For Old Time’s Sake: Starbury

Before the benching, the crying, the RnB…before ALL THE DRAMA, Stephon Marbury was an assassin on the court. Drafted by Milwaukee and promptly traded to the T-Wolves for Ray Allen, Steph quickly rose to super-stardom alongside KG as they formed one of the most dynamic duos of the late 90s. Steph, AI, Ray Allen, Kobe, among others… what a draft class. Steph’s stops in Phoenix and Jersey were successful and we all know about NY. Let’s appreciate what he contributed.

awesome. unfortunately, younger fans have come to know him for eating vaseline and getting a star tattooed on his head, but he really was a top notch PG at one point.

    So skilled but the ego.

  • Shanoooooo Posted: Jul.24 at 11:30 am
I like that it was a mix and not a top 10 plays.
Now can i get a Steve Smith Mix ??? People just know him from NBA tv but Steve was great. What you know about it ???

Love the Guerrila Black song (“Trixx”) from NBA Street Vol. 3

  • dirty frank Posted: Jul.24 at 12:06 pm
Great moments. I remember the good times. Not a fan of the mix.

If the NBA hadnt put n a salary cap he wouldve stayed in MIN. Also he messed up his career tryin 2 bring winning back to his hometown

  • Overtime Posted: Jul.24 at 1:12 pm
He even had a good season in New York

  • Clipperfan Posted: Jul.24 at 1:34 pm

    Give me some Glen Rice

  • dma Posted: Jul.24 at 3:33 pm
I can’t help but think of Derrick Rose. Sorry.

  • SpaceJam Posted: Jul.24 at 3:36 pm
This is just his section from anklebreakers street series. He was raw though, and should’ve stayed in Minesota.

That trick on Vlade… CLASSIC. Going to miss you Starbury, goodluck in China!

  • kousinkar Posted: Jul.24 at 3:41 pm
Pure jump-shots from halfcourt. Look at the elevation. Unreal.

  • jedi420 Posted: Jul.24 at 4:40 pm
If only he stayed in Minny with KG..

  • Martey Posted: Jul.24 at 5:43 pm
I remember how he dominated at Georgia Tech. Same time AI was running things with the Hoyas and Camby had the refuse to lose team out in Umass. Although he was exciting with KG, his best times were with the Suns and the Nets, as far as the peak of his game. He actually developped a finger roll when he was with Phoenix. Nasty!

  • MikeC. Posted: Jul.24 at 6:10 pm
I remember actually being excited when he got traded to the Knicks. Too bad.

  • MikeC. Posted: Jul.24 at 6:16 pm
Can we get a Patrick Ewing retrospective? He got dunked on a lot because he was always coming over to protect the rim. He also had a boatload of huge rejections and some pretty powerful posterizations of his own. Show P-Ew some love SLAM!!!

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Jul.24 at 7:12 pm
How about some Starbury TV for oldtime sake?

  • pdoubleog Posted: Jul.24 at 8:14 pm

  • guytoofly Posted: Jul.24 at 11:55 pm
i’m patiently waiting for a john starks and allan houston mixtape to show, where’s the love for new york?

  • Hursty Posted: Jul.25 at 12:21 am
“The Marbury man hops inside for two more!”

The alley-oop was 2.41 is still the most ridiculous finish I’ve ever seen. The commentators are like “whaaaaat, in the world was THAT Steph?!” LOL

  • tealish Posted: Jul.25 at 12:31 am
1st, lol @ old Vlade and young Yao.
