For Old Time’s Sake: My cousin Vince is nice. I’m nice too.

TMac may have had his best stats on the MAGIC when he wasn’t sharing a team with his cousin, but straight out of high school this boy was unstoppable. Had the handles of a PG, the length of a PF, and the jumper of a SG which gave him free reign on the basketball court. You don’t respect his J, you pay for it… you press him, you pay for it. The man scored 13 points in 35 seconds… against the Spurs….against Bruce Bowen! He could have been shooting from the Astrodome and it would have gone in. Not much you can do when someone is in the zone like that. Yeah, TMac ain’t the same but let’s appreciate what he gave us once upon a time.

Yepp, back then he was pretty unstoppable. Don’t know how he could never get passed the first round though.

  • MJama

If only he swallowed his ego and stayed in Toronto with Vince… They could have been the new Jordan and Pippen of the 2000 generation. Ah well, he was fun to watch nonetheless.

***reposted from a McGrady-to-Bulls post earlier in the week*** Man, people forget, but pre-Lebron there was a smattering of “whose better, Kobe or T-Mac” discussions going on. Of course, T-Mac never getting out of the first round kind of killed the argument before it even could really start, but he was straight sick-o nonetheless. I always though McGrady was Scottie Pippen v. 2.0. Unfortunately v. 2.0 included software that apparently included reoccurring injuries, a lack of defensive intensity even remotely approaching the original version, and a general disinterest in busting ones ass. So while the newer version may have looked more aesthetically pleasing at times, it fell fall, fall short of the original, unfortunately. Unfulfilled potential, thy name is Tracy McGrady.

  • jufu

you kno i always wondered what wouldve happened if toronto had tried harder to keep hold of him and then acquired bosh…superteam?

  • The D Train

i can’t even watch these. It just breaks my heart…WHY NBA GODS?!! WHY?!!!

  • JTaylor21

That 13 in 35 seconds was the best scoring display I’ve ever seen better than 81 and 62/3. I’m just saying though.

  • duane moore

back when everyone debated whether kobe or tmac was the best, very good times, i miss those days

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

@JTaylor21…I know you hate Kobe but nothing was more impressive than the 81. Man do I miss the old T-Mac. That guy gave everyone hell.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

I remember McGrady the most for being up 3-1 on the Pistons then talking smack and losing the series. McGrady and Vince got to be cousins, because they have wasted their talent and McGrady will be remember for 13 points in 35 seconds and never winning a 1st round series and that is it. Vince will be remember for being soft, going to UNC graduation before playoff game and his All Star game dunks and thats it. BOOK IT!!!

  • truthteller

T-Mac should have stayed in Toronto with Vince. I don’t get why he left. he left Toronto to play in Orlando and at the time Grant Hill who was in his prime was leaving detroit to orlando to play with him. SO, he left Toronto to become his own man and play with another mega superstar? Should have stayed.

  • http://www.shawnkemp.com brotherwithwisdom

really fun to watch. He should haved stayed in toronto and I just feel bad he never even made it past the first round.

  • Vince5

I wonder what would have happened if the Raptors would have kept him at the place of VC. The Raptors history would have been a whole lot different.

  • logues

i remember watching that game live, and it was unbelievable watching as it actually happened. i dont even know why i was still watching the game was pretty much over, and i hate watching the spurs, but im glad i didnt change the channel. i just sat there for like ten mins in disbelief. just awesome

  • http://www.springbored.net letsmotor

T-Mac was nice. i understand why people would question a lot of things about him, but let’s face it, the guy could play. great scorer, excellent play-maker. he’s proven to be a great guy too–anyone read that article a few months ago about all his humanitarian efforts in Sudan?

  • http://google c_cantrell

man that 13 in 35 was super impressive.. the best scoring i have ever seen aside from kobes 81.. tmac was a beast man.. absolute beast

  • http://www.springbored.net letsmotor

also, i think i’ve gotta find some way to end my posts that will make them more convincing. i’m thinking maybe BET ON IT!!! or COUNT ON IT!!!! What do you guys think?

  • rich

    degree>playoff game with his knees

  • Overtime

Has there been anyone else who’s played in as many round 1 Game 7′s?

  • Lawrence

i miss TMAC TIME moments…especially when he brings the entire team on his shoulder…if he’s in the zone, it’s over…but that was before.i mean before…

  • Ronald

I always believed that T-Mac’s career was a “What if Pippen wasn’t drafted by the Bulls” simulation.

  • The D Train

@letsmotor: what about CHOKE ON IT!!!

  • http://www,myczechrepublic.com SAB

Overtime – i doubt he’s played in many, he’s been dead for the last few years and they only recently changed it to 7-game series…
The Seed, apart from stating the obvious a lot, you missed the backboard-to-yourself trick at All-Star. people will remember that, i reckon

  • http://www,myczechrepublic.com SAB

i love Marv’s call, “for the win?!?”

  • james

TMAC!!!! mayn i remember this dude was sooo good. n he was bout it bout it on the court he was always tryna square up n fight somebody

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com CHI-TOWN SAID IT..

never could get out of that 1st round

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance

@SAB Vinces in the all-star game off the backboard dunk was better. But TMAC did it in an actual game so that trumps everything. TMAC reminds me of a taller Penny, about 4 years of greatness and a lot of injuires thereafter.

My favorite part of the vid tho was the two-hand mush to Eric Snows grill. i wanna do that everytime i see Snow on NBATV.

  • http://Twitter.com/darrellma Dma

Nothing good comes out of Toronto. Even Damon their first pick defected and all the way to bosh. What’s in the water up north?

  • Aaron

    These videos make me malade.

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance

IMO TMACs 13 in 35 was way more clutch and exciting than Kobes 81. The Raps weren’t even trying to defend him.

That 3 TMAC hit at the end, going to his left, stopping on a dime with a hand in his face… amazing.

  • Overtime

@SAB, I can think of three off top of my head already

  • http://Egotastic.com Michael

Kobe scoring 55 in one half))) 13 in 35 seconds. F**k 81 in a game 55 in one half is stupid. Thats kareems career high. Lebrons is 56.

  • http://Myspace Shanoooooo

    CoSign Seed:%

I can’t even understand how this is even an argument. Kobe’s 81 was way more impressive.
Then Marv calls Tmacs 2nd three pointer at 35secs left in the game. He actully scored 10 points and a game winner but Marv Albert hyped it up and it stuck.

  • Scottie Pimpin

could’ve been the next scottie pimpin…….

  • truthteller

How does Kobe end up in every post we have here even when it has nothing to do with him? Kobe hands down is the most polarizing NBA player EVER!!! Maybe even in sports!!! Damn!!!!!!!!

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

Mac just hung up there in the first vid. His face afterward was priceless.

  • Sunny Wiims

Good stuff slam!you guys just reminded how gud he was….ppl only judge on “what have u done lately?” when we need to look at what he has done first player to throw a alley oop to himself in a allstar game…Damn injuries!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yawn

The real what if is what would have happened if he would’ve worked out with Tim Grover when he was younger? His first trainer messed up his body.

  • http://google c_cantrell

    ^yawn..
can u even solidify wat your saying?

  • thalilbigkahuna

I remember having serious discussions about wether or not T-Mac was the best player in the league. That sucks that his career turned out the way it did.

  • thalilbigkahuna

    *whether

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

The Swag, the ability this just breaks my heart man… he could have been one of the greatest ever.

  • Hank

simple as this, Tracy McGrady will go down as arguably one of the best players of this decade, to be honest if T-Mac had what Kobe had hed prolly be a NBA Champion right now. He was a BEAST! Im not knocking Kobe, but i really think people forget how amazing T-Mac was. If i could compare him to any hall of famer it would have to be Dominique Wilkins or George Gervin cuz of the fact they always played 2nd fiddle to another superstar. U give the ice man or nique a team like, jordan, dr.j, bird or magic had and they do the same thing they did, WIN! i really do believe T-Mac deserves to be a hall of famer not too many were able to do what he did, how many people can we say truly embarrassed Kobe, on a daily basis. If u listen to the young nba players comin in to the league now theyll all say T-Mac was my fav. player not kobe but t-mac. #imjustsayin lol

  • J

He was my fav player when i was a kid

  • hammer

I remember watching this game live w/a few friends. We were just kickin back bs around and 4 the most part ignoring the game cuz it was boring and it looked like the spurs had it. Then those last 35 seconds..wow! We were all like there’s no way the spurs r gonna cough this up right? We just couldn’t believe it. Tmac went tmac on em! Tmac was un animal(an animal)!..its sad 2 c how injuries can kill a great players career very quickly and no compassion whatsoever

  • Overtime

Slam, get some class and give a shout out to Yinka Dare, as you keep using the mixes

  • http://www.twitter.com/gerardhimself Gerard Himself

with all due respect to T-Mac, but comparing him with Pippen is plain out wrong. McGrady was nowhere near the defensive player that Pippen was.

  • Robb

13 points in 35 seconds. It was unreal. I still remember when I watched that game. Beyond awesome. What a player he was.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Favourite player for like 5 years.
He was *thisclose* to Bryant skill/scoring/ability wise from 2000-4 ish. Then injuries and poor teams began to take a tole on his body.

  • unrel

i always hated on tmac.. because his defense was suspect.. but on the offensive end.. he’san F’n beast..
