For Old Time’s Sake: Human Highlight Film

Niiiiique. Former SLAM Dunk Champion (beating MJ) and teammate of Mr. Spud Webb (yes, that’s a big deal), Nique averaged over 30 points a game in the 85-86 season and was a 9-time NBA All Star. While an NBA title was never accomplished, a side effect of playing in the Jordan Era (ask Stockton and Malone), Nique was inducted into the HOF in 2006.  He is one of 6 players in NBA history to average more than 25 points per game for 10 consecutive seasons. We all know he is one of the greatest dunkers of all time. Check out his top plays below.

    Best dunker ever

  • pennydunk_1

and tom heinsohn can’t keep his mouth shut on No 2

  • Andre

Please, someone tell me what lead-foot Bird was thinking?

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

that boof on larry legend was sick nasty. I would not wish that kind of misfortune on my worst enemy.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

He has my vote for best dunker. He could do finesse dunks or he could posterize you. Amazing, he was..

  • Overtime

Those 3 on Boston were just ridicolous.
And 25 ppg for ten straight years is just unbelievable

  • Aaron

Bird & Parrish on this reel…

  • kwame

    damn larry bird…got yoked on

  • Overtime

shame we couldnt get a vid of Bird vs Wilkins shootout

  • Overtime

Also, in number 4, does Bird get hit in the head with the ball? If so, im surprised he managed to get back up

  • Robb

Awesome powerful dunker, but his game was more than that, a lot more. The Bird vs Nique shootout was legendary. We should have the video posted here. Watching him dunk doesn’t make him justice, he had more game than that. The most underrated player ever.

  • JD

Larry got so pissed from being dunked on that he had to go ahead and won the chips.

  • http://slamonline.com JL

huge hops. amazing athleticism and skill. although this real was all dunks. he’s also one of those every 25 year athletes. who double clutches on dunks just cuz they can anymore?

  • JTaylor21

NO slam, the best dunker of all-time no competition. Only if he was afforded the same luxuries aka teammates that bird/magic/jordan were given he would’ve won as many chips as those guys. Also noticed bird’s non defensive a**, dude couldn’t stop a dead man from scoring.

  • JTaylor21

Better player than Larry Bird. Any day of the week give me Nique over Legend.

  • larrylegend

    @JTaylor21: LMAO
dunking on the celtics is nice, winning against them is even nicer….
    sick mix!

  • The Fresh Prince of Nsam

And I think he was even a better player than dunker. Like I remember he always follows his shot like on one of the dunks on the Cs. Great underrated player.

  • The Philosopher

Vince Carter is the greatest dunker in NBA History.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

As good and exciting as people acknowledge he was, he’s still under-rated. Too bad he didn’t have a better supporting cast around him.

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

Man, I can’t understand why dudes would even try to block Nique’s dunks. He was so strong and powerful, it’s like asking to be posterized.

  • Martey

If Dominique had won one ring, just one, he would have been in constant discussion for top 5 or 6 of all time. When someone does something real good, like dunk, casual observers only see that, but Nique had an all around game, the jumper was deadly, he had spin moves, pump fakes. Actually the Hawks weren’t that bad, they had Doc Rivers, Spud, Kevin Willis and an aging Moses Malone but Nique never had that sidekick or complementary player you need. That Bird, Jordan, Magic trifecta definitely killed the chance of many players to be considered immortals (Nique, Malone, Ewing, Barkley, Drexler almost…) But Nique was the truth, even without the dunks. Anybody remembers he use to be on that Afro Sheen S Curl box????

  • Martey

And while we’re at it, can anybody find an old commercial with Nique, Olajuwon and Zeke?? I think it was for Orange Crush. It’s the same one Dwight Howard, Lebron and Larry Legend bit off last year

  • Dirtybird
  • The Philosopher

    @Martey:
    I remember.
It was the DUKE S Curl box.

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com CHI-TOWN SAID IT..

DAMN HE DUNKED HARD EVERYTIME HE WENT UP!! SLAM YOUR NEXT FOR OLDTIME SAKES SHOULD BE ISIAH THOMAS JS

  • rich

nah make it david wesleys worst missed layup ever

  • http://www.springbored.net letsmotor

@JTaylor21: i’m not saying Bird was a great defender, but he was far from a defensive liability. sure, Nique posterized him pretty good, but it’s not like Bird was playing lazy defense. and Nique over Bird? Nique was a great scorer and everything, but man, look at Bird’s stats. he was a better passer and rebounder than Nique. obviously, he won more than Nique also, and while some of that is due to Bird’s great teammates, you also have to recognize that Bird made everyone around him better.

  • JTaylor21

What the hell is Dumb Heinson talking bout? Who talks about boxing out after a great dunk like that.

  • http://www.yougotdunkedon.com LilKDub503

What the…how the…damn, I just don’t know what to say. Screw a Chuck Norris, gimme this guy. I felt some of those dunks myself. He just surprised the hell out of me 20 years later.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

What happened to Bird and Parish was just rude and unreasonable.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

And Nique is the best “two-footed” dunker of all-time. He never really dunked off one leg, which makes it hard to call him the best ever.

  • total scrotal implosion

Nique, kemp and amare playing horse, only dunks, with zo and deke taking turns trying to block.

  • http://slamonline.com Dave.

    > Who talks about boxing out after a great dunk like that. <
    Your coach. A lot.

  • http://www.clutchfans.com/ Blue

The great players have most of their highlights against quality teams…loving the “For Old Time’s Sake” piece, fellas!

  • Martey

@ DirtyBird: Good lookin out homie
@ The Philospher: I stand corrected. I thought I was the only one that saw that

  • j.r #36

Thank You SLAM ,,awesome ,,more old school stuff please

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Number 6 is so under-rated. That takes more “pure” athleticism than several of the ones ranked higher than it.

  • truthteller

Nique is among the top 3 dunkers of ALL time! Hands down!

  • logues

no. 9 was nice, the way he moved his body sideways and double pumped

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

Dominique is a great dunker… but i dont think u can call anyone the greatest dunker ever other than Vince… its really no contest

  • Kadavour

thank you meloman! fack, ppl really let this nostalgia bs get to their heads. NO ONE ever in the HISTORY of basketball to date, can lay claim to being a better dunker than Vince Carter. Not in-game, not in-competition, not in your backyard. That is the law.

  • mj23

Not many dunkers in the NBA can hang with NIQUE!! He was the greatest dunker ever!!! Period!! Ask MJ, and he’ll let u know Nique was tbe best.
