For Old Time’s Sake: Mr. Franchise

Steve Francis had an uncanny ability to make his defenders look silly. It was almost like he was toying with them, trying to embarrass them on a nightly basis. I think his handles are up there with AI and his vertical was off the charts. He was a beast at Maryland and did his thing in the league until injuries got the best of him. Check out this Top 10 mix.

WOW, weird timing. I was watching videos of him all this morning. But can anyone get me a link to the day he was drafted by the Vancouver Grizzlies? That was some funny sh1t!!!

  • Bruno

the face he put when david stern called his name was priceless

  • nastierthanu4

#4 is absolutely ridiculous. I like some cat at the top of the key talking point as if he should be doing something else besides playing an impromptu point of 21, but uh that cat couldn’t guard him.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

Number one was weak. Number four was clearly better…

I miss this dude. He should’ve continued playing!

  • WangChung

One of my all-time favs. This guy was a walking ESPN Top10 Highlight Reel. Stevie and T-Mac should join up somewhere and try to recapture some of that old glory.

  • adam warren

    number 2 is a sick poster….siiiiick

See people overrated players now in the NBA, Stevie Franchise was Derrick Rose on steroids and had Chris Paul passing ability with Vince Carter ups. H was the Franchise for a while, sad injuries ruined his career. I remember him and Mobley going against my Lakers and him killing who ever when ever. BOOK IT!!

  • Scottie Pimpin

    the original d rose indeed

  • http://bulls.com airs

steve francis was an undisciplined derrick rose.

  • http://bulls.com airs

    still sick nontheless

  • http://bulls.com airs

  • Bruno

i’d pick derrick rose over francis anyday

  • http://slamonline.com Saviour

last 4 were illegally insane, what a player he was….shame.

  • Omnixyience

is it just me or the music
    just ruined the video?!

  • kh

I enjoyed watching him play but airs is right, he wasn’t there mentally. A little to self-absorbed. Still fun to watch though!
Who did he abuse in #4? Was that Troy Hudson? I can’t really make out the name.

  • sample

is that a keith closs sighting?

  • spit hot fiyah

that was hudson, and yes, keith closs

  • L

Number 4 is sick. And 1 style style..L

  • logues

number 5 was sick, he jumped from the dotted line! 4 was nice too, i thought it was an all star game at first the way he was just playin with that dude.

  • Reflex

    number 8…damn

  • JTaylor21

I thought that the SEED couldn’t get any dumber with his comments but he has outdumbed himself this time. This buffon said that francis was drose on steriods, had CP3 passing ability and VC hops talk about being the ultimate created player in NBA2k. Thats greatest point guard of all time material there. You must not have seen DRose hightlights in highschool. Francis is no where close to the passer the CP is, even Starbury was a better passer than francis was and vince carter jumped over a 7’2 human being when francis couldn’t even dream about that. Why don’t you stick to your kobe worshipping where ur aDICKtion to the mamba blinds you and leave talking about other players to people who know what the hell they’re talking bout.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

the top four are cosmic, wow. 4 is too funny. he was incredibly talented. and uh, drose is not on his level, yet anyways. he is def no where near the scorer stevie was. damn, he was a beast

  • http://lakers.com stu

somewhere, cuttino mobley is watching this, crying.

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

i’ll prolly get murdered for this, but does his athleticism remind anyone else of jordan? the leans in the dunks, the ability to improvise in the air? #3 was somewhat reminiscent of jordan on the knicks + ewing

  • Omar

The Seed is out of his never-existed mind for that one.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Drose can’t touch what Francis did some years in the league yet. Dude don’t be a prisoner of the moment. CP3 passing ablitites is overrated. CP3 is a playmaker, he does what ever, score, pass, rebound. That’s what Franchise, did he was top 10 in the league man for a while. Francis could jump out the gym, he was in slam dunk contest and had many high light dunks. Francis was only 6 foot 2, Dude VC is 6 foot 7. You forget Francis had a high vertical. Also why you always trying to add some nonsense man, You playing yourself up here, if you think Drose is a better player than the Franchise in his second year, you the are the buffon. Also stop Kobe hating cat, your team who ever they are might doing some in the future. Who is your favorite player then cat. You really sound like an idiot on these boards, chill and analyze before making statements that make us all feel dumber for reading them. I feel dumber for responding to your outlandish statements. BOOK IT!!!

  • will

slam should make their posters one side present nba and the other a ‘for old times sake’ side. and i agree with davidR, he does lean into his dunks like jordan e.g #5

  • will

slam should make their posters one side for present nba and the other side for the past, and i agree with davidR, he does lean into his dunks like jordan like in #5

  • http://slamonline.com Ben Osborne

@will: We do old-school posters occasionally, including pretty much every champs cover (newest one on sale now).

  • will

oh nice, im in australia so i haven’t even got the jordan issue yet!

  • jcoo

too bad JVG had to cover up a true star.. the FRANCHISE was killin it in houston

  • logues

franchise, steph, young shaq, ai, tmac,.. damn i miss early 00′s

  • arje828

I’m a huge D.Rose fan. But D. Rose over Francis? Be serious. Francis was impossible to guard 1 on 1. His jump shot was clearly better and extended to 3 point range. I know D. Rose has ups but not like Francis. Let’s take Francis in his 2nd year and put him head to head with Rose in his 2nd year. D. Rose would get dominated. Francis was beyond a point. He was going head to head with the likes of Vince & Kobe in their respective primes. D. Rose isn’t there. He’ll have a better career but he’ll never be a better player.

    ^the seed..
u did nothing but help solidify JTaylor21 in his arguement of not knowing what your talking bout.. and for the record francis is 6’3″ and vince is 6’6″

  • http://bedotwater.bandcamp.com BE.water

sorry arje, but Derrick Rose definitely has as much bounce as stevie.
