which is why the ball hesitates at the peak of the dribble right before he makes the crossover move-doesn’t matter if the hand is on the side of the ball. I give AI credit, though – he does it so fast, that it looks legal in realtime.

  • boggs

anyone who thinks AI carried the ball is an idiot! he didn’t carry the ball, dumbass! he has huge hands that he palmed the ball in 90 degree angle! that ain’t no carry! geez…

  • markymark

    GOAT handles…

    fave player of all time.

  • jbizz

anybody remember what ai did to the laker guards in the finals?
