For Old Time’s Sake: Make it Reign

EMPHATIC, WITH AUTHORITY, BEAST…. those are just a few of the things that come to mind when thinking of Shawn Kemp (early 90s Shawn Kemp). Dude was a straight RIM ROCKER. Remember what he did to Alton Lister?!?! I think I used to check under my bed for the Reign Man when I was a kid, not the Boogie Man. Check out his top 10 below.

I love how Gatling and him shake hands after he throws one down on him!
    Brilliant!

  • uhmairshyne

shawn kemp and the glove formed the best 2 man squad the 90s saw besides the dunks look at the block shots or how he the and the glove drove MJ mad imagine if they had real 3rd option and just like anyone who goes to the cavs he went down…(the drugs didnt help either)

I remember people somehow compared Blake Griffin as a similar player as Kemp. Well damn, hopefully.

  • S_kemp

“He punched that ticket and went on his way!” how cool is that hair,,,the guy is the greatest dunker ever and everyone who’s hating is either a 20 year old LeBron drone who dont know sh^t or Alton Lister…

  • Purple & Gold

Amar’e Stoudemere dunks today look a lot like Shawn Kemp’s dunks back in the day. To bad dude ate himself out of the league and drugs got to him.

@Logues: NBA Superstars 3!! Forgot about that! Who else was in that video? Dan Majerle, right? And Mark Price? Wasn’t there a Celine Dion song in that video for some reason? Thanks for evoking those fun memories. Speaking of fun memories, how ’bout Kemp pointing at Lister after the dunk?! Classic!

Nasty. Take note that all those dunks were on defenders 6-10 or taller with only 1 exception Kenny Walker at 6-9. If that fool was able to palm the ball…

KEMP IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE PLAYER!!!

As much as he was done on the blazers me and my buddies still rooted for him. And he developed a nice jumper so no he wasn’t all dunks. Damn I now realize how lucky I was to see him 4x a year living in Portland now.

somewhere a young buck is like who are the sonics.

My favorite game dunker ever…some of his game dunks could be in a dunk contest!

  • JTaylor21

@Slam please do one on Pippen and the human highlight film (josh smith who). Gracias

    F*CK YES!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

kh you are being ridiculous. Kemp wasn’t a good player because he was an incredible dunker? So I guess Dominique Wilkins was nothing? Kemp was much more than just a dunker, and in case you haven’t noticed, it takes SKILL to be able to dunk on people in traffic. This isn’t a dunk contest with gimmicks–these are plays that require body control and power. If you don’t appreciate these you might prefer the NCAA.

Those spin moves coupled with the two foot take off are…you just don’t see that kind of presence downlow with that kind of explosion.

We NEED one of olajuwon destroying david robinson. The Dream was so awesome that the only thing he didn’t do (i thing) to san antonio was piss in their river (he might have, i wouldn’t be shocked if he did)

Ha! Relating Kemp to Howard is a serious disservice to Kemp. Get real, you bonehead.

  • pennydunk_1

I appreciate the greatness that Malone or Duncan embody. That said, it’s for players like Kemp that I will always like to watch basketball

  • rayray

I run around with 40′s like my ni99a Shawn Kemp, and I’m out ** J Ro – Tha Liks

  • JoeMaMa

Kemp and Payton were the best young duo of the early/mid 90s. Winning games, alley oops, playing with attitude, and bringing the city of Seattle to a frenzy. If you don’t like Kemp, you must not enjoy basketball. SLAM once wrote an article about his workouts, as part of a biggest story, when he was still going hard, and it inspired me to hit the gym in the summer. Kemp is the MAN!

  • rikson

the FAT MAN would be correct…

  • JoeMaMa

Okay, Kemp WAS the MAN. I’m talking Sonics, not Cavs/Magic.

  • monkeyball

@JoeMaMa: Jordan and Pippen were the best duo of the early/mid 90′s.

  • rikson

Dont forget people like pierce, who was their topscorer when they made it to the finals in 92. Sam Perkins, Nate McMillan, McKey… Im not saying that Payton and Kemp werent good (bc obviously they destroyed teams), but the Sonics had a pretty good team that time. PS: I will never understand how a player like McKey could be sooo underrated throughout his career?

  • kh

You’re right Teddy Bear I don’t think Dominique was that great either. Go back to Deering High running with the Tornadoes. I think Julie Connor was better than Kemp.

  • pennydunk_1

    @rikson McKey was solid alright

  • http://WWW.SLAMONLINE.COM wayno

How was #7 not traveling? He picked his dribble up at the 3pt line in a way that would make the Crab Dribble roll over in it’s grave.

  • Aristotle

Shawn Kemp *sigh* the reason I first picked up a basketball :D

  • rikson

correction: conference finals in 92… my bad!

  • rikson

@penny: He was also great with the 76ers

  • t2jax

The Rattlin’ Gatlin and the Lister Blister lol!!! Ah Kemp, you had such potential *smh*

  • t2jax

kh, dominique wasn’t that good? what a troll u r! stop watching basketball immediately, because u don’t understand it. just stop.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Uncle05Sam Earl

The one over Laimbeer (34was good too, Bill really deserved that one!

  • B1DK

As great as the dunks are, the dance moves he pulls after them are even better.
Im a huge Suns fan, and Amar’e can’t touch the things Kemp did in his prime.
