For Old Time’s Sake: Yup… Darvin Ham

Anyone who is a fan of the dunk and watched 90s hoops knows who Darvin Ham is. An NBA journeyman and role player at best, dude could jump and smack one on just about anybody in the league. Monstrous ears and monstrous jams… that’s how I remember Darvin Him… o yeah, and this glass shattering put back from his days at Texas Tech. You weren’t an MVP, Darvin, but we got love for you here at SLAM! Shout out to BallisLife for the old school vid.

One of the best dunking benchwarmers the league have seen…

  • karma Posted: Aug.12 at 10:51 am
I remember back in the early 2000′s, I used to record the top 10 for NBA Action every week on my VHS. There was a span of 3-4 weeks where Ham came in 1-3 every week. He threw down some pretty nasty dunks.

    I c u @karma. NBA Action was the sh!t

  • Overtime Posted: Aug.12 at 11:03 am
Oh I see, shout out to ballislife but not to Yinka Dare? Tut tut.
    Ham was a monster!

  • dirty frank Posted: Aug.12 at 11:04 am
Didn’t realize how much I missed a good Ham Slamwich

  • Schneezy Posted: Aug.12 at 11:07 am
@overtime, i get it. Yinka Dare + Shout out is already scheduled. Do not fret, good sir. My b for past lapses.

  • oinestep Posted: Aug.12 at 11:23 am
I remember when he was on my created team on NBA Live 98 the ATLiens…….ahhh the memories

  • Joe A Posted: Aug.12 at 11:33 am
On a side note… Dude was robbed in the 97 dunk contest. That tap backboard 360 he did was nasty.

  • underdog Posted: Aug.12 at 11:47 am
This dude was in-your-face back in the day. Just ask Alonzo Mourning.

  • SpaceJam Posted: Aug.12 at 12:15 pm
Damn! I mean people have broken the rim, but that was a put back dunk

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Aug.12 at 12:22 pm
Darvin Ham got the rim going “HAM”

  • Ronald Posted: Aug.12 at 12:24 pm
@Schneezy: A-hole move crediting Ballislife (despite the fact I know you guys have a collaboration or smth like that) and not crediting Yinka Dare for his mixes. Douchebag!

  • Overtime Posted: Aug.12 at 12:34 pm
@ Schneezy, good on you sir. No disrespect meant, lets just give credit where credit’s due. And much is due to you, for continuing this great line of FOTS!

  • Schneezy Posted: Aug.12 at 12:38 pm
@Ronald… got me deep, bro. Don’t know how I’m gonna come back from those shots.

  • Overtime Posted: Aug.12 at 1:50 pm
@scheezy, no disrepect my friend, lets just give credit where credits due. And a lot is due to you for these brilliant fots’!
(Also hope my comment was at least bit classier than our dear Ronald ^)

  • Enigmatic Posted: Aug.12 at 1:56 pm
It’s ROLE player not “roll”. I been seeing that mistake a lot lately. Don’t get me wrong, there’s been a few “roll players” in the L too. Mike Sweetney, Eddy Curry, Sean May come to mind…

  • Schneezy Posted: Aug.12 at 1:59 pm
@Overtime, I feel you. Credit was/is due. my bad. and yes, what the dilly with Ronald? Dude is cranky. @Enigmatic, true that, fixed.

  • dma Posted: Aug.12 at 2:36 pm
when worse comes to worse my peoples come first dilated people stand up!

  • bakers' dozen (12-13) Posted: Aug.12 at 2:59 pm
He got screwed in the dunk contest…royally.

  • Spaceship Jay Posted: Aug.12 at 3:04 pm
Co-Sign Joe A… That 360 of the backboard was beyond the judges understanding.

  • nastierthanu Posted: Aug.12 at 4:18 pm
Yeah I hate this cat. Not really because he’s an undersized pf. Not because he never really developed a legit post game ala adrian dantley but mostly because he was on the cover of sports illustrated breaking a backboard on my heels in the tournament with serge zwicker doing nothing to protect the house. What’s funny is I can’t play the vid cause I’m on my phone. Seen it all to many times. Which is once

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Aug.12 at 5:00 pm
Ham! He had some nasty jams in the L too, but none were better than this one. Sick

  • KB Posted: Aug.12 at 5:24 pm
he is the original shannon brown. bench warming dunker

  • Oli Posted: Aug.12 at 5:30 pm
ham had some really nice jams during the early 2000s. and he won a ring with the pistons…

  • davidR Posted: Aug.12 at 5:31 pm
haha nastierthanu. man, that last shot of ham posing with the shattered backboard spilling glass behind him is dope

  • larrylegend Posted: Aug.12 at 5:51 pm
got this game on dvd. description: darvin ham shows vince carter how to break a backboard!

  • dfrance21 Posted: Aug.12 at 7:16 pm
I love his reaction, he wasn’t even shocked. He just strolled away under the shattered glass like “this is what I do.”

  • jbone23 Posted: Aug.12 at 7:25 pm
With the Ham-Slamwich!!! We remember you back in Milwaukee Darvin.

  • hammer Posted: Aug.12 at 8:22 pm
My man HAM! Nice trip down memory lane slam! If I remember correctly wasn’t this dunk on an SI cover back then? I’m pretty sure it was

  • hammer Posted: Aug.12 at 8:26 pm
@nastierthanu. Ur right. That was the cover I was talking about. Feel ur anguish as a tar heel fan. But still even tho it was on my tar heels, that was a gr8 dunk as well

  • Justin Posted: Aug.12 at 10:50 pm
I remember watching that dunk live as a little kid. I was huge UNC fan and was watching the game with my dad. Won’t ever forget that dunk.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Aug.12 at 11:12 pm
@KB he is not shannon brown because he can actually dunk in a dunk contest.

  • Jray Posted: Aug.12 at 11:53 pm
Being a young gun and all, what happened when someone broke the backboard? Roll a new one in? Store a couple when the Diesel rolls into town?
