Just Cuz: Bo Jackson

A little Barry Sanders, a little Bo Jackson… why not? Thought by many to be the greatest athlete of all time, Bo Knows was a freakishly fast dude built like mack truck. Think the size of Ray Lewis, Brandon Jacobs, any of those mammoth players, and combine that with the speed of Chris Johnson and you can get a pretty good idea of Bo Jackson. He was not only a punishing football player but a great baseball talent as well. He won the Heisman trophy at Auburn, hit 141 home runs over his MLB career, and played in the NFL from ’87 – ’90. His NFL legacy is remarkable considering how short a football career he had. Nike commercials, kicks, video games, cartoons…Bo was the man.

That Nike poster brings back memories.

I’d say Bo Jackson was the best running back of all time. If not the best, in the top 3. Nearly unmatched speed with the power of a wrecking ball. I don’t care that his career was so short due to his hip injury; in my mind, there hasn’t been a rb like him and there won’t be for a long long time.

  • JTaylor21

The GREATEST athlete in NFL history bar none. For someone to move that fast at his size is downright scary, he was like the Bron of the NFL in terms of sheer athletic ability. @Ben, there’s no way in hell that he’s a top-3 runner, it’s like saying that BKing’s a Top-3 SF of all-time. Longevity does count in terms of ranking players. SLAM can we also get a Earl Campbell Just Cuz, dude was a straight up freight train and I remember when he trucked that defender using his head, WOWZER!!

  • http://aol.com Run’N'Gun219

Bo was a freak. Speed, power, size, quickness, work ethic. What happened to the two sport athelets? havent seen one since him and deon . And what yall know about pro stars one of my favorite cartoons. With him MJ and Wanye Gretzky> use to wake up on a saturday morning with my Honey Combs and use to be so geeked. lol

  • Papa Smurf

greatest athlete i’ve ever seen (i’m 33 years old). and it ain’t even close.

  • http://aol.com Run’N'Gun219

And on another note playing with the raiders on techmo bowl was like playing with the Patriots or Colts on madden. Bo and Marcus allen was un-freaking-stoppable .

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE….my goodness what an athlete, his workout regimen was absolutely INSANE. greatest athlete ever….period.

  • JTaylor21

@TBRK, I would have to say LeBron’s the greatest athlete ever not taking anything away from Bo because he comes in at a close second and MJ’s rounding third.

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

in that tecmo run, bo ran for 500 yards in 1 play, and single handedly used up the entire 1st quarter clock. tecmo football was fun as hell. star players were unstoppable. montana to rice was a reception everytime no matter what

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Usually I am, sometimes I’m not. I don’t take it seriously, but I do like to crack a joke sometimes. Lol.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@JT, I can dig where your coming from saying Lebron, on paper Lebron is the better athlete just being 6’8 270ish and cat quick. But then you gotta put into account the fact that Bo could bench 500lb, had been clocked under 4.1 in the 40 yd-dash, and, unlike another superathlete all of us know, was able to transition to one of the best outfielders in baseball.

  • Robb

    @Allenp lol damn

  • Papa Smurf

I gotta ask your age? Not trying to be disrespectful . . . just want to know if you truly saw Bo at his greatest. I knew someone would say LeBron, but I just don’t think it’s close.

  • Papa Smurf

    Hey Black Rick,

Do you have a link to a site explaining his workout routine?

  • JTaylor21

@Papa Smurf, I’m 23. Please explain to me how it’s not that close and why Bron’s not the better athlete.

  • JTaylor21

Yeah Black Rick, I really need to see his training routine.

  • Papa Smurf

I’m looking at both brute strength and speed – which you can see from the football highlights (LeBron hasn’t shown he could dish out the same punishment Bo could dish out) . . .

agility and hand-eye coordination – which he showed by becoming an all star in baseball (hitting a 95 mph fastball is more difficult than making a 3 pointer).

Just my opinion . . . no way to settle this argument for sure

  • The Philosopher

    Shout out to Gunpei Yokoi.

  • Papa Smurf

Check out the baseball highlights at the beginning of this video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs-1hPkLKeQ

Bo Jackson would have been the greatest running back ever if not for the fluke injury, people forget he played baseball at a high level too. Some people feel Lebron James is a great athlete, but what Bo did on the Football and Baseball field will never be duplicated and Bo is the greatest athlete ever. Someone will come along in basketball and be Lebron’s height with his size, but hit, run and jump like BO will never happen again in modern sports. A TRUE two sport athlete.BOOK IT!!!

Bo Jackson is my number 1 athlete of all time, followed by Deion Sanders. Brian Bosworth knows

    TRUCK STICK!!!!!!

  • OneStep

You can’t beat the sight of a guy with breakaway speed eating up the ground and leaving defenders in his wake. My heart sank when he had his injury because, selfishly, I was going to be denied seeing him continuing to do his stuff and break all kinds of records in the process. What an incredible athlete.

Bo knows Slam? Hahaha gotta love Mr. Jackson…
