For Old Time’s Sake: Darius Miles

Believe it or not, D Miles had one of the best careers of those drafted in the year 2000. Miles was selected 3rd overall by the Clippers and put up decent numbers as a rookie coming straight out of high school. As a wirey, athletic forward Miles showed glimpses of greatness but was ultimately held back by injuries as well as some off-court issues. After 8 seasons in the league, his average stats were rather unexciting: 10.1 pts, 4.9 rbs, .471 FG%. Going back to the 2000 Draft, here are picks 1-14: 1-Kenyon Martin, 2-Stromile Swift, 3-Darius Miles, 4-Marcus Fizer, 5-Mike Miller, 6-DerMarr Johnson, 7-Chris Mihm, 8-Jamal Crawford, 9-Joel Przybilia, 10-Keyon Dooling, 11-Jerome Moiso, 12-Etan Thomas, 13-Courtney Alexander, 14-Matteen Cleaves…. YIKES! Not the beastliest group of ballplayers…. Shout out to Ramon De Los Santos (SLAM Photo Editor) for sharing the video.

    Shoutouts East Saint Louie.

  • Hisham Posted: Sep.27 at 11:13 am
he was exciting but unworthy of a place in the For Old Times Sake video series. every video posted featured players that range from legendary to very very solid role players who were fan favs. although miles was a fan favorite for a minute there, he doesn’t belong. my fav play of those clippers was the fastbreak where lamar odom caught the long outlet mid-air around the threepoint line and flicked it through to miles for the sick oop. wasthat in the video? (can’t watch, at work)

God I miss those Clippers! I trully thought they turned the corner.

These highlights were pretty incredible considering his career arc of role player. He looked like a poor man’s Lebron James in these highlights, but I think even Miles had a better post than Lebron exhibits now.

  • thalilbigkahuna Posted: Sep.27 at 12:27 pm
I like how about half of these highlights are from the Rookie-Sophomore game.

  • C.B Posted: Sep.27 at 12:37 pm
if things went a little different, he could have been a great player.

  • Nicolas Fleming Posted: Sep.27 at 12:38 pm
When the soundtrack turned to “Through the Wire” the video automatically gained 3 points.

  • Waggle Posted: Sep.27 at 12:40 pm
another enlightening post from the nerve

  • Gman Posted: Sep.27 at 12:42 pm
Do Mo Peterson..I think he was 2000.

  • Marcos Posted: Sep.27 at 1:05 pm
Yeah, really nice how all of his highlights came from games with absolutely no meaning whatsoever.
The OTS section should be for classic guys. Darius is classic only that he represents the bad part of the League, guys who got too much too soon. Guys who considered themselves unstoppable after averaging 9ppg. I mean, Darius best season wasn’t even Penny’s best week. More Kevin McHale or The Microwave, more Isaiah. I wanna see Jeff Malone 3 pointer over some of these miojo eating jumping woofers.

man, this guy had all the talent in the world. just didn’t have the work ethic. schneezy, was hoping you’d post that slam cover of darius, elton, and lamar wearing each other’s jerseys backwards

    Y’all Stretchin it now

  • Schneezy Posted: Sep.27 at 2:45 pm
to all the haters: D Miles had a lot of promise coming out of high school and he was, in my estimation, still part of that earlier crop of high school standouts turned lottery picks before it became a fad and a problem for the league. Yea, he never became all that but we all know who he was and the potential that he had.
to the others: Glad you enjoyed

Loved young DMiles. How about a Robert Pack tribute?

  • Fat Lever Posted: Sep.27 at 4:51 pm
C.B. – that could be the case for a lot of people. That’s what separates the haves from the have-nots(in terms of talent). The greats work on their game, expand it.

  • AdrianC513 Posted: Sep.27 at 5:42 pm
I remember him form cleveland, i know he had some highlights there, but the dunk @ 4 mins is the best

  • BillyQ Posted: Sep.27 at 6:05 pm
he could not shoot to save himself,he had a poor atitude, he played for the clippers and he was part of the worst draft class ever. He was never going to be any good period.

  • kas Posted: Sep.27 at 6:28 pm
feel a few other guys are more deserving: mitch richmond, vlade, barkley etc.

  • AI TO MIAMI!!! Posted: Sep.27 at 6:47 pm
miles was good but never put in da hard work to become a betta player especially when the injuries came.

  • Lz - Cphfinest3 Posted: Sep.27 at 7:04 pm
Wow this was wack. Miles is simply not worthy compared to all the others featured in ‘For Old times sake’. Half the highlights was from the rookie-sophomore game that is basically like doing moves during pre-game lay up line. The highlight reel had tons of high school stuff and even Miles bricking a dunk. One could name a 400 players and find almost as many videos that would have been a better choice.Weak weak..

  • Schneezy Posted: Sep.27 at 7:10 pm

  • Ronald Posted: Sep.27 at 10:24 pm
    overratted.

  • The Wize Posted: Sep.27 at 10:49 pm
    Whose next, Juanny Wags?!

  • Dma Posted: Sep.27 at 11:47 pm
Miles was a nice player. Somehow he could score, make it look easy, and give no effort and never develop a jumper. I still don’t know how he managed 50 points in a game.

  • PlanetAsia14 Posted: Sep.28 at 1:01 am
Hands down one of my favorite top 10 players. Dude’s game was sick, one of my favorite athletes, I love his post game and blocking athleticism… Check out this Youtube link Schneezy, dude takes ‘Bron back to high school… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LbLNLwl8UA Oh, and fast forward to around 1:10 to see it. Sick post moves.

Schneezy I was hoping for early 2000 Clippers vid but I haven’t been able to find one!

  • Anon e Mous Posted: Sep.28 at 5:27 am
Schneezy with respect for all the great FOTS’s we’ve been blessed with, this one just doesn’t belong. Come on people send in them videos. This one may not be a highlight reel but it’s a great insight into The Rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jbtn4B5GH-M&feature=related

  • BBaller Posted: Sep.28 at 6:10 am
Has SLAM done a FOTS :Allen Iverson? Sorry if i have missed it, or is to soon. I still see his Name in Slam Tags and he is supposedly trying out for a Chinese team, but surely a talent like that could fit on some roster in the NBA, even with any ‘baggage’ apparent to come along with AI.
Does anyone have any idea which possible teams could use a former MVP.

  • Hursty Posted: Sep.28 at 7:35 am
Still love that alley-oop from Odom in the final seconds of the clip!

  • Saviour Posted: Sep.28 at 8:32 am
    Enjoyed that.
