Video: Rudy Gay Thinks ‘Turkey is a Great City’

NBA players have a rich and hilarious history of not being up to speed on their foreign surroundings, and Rudy Gay is the latest to add to that tradition. (Via YBB):

Naah man..it’s not only>>NBA-players..don’t get it twisted…it’s AMERICANS..who are so dumb that they get confused when they find themselves outside u.s. :)

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Sep.8 at 11:14 am
Gay is an asset to the NBA.

  • neaorin Posted: Sep.8 at 11:18 am
I always wanted to visit Istanbul. I’ve heard it’s a great country.

  • JD Posted: Sep.8 at 11:50 am
Some Americans are really stupid i know someone who went over to the states but came back after 2 years cos they couldnt bare
    1. How racist they were
    2.How stupid they were

  • ilyasova Posted: Sep.8 at 11:57 am
first granger, now gay. this usa team is losing peoples sympathy. people may start to cheer against them.

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Sep.8 at 12:12 pm
….lol, dang yall he didn’t mean it disrespectfully. We talking about a dude born and raised in Baltimore plays in Memphis, prolly never been outside the country until now, he didn’t mean any disrespect lol

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Sep.8 at 12:17 pm
@JD….Whatever dude, that person lied to you. The smartest people in the world live in this country dude. I don’t know who your friend was but the only way that could even be possible is if she got dropped off in some little confederate relic in the south.

  • Ben Posted: Sep.8 at 12:25 pm
When you travel and talk to local people, you realize how bad some American tourists are. I came across more than one American that were saying they were Canadians to get a warmer welcome. All of this because of a stupid minority. Still, the pro-USA propaganda is huge in the US.

  • Andrew Posted: Sep.8 at 12:31 pm
I thought Turkey was a continent..no joke. *sarcasm alert*

  • el_nino_torres Posted: Sep.8 at 12:31 pm
i still remember when i travelled to cancun with a friend of mine from panama….and when this american guy asked my friend where he was from and my friend answered “panama”….the guy said “what is a panama”…….classic!

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Sep.8 at 12:32 pm
Its so stupid when we get losers like this talking about ‘all Americans are fat/racist/stupid’ when they’ve never been to American and only know about America whatever their media chooses to portray…I don’t know where yall are from but being perfectly reasonable- chances are your country isn’t larger than one of our bigger states. That should tell you all you need to know about pigeonholing stereotypes to an entire nation that just happens to be the 3rd largest in the world with the world’s largest economy. Lets put it like this if you don’t like Americans so much…Slam is an American company so yeah you can click ‘X’…oh while your at it the ‘Internet’ is an American technology so if you really wanna show your disdain just log off…lol its funny I’m not even close to a patriotic rah-rah type dude, but lets at least get some things straight before we start speaking, please….

  • RIGGS Posted: Sep.8 at 12:45 pm
pigeonholing americans into a generalized group is so stupid because chances are people from your damn country live here too.

  • Sparty's Law Posted: Sep.8 at 1:06 pm
Damn, and I always thought UConn was a pretty good school.

  • Backboard Posted: Sep.8 at 1:15 pm
woah, Calm down everyone. we all Know Gay wasnt disrespectful. its just that He is Not very smart. but a Lot of Americans don’t Know anything about anything outside us borders. i Know many Americans and Even though they are generally intelligent, when it comes to Other countries and cultures they are blank. Not that they have to Care, the USA is Big enough by itself. so Why bother with Other stuff?? alSo

  • Backboard Posted: Sep.8 at 1:24 pm
Darn iPhone….. also, about what jd Said. I, myself, had a relationship with an african-American Girl. in 03 we went to Portland, OR to stay at her familys house for a month. After One Week i was Ready to go Home because i was Not able to deal with the blatant and subtle racism towards me As a White Guy being with a Black Girl. from her Family to me, White Americans to her Family. it wasnt in Your face Type of racism, it was subtle and Not spoken about. But its there and everyone knows it…. i Love American Sports, music, Parts of the Culture but thank you, im happy here in Europe.

  • ktokyo Posted: Sep.8 at 1:25 pm
I agree with Backboard. First of all, Rudy didn’t mean any disrespect so I give him a pass. Honest mistake. Secondly, America has some of the brightest minds in the world. Many of the brightest minds in the US are also immigrants from other countries. The campuses of the best universities (Harvard, MIT, etc.) are full of students from Asia and Europe. It’s great and I have nothing but respect for America. However, the average American’s knowledge of other countries is astoundingly low (I have spent plenty of time in the US). For example, many Americans I have talked to know absolutely nothing about Canada or Mexico even though they are neighbours. They have these strange stereotypes about them.

  • LA Huey Posted: Sep.8 at 1:36 pm
That’ll teach him to him to try to say something nice. The world is ignorant, stop acting like its an epidemic exclusive to Americans. Also, shame on any American tourist that poses as a national from any other country.

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Sep.8 at 1:39 pm
    @LA Huey…drop game though bruh

  • Mitya Posted: Sep.8 at 2:02 pm
lol, he had to say it TWICE

  • LA Huey Posted: Sep.8 at 2:14 pm
    ** typos galore
@The BRK, I don’t know what you just said, fam.

  • Overtime Posted: Sep.8 at 2:16 pm
Obvious he didnt mean it in disrespect. However, where he grew up or plays ball isn’t really an excuse. I live as far away from Sydney as u can virtually get, but we all know its not a country.
Also, its ignorant to call an entire country as stupid or racist…and entire country of MILLIONS of people are supposed to have the same level of intelligence or the same moral views?

  • Enigmatic Posted: Sep.8 at 2:38 pm
Man, I love this country (USA). I LOVE this country so much I raised my hand and swore to protect her during a time of war, and I’d do it again in a hearbeat. But sometimes you gotta take a step back and try to see how the rest of the world sees us through their point of view, and it’s not looking too good. We’re seen as arrogant, ignorant and self-absorbed. The simple fact that we call ourselves American and our country America has the rest of North and South America heated, like “this whole continent is America, not just your country”. We got idiots like Terry Jones wanting to burn Korans, which would piss of at least about a fifth of the entire WORLD population. Basically, what I’m trying to get at is that Rudy Gay, whether he likes it or not, in his capacity as a member of Team USA, is supposed to project a positive image of our great country and be an ambassador of sorts. Yes, it was an honest mistake and all that good stuff, but dude shoulda done his homework. Studied up on where he was playing and all that. I know in the military whenever I was in a foreign country, it was my responsiblity to know about the country, its customs and cultures so as to not offend the host nation. And I was just a lowly PFC, so a high-profile athlete should be expected to do the same. It’s not a big deal to us, but it is to Turkey.

  • Allenp Posted: Sep.8 at 2:39 pm
It’s funny who many people are upset that this dude didn’t know Turkey was a country.
    Look, we don’t care.
    Seriously, most Americans don’t care.
We know you all think we are dumb, and fat and violent and we don’t care.
    We reallly don’t.
Sorry if that bothers y’all. Good luck.

  • Allenp Posted: Sep.8 at 2:42 pm
And whenever ANYBODY from another country has the audacity to call Americans “racist” it cracks me up.
Seriously, I read the news people. Y’all are living in glass houses for real. Just don’t go there, and long time readers know how I feel about racism in this country.

  • Jumper Posted: Sep.8 at 3:26 pm
This man misspoke while trying to compliment a country foreign to him while explaining how he is enjoying their culture…clearly he should be stoned to death.

  • total scrotal implosion Posted: Sep.8 at 3:31 pm
The us doesnt have the market cornered in racism, stupidity, sloth, and violence. Theres tons of those throughout the world, to act or think otherwise is ignorant

  • Chukaz Posted: Sep.8 at 3:36 pm
rudy gay is so stupid. how could turkey be a city? you can’t fit a city in a oven…

  • Enigmatic Posted: Sep.8 at 3:55 pm
Oh and a big F YOU to those of y’all that bad-mouthed my country. That is all.

  • Allenp Posted: Sep.8 at 3:58 pm
    TSI
These foreign cats are trip. Lord knows I complain about the U.S.A. a lot, but this is ridiculous.
Dude isn’t up on his World Geography, and so what?
Y’all getting mighty snippy about something so minor.
Why do y’all even care if he knows Turkey is a country? How many of y’all use the generic “Africa” when discussing the continent as if it is in fact a country? Man, don’t get me started on the widespread racism and xenophobia in many countries…. Italy anyone?

  • ilyasova Posted: Sep.8 at 4:03 pm
i wonder what they’re doing at college except playing basketball. most of the europian players doesnt go to college, but they are not as ignorant as ncaa based players.

  • Allenp Posted: Sep.8 at 4:31 pm
    Ilyasova
I would imagine they are ignorant about lots of stuff. Just not the same stuff that American players are ignorant about.
I’ll bet if you needed to know how to cook a meal for five people using a hot plate, more American NBA players could give you the 411 than foreign ones.
But, I guess that knowledge is only usual in certain situations. Kind of like knowing that Turkey is a country.

  • Overtime Posted: Sep.8 at 4:35 pm
@AllenP, I find it incredibly annoying when people say things like ”you know, in countries like Africa”.
Lesson here, every country in the world has some people deluded and stupid enough to be racist

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Sep.8 at 4:45 pm
lol Huey I was just agreeing with you

  • Bdub Posted: Sep.8 at 4:48 pm
Always dangerous to generalise. Yet people still do. Annoying. But having only lived in two places. New Zealand and Tanzania, USA’s international rep in thjose countries is not so hot. Personally i find the States fascinating like 52 countries in one with people originating from places all over the world. Cant wait to go there!!!!

  • Jukai Posted: Sep.8 at 5:03 pm
I’d love to respond, really, I want to.
But I’d much rather just repost Allenp’s response:
It’s funny who many people are upset that this dude didn’t know Turkey was a country.
    Look, we don’t care.
    Seriously, most Americans don’t care.
We know you all think we are dumb, and fat and violent and we don’t care.
    We reallly don’t.
Sorry if that bothers y’all. Good luck.

this doesn’t warrant a discussion of the ugly american abroad. this is just a nice, friendly kid who seems to have a limited knowledge of geography.

    @The BRK, cool, fam.
@US-Haters, here’s an analogy. Let’s say: World = casual NBA fans of many different teams; US = casual Laker fans. Now, why tell me why Pacer fans can be rightly outraged/annoyed by the fact these Laker fans don’t know or care about who the starting SF is for the Indiana Pacers?

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Sep.8 at 6:25 pm
It is extremely hypocritical for people outside the US (name Europeans) to accuse Americans of racism, but to the AMERICANS OUT THERE, don’t act like you’re so righteous about everything. Trust me, (some) Americans can be quite the racist pr!cks. But, of course that applies to, oh wait, EVERY COUNTRY.

  • backboard Posted: Sep.8 at 6:26 pm
allenp, spoken like a true american. just make sure you never leave the country. Thank you and good night…

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Sep.8 at 6:27 pm
Co-sign Enigmatic’s first comment. VERY well put, holmes.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Sep.8 at 6:50 pm
^ Thanks, Teddy. Like I’ve said, I love the US with all my heart, but every country, including us, thinks their sh*t don’t stink. On a side note, this geographical faux pas reminds me of a similar quote by another (former) Grizzly – “I knew Elvis was from Memphis but I didn’t know he was from Tennessee!”

  • frank Posted: Sep.8 at 6:52 pm
This “americans are idiots” thing is crazy, from the americans I’ve met most are very smart, good people. So some people are not as educated about other countries as you are. Who cares? And saying ANY country is “rascist” is insane. Of course they would have rascists, same as any other country. ALSO, I would like to point out that Chukaz comment was gold.

  • Wayno Posted: Sep.8 at 6:55 pm
    Geography FAIL

  • Boing Dynasty Posted: Sep.8 at 7:40 pm
Nobody else seen that HBO movie about the Baltimore school system? Your expectaions are kind of unreasonable. Also, there is a difference between being educated in foreign geography and being smart.

  • total scrotal implosion Posted: Sep.8 at 8:12 pm
I wonder how many europeans know the capital of south dakota. Oh wait, aside from a small number, they dont care. And will let you know by saying all americans in south dakota are fat, violent morons. The point is, there are nearly 7 billion people on this sphere, 300 million or so in usa. To say all americans are the same is dumb and wrong. Every country has problems, no doubt. …. Without trying to sound arrogant, im an intelligent person. I have a good amount of knowledge on many subjects, and life experience in many things. How many europeans cant point to rapa nui on a map? How many know where addis ababa is? How many know who marcus garvey was? Point being, I can explain how mass generalizations of americans are untrue, but that wont change their minds, and I dont care. I dont base my self worth on what snooty people thousands of miles away think they know about me. In short, like allenp stated, I dont give a fu(k.

5th Grade Geography Fail. Wow. Not very bright. How did he even pass the minimum ACT or SAT score to get into UCONN?

  • Joel O's Posted: Sep.8 at 9:51 pm
Well he’s probably just used to going “Chicago/Cleveland/LA/etc. is a great CITY”, he probably has to say that hundreds of times a year.

  • Groves Posted: Sep.8 at 11:04 pm
@the black rick kamla. no, the smartest people in the world don’t all live in the usa, and on averge, an americans ignorance is about 4 times higher than other countries. I love america, but you guys need get some education

  • el_nino_torres Posted: Sep.8 at 11:43 pm
yes GROVES, yes…..im not american but i went to college in the US….so from experience i can say that you cant generalize and say that all americans are idiots…..a great percentage yes, but not all….i still like americans though….except their national soccer team!!

  • Enigmatic Posted: Sep.9 at 12:18 am
“on averge (sic) an americans (sic again) ignorance is about 4 times higher than other countries.” Awesome job Groves, just where did you obtain this scientific data from? Making an ignorant statement about us Americans’ ignorance being four ties higher than the rest of the world, were it true, would be equivalent to Wesley Snipes calling the late Bernie Mac (RIP!) black!

  • Enigmatic Posted: Sep.9 at 12:20 am
*four times. Damnit, sorry, my M key is as busted up as Groves’ intellect.

  • gani Posted: Sep.9 at 12:28 am
people make mistakes, i think rudy gay just made an honest mistake. i think wherever you go in the whole world there will always be people who end up giving their country bad reputations. all it takes is a few bad incidents from a few ‘bad’ people to ruin one’s impressions of a certain country.

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Sep.9 at 12:38 am
lol my man @Enigmatic is going in lol so true. How do you measure what is ignorance?? Refer to @Total Scrotum Implosion comments because I’d rather not waste any time restating it myself. And yes @Groves the smartest people in the world do live in this country the brains behind almost every important technological advance gather here and there is a reason

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Sep.9 at 12:49 am
In no way do I think Rudy Gay is giving America a bad rep, really. I mean, sure it’s a little iffy but he seems like a good dude, and he had nothing but compliments for Turkey. Doesn’t mean he isn’t smart, nor does it give America a bad impression. He’s representing America for something positive here, even despite the errors.

  • Ali Posted: Sep.9 at 2:31 am
This ain’t about Americans and or the USA vs. the World, and definitely it ain’t about race. It’s about people. Get a passport and try to get out of your bubble and travel the world a little bit. Then maybe you will know the difference between and country, city, town, village, etc… “Real knowledge is to know the extent of one’s ignorance.” – Confucius “Nothing in the world is more dangerous than a sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.” – MLK Jr. “The recipe for perpetual ignorance is: Be satisfied with your opinions and content with your knowledge.” – Elbert Hubbard

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Sep.9 at 3:28 am
@Ali…you used that MLK quote completely out of context bruh….I doubt you even know what letter that quote came from or what he was talking about….so yeah, would me calling you ignorant/stupid/etc. be valid??? didn’t think so. everybody needs to hop off their little high horses and realize that nobody knows everything. Knowledge, firstly, can not be measured and even if it could, basing it on one’s proficiency in world geography couldn’t be more ignorant in itself.

  • Ali Posted: Sep.9 at 4:12 am
@The Black Rick Kamla…16 Apr 63 Bir-Ham, Bama Jail Cell…and I’m not about to get into the contents of the ltr with you on a B-Ball blog! Maybe I did somewhat take quote out of context but IGNORANCE is IGNORANCE in my book. I never presume to be all knowing like some. Just stating the obvious ignorant/mistake/whatever we want to call it, statement Rudy made concerning Turkey.

  • Donner Posted: Sep.9 at 4:15 am
That’s not a bad mistake. Except that he actually is in Turkey right now. Way to observe your surroundings, Rudy!

  • Ricochet Posted: Sep.9 at 4:48 am
I remember Shaq committing a similar blunder when he mistook the pantheon for a greek night club. With all the travelling involved (on and off the court), you’d think the one subject athletes would be good at is geography, hehe. And about the “americans are stupid/ignorant” thing, that’s just an equally stupid/ignorant generalisation as I’ve heard people from everywhere blurting silly geographic statements.

  • Yesse Posted: Sep.9 at 5:05 am
Are you kidding me? This just fits the american stereo type perfectly. I can already see many europeans getting on this, but i don’t think im gonna join in.

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Sep.9 at 5:09 am
@Ali then like @TSI said above is it more ignorant not know that Turkey is a country than it is to not know what the capital of South Dakota is??? There are 2 viewpoints here- one is a Eurocentric viewpoint, which the majority of you European posters are espousing, which believes that consciousness of Europe and European culture/history/civilization are fundamental to what is ‘knowledge’….an ideology that couldn’t possibly be more flawed.

  • Marco Posted: Sep.9 at 5:09 am
ALLENP, can you explain what you think of Italy?
I agree that violence and racism is widespread all over the world and that these US-bashing comments are just ridiculous and stupid, but to quote Italy as an example of racism and xenophobia is inappropriate and wrong.

  • Hursty Posted: Sep.9 at 7:18 am
Um, its way more important to know that Turkey is a nation, not a city, than it is to know the capital of South Dakota. Especially in the political climate we have today.
The U.S, by and large has a very self-centred view. Thats not just an opinion, thats truth.

  • Rikson Posted: Sep.9 at 7:35 am
“Its so stupid when we get losers like this talking about ‘all Americans are fat/racist/stupid’ when they’ve never been to American and only know about America whatever their media chooses to portray…I ” The funny thing is that’s exactly how us-citizens behave regarding the rest of the world… FYI: the inet technology was developed in CERN!

  • Rikson Posted: Sep.9 at 7:53 am

  • deshawn33 Posted: Sep.9 at 9:54 am
so rudy gay got that wrong-does that prove that he´s an ignorant idiot?no,just proves being a multimillionaire doesnt make you educated or smart-he´s not getting paid for scientific brilliance but for playing basketball-good for him that that gets him that kind of money.important for kids to realize though, that many of those”semi-gods from the commercials”are really pretty human in most things-and not necessarily on a high level at that.they just happen to be really good at something that in todays world is being (over?)valued.several things i feel i have to adress, though.i have to agree with hursty that the us indeed has a self-centered view-part of that is certainly due to its size-as the opposite can be said eg for the scandinavian countries.(in relation to media,market-structures etc.)now in the globalized world we live in today, allenp´s and jukai´s “we just dont care”mentality ain´t the way to solve our problems in the future..yes,there´s ignorance everywhere,no doubt, and i really dont think a lot depends on wether the average american can name many capitals of european countries and vice versa, but that innate american sense of entitlement-we are the greatest country etc..-it´s ok that we use about 25% of world energy even if we have just 5% of the worlds population etc..that appeared to be somewhat prevalent in many areas of the country i´ve been to.and thats got to go.and black rick:stop bragging about how all the most intelligent people in the world are americans etc..many people from all over the world are working and researching somewher ein the us-and many innovations and patents come from germany asia etc..on a scientific level it´s really a global effort nowadays, time for evrybody to grow up and get over this nationalistic bs..

    To The World:
With all AND fullest due respect to the rest of the world who may read this thread, nothing in the entire world we live in happens OR occurs, transpire, etc., without the blessings of arguably The Greatest Country humanity has ever witnessed. The USA.
    Period.
And, it is NOT by accident.
Even WHEN the world’s governments gather and congregate, it is The United States who breaks the bread first.

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.9 at 10:36 am
And, WHENEVER a world event unfolds, it is The United States coming in, with world renowned calvary, such as Enigmatic, The Soldier.
There is NO country like The United States.
    Never has been.
    Never will be again.
It does not matter, the negativity, the perceived lack of knowledge, racism, etc.
    None of that really matters.
Racism is within the individual, not nations.
    The United States is…
    The G.O.A.T.

  • rikson Posted: Sep.9 at 11:04 am
@Philosopher: Such a comment with THAT name – youre a joke!

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.9 at 11:16 am
    @rikson:
You commented that it is ignorant to generalize.
You should study AND analyze your 7:53 a.m. comment.
I’ll continue as the joke as you bask in your ignorance and contradictions.
I hope my being a joke is funny.

  • rikson Posted: Sep.9 at 11:32 am
Nothing against your comment, there is truth in it! But at least have the decency to change your name before posting that patriot ish! Yeah, USA is kind of a leader globewise… But its a leader of a crappy and corrupted system, thats values money and economy more than life itself. Using wars to generate income. Lying to its own citizens. Cutting freedom. Yeah buddy, youre ought to be proud of that!

  • rikson Posted: Sep.9 at 11:38 am
Plus: How you get the idea that i generalize, while Im talking JUST about you – and only you – is beyond me…

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.9 at 11:46 am
    @rikson:
“The funny thing is that’s exactly how U.S. citizens behave regarding the rest of the world”.-
    How do you know that?
    Is that not generalizing?
Again, I do not mean disrespect when regarding The United States’ greatness.
    I’m just telling the truth.
    Maybe it is beyond you…

  • rikson Posted: Sep.9 at 11:49 am
But knowing you were educated by – and have the cultural background of – a system that is based on the surface of things rather than content, I shouldnt be surprised that some kid named “The Philosopher” posts this stuff… Learned my lesson!

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.9 at 11:49 am
And, the things that The United States Government partake and participate in has nothing to do with me.
It is not my personal business.
I would be foolish to be proud of something that I did not do.

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.9 at 11:54 am
    rikson:
Sounds like you are generalizing again.
How do you know I was educated in The United States?
How do you know that I’m educated?
How do you know that I live in The United States?
How do you know that I am not on the outside looking in?

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.9 at 11:56 am
    And, you like my name.

  • rikson Posted: Sep.9 at 12:00 pm
First: I never commented that its ignorant to generalize. We all generalize, its the only way to build an opinion on certain topics. Otherwise we could never talk about an amount of people that exceeds the number of knowable individuals. But ill give you this: I would change my comment to “most US citizens”. You have to admit that there is truth in it. I cant think of any modern country that is so self-centered…

  • rikson Posted: Sep.9 at 12:04 pm
“The Greatest Country humanity has ever witnessed. The USA.” So if you like talking about generalizing, let me turn the spear… How do you know that? Youve been to every country? See… we ALL generalize. But a smart person like surely knows this!—– And apologies for the “youre a joke”-line, that was unnecessary.

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.9 at 12:05 pm
Again, do you know most U.S. citizen?
Have you met most U.S. citizens?
    It is still generalizing.
    It is also racism.
    It is also stereotyping.

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.9 at 12:07 pm
    And, I appreciate the apology.
    Very classy.
And, as far as The Greatest country…
That is a modern historical fact.

    Y’all got some nerve.

    Rikson
Great Britain and France both rival the USA for being self-absorbed. In fact, most Western nations are incredibly self absorbed. The difference is that the USA doesn’t mind telling everybody we think we’re the best, and we don’t care that much if you don’t like it.
That’s reality. I’m not saying it’s the best way to go through life, but the crux of people’s complaints is “The USA likes itself too much.” Considering the history of western civilization, along with your current behavior in many “third world” countries, y’all are going to have to do better than that.

“And, as far as The Greatest country…
That is a modern historical fact.” -> Sorry man, BUT thats ignorant!

  • rikson Posted: Sep.10 at 5:52 am
@AllenP: Youre right, alot of nations are self-centered! I think the difference is that this state of mind is so strong in the US that it has found its way into education! Thats why the world calls you ignorant… We dont think your dumb. You just dont get any chance to learn about other countries and your surroundings! You have to understand, that this will paint a picture of you (the US) not caring, even if its not true.

  • rikson Posted: Sep.10 at 5:54 am
And before you say I have no Idea. My family is from the US, and I was there a lot. Even going to high school a year… And I was shocked!

  • rikson Posted: Sep.10 at 5:57 am
@Philosopher: Whats the greatest for you? Lets define that. As I couldnt care less about the income or economy of a country, but that may be the things that makes a country great for you…

  • rikson Posted: Sep.10 at 5:58 am
“And let’s not even discuss how many European nations treat the “Roma.”
Y’all got some nerve.” And that has something to do with…..?

  • rikson Posted: Sep.10 at 6:00 am
@BlackRick: The Inet technology was invented in CERN – between switzerland and france! But it was used first in the US… Enough of this, lets talk bball again: Anybody seen scola collapsing yesterday..?

  • Bassbesteck Posted: Sep.10 at 10:26 am
it’s not only americans, just look up some quotes by european soccer players, dudes aren’t the brightest either… it’ not about being american, it’s about not using your head and reading a book once in a while, which maaaaaany people nowadays don’t..

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.10 at 10:36 am
When the entire world calls on America in the time of calamity… to come rescue everybody…

  • Allenp Posted: Sep.10 at 11:10 am
    Rikson
It has something to do with the accusations of racism thrown at Rudy Gay, Danny Granger and Americans as a whole.
    Keep up.

Regarding public education in usa: its not simple at all. Its not just ‘american education sucks thats why youre all dumb’. The powers that be do not want an educated peoples. They spend billions on war, billions against drugs, billions in bailouts. They could easily fix the sihtty edu system, but they dont want to. The govt wants people to be ignorant of the true reality. They dont want people to realize weve been and are currently being fleeced in a major way. Whats that malcolm x quote? Weve been took, had, hoodwinked, bamboozled? The tv news, newspaper, etc is mostly propaganda. The entire political system is rigged. Voting changes nothing, except some on the local level. Two party system is really a one party system. It is fake. They want us divided and illinformed, it is working. This illusion of choosing our leaders and having a say is a total shamockery. Im sure allenp will agree with all this. ………… As someone mentioned earlier, the size of usa is a factor in why many dont care about europe etc. The different regions in usa are almost different countries. Its annoying when euros etc act like their siht dont stink. Your country isnt perfect.

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.11 at 12:12 am
Agree with tsi on many points.
Again, shout out to the Illuminati.

  • JD Posted: Sep.11 at 4:06 pm
America the greatest country the world has ever witnessed?Thats why everyone hates you. You cant say Americans arent ignorant your being ignorant right now. For example, Americans were too ignorant to play Football, Rugby with the rest of the world so they invented their own sport and couldnt even come up with a better name than Football(despite the fact there isnt much kicking involved anyway) The greatest country the world has ever witnessed doesnt give the world the Nuclear Weapons, the Cold War,the guy whos burning the Korans and the KKK. The greatest conutry in the world doesnt have widespread poverty, obesity, and racism a mostly terrible education system, and it doesnt deprive its citizens of free health care for fear of being communist. Few American politicians have ever asked themselves if Communism is really that bad,and when Brandon Roy missed the national anthem to pray instead, he was suddenly called a Communist. When asked who their country should invade next in the war on terror, one american said france and another said Italy. Its really not much to be proud of. I’m British and if i asked most of my mates, then they’d say they think most Americans are douches. To be honest the average Briton thinks the average American is fat, dumb and ignorant. I’m not saying the USA is the worst place in the world, but if i have a choice to live anywhere in the world i’d probably say Australlia, or Britain.

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.11 at 9:13 pm
    @JD:
    You are misguided.
YOU sound ignorant with your generalizations.
You do not know where I live, or where I am from.
The United States has the clout to “invent their own sport”.
If one desires to play football, they go to America.
It seems you have not read up on the history of nuclear technology. Everyone wanted the bomb.
America was shrewd enough… to get it.
Yale, Harvard, Princeton, etc. are three of the greatest educational institutions in the world. They are American.
People who rule the world went to those schools.
Also, finally, it does not really matter how one feels about another. I’m sure many people feel similarly towards each other.
It cancels each other out in the big picture.
    You are jealous.
    Period.

  • JD Posted: Sep.12 at 10:16 am
Jealous? What of? Having free health care when you have to pay?Look im not saying that the US is the worst country in the world, it would probably be in my top 15 countries i’d want to live in,but surely you must accept that that there are better places to live in. I’m not generalizing, i said widespread. Just saying that by comparison with other western countries the US records on many of these things arent as good. And arent Harvard, Yale and Princeton all Unis i meant secondary education, cos without that, whats the point in University? And it maybe that becuase of what you have been taught that America is the greatest etc in school you havent given much thought to whether this is actually true or not and are therefore dismissing my arguments as ignorant and jealous. GB doesnt have much that America doesnt in the way of helping you in life. What do you mean the USA has the clout to invent their own sport? GB invented Football(Real Football), Rugby, Cricket, badminton, Table Tennis, etc. These are sports played throughout the world by many more countries than say American Football or Baseball(Though Basketball is awesome)

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.12 at 11:28 am
You just said that because Americans don’t play with the rest of the world, so they invent their own sport. You have a tinge of contradiction.
    Anyways…
Great Britain has some of the highest taxes in the world, no?
Secondary educations in the United States is about the individual who is raising the child. Enough information and resources are out there for many people to get a decent education. Even outside of America.
Also, I have thought about and researched my claim as America being the greatest country in the world.
Maybe you should do more research.
As for your jealousy, maybe I’m inaccurate on that, but when you question one’s intellect on a topic, you must at least expect a negative response. Jealousy can breed negativity.
In conclusion, again, you must do your research. Today’s vision and perception on the U.S. is skewed.
    Though it is by design.
There is a big picture to this, and again, The United States is/will/and will continue to draw that picture.
    And, the world knows it.
    You do, too.

Philosopher has some valid points, but his arrogance is over the top, as is jds. So, perfect match. Oh jd, how u enjoy millions of cameras everywhere watching and tracking ur every move?

  • The Philosopher Posted: Sep.12 at 11:55 am
    @tsi:
    If you only REALLY knew.
    My arrogance is… legendary.
