Video: Blake Griffin’s Slam-Dunking Debut

We saw Blake take off for the skies quite a bit during the preseason, but last night, it was on for real. And though his Clippers lost to Portland, he did not disappoint:

Dude is gonna be a problem, his combination of strength and athleticism is second only to LeBron.. Wall better put up some numbers if he wants to win rookie of the Year cause Blake is comin’ in hot

  • jahmai

Blake is the real deal, the best rookie since LeBron, without a doubt. It’s not just the incredible athleticism but also the rebounding, even in the preseason this guy was al over the glass. AMAZING.

  • David -aussie in Canada

his guards really have to figure out a way to get him the ball. instead of just hoping he grabs the offensive rebounds for them

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Dude’s motor is top notch.

  • Drew

That was 2 very impressive put back dunks. He’s got some incredible reach.

  • PapaBearATL

The Clips need to learn an inside out game, Blake will be a problem! If not, they will see him leave like all the decent top lottery picks they have had.

  • slamfan4life

what else do you expect from a #1 big man, this is how they are SUPPOSE TO BE

He’s gonna do great things for the Clippers, I hope he doesnt pull an Oden and get hurt again

ODEN, you need to come back strong like this cat!

Melo! TAKE NOTICE…if u want to leave, the clippers r ur best bet

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

best rookie since Lebron??? Did yall forget bout D12. However, he’s gonna have a short career if he keeps jumping that recklessly.

Stop being a hater Kap, DHow WHO? It’s a close race between Bron and BGriff as to who is the best athlete in the L. I used to think that Bron was head and shoulders above everyone else but watching BGriff last night I might have to say he’s about .0000001 the better athlete than Bron. Just imagine if he would have been healthy last year, he would have saved that sorry a** dunk contest. Come on Slam folks, let’s start up a LetBlakeDunk website and a NeverEverLetShannonDunk.com.

he got no touches last night

  • http://slamonline.com LAKERSLEGEND

Blake is a monster and thats in his game jumping reckless trying to get to every loose ball thats just how he plays and he is going to a dominate player in the L one day

  • http://www.twiter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

@Kap How did he “jump recklessly” on either on of those plays?

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I was referring to his entire performance last nite. I love watching him play but he is gonna destroy his body if he keeps jumping and diving the way he does on those knees. I just wanna see this guy have a long career.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Watching this game, Blake is a lot quicker on his feet then I expected, he doesnt look like he can move very fast.. Should be R.O.Y.

  • http://bulls.com airs

i dont think its how he’s jumping, but rather how he’s landing. he’s real stiff when he lands, thats scary

  • http://upandfresh.fr frednetick

    Damm good kidd…

  • onlyclipsfanonslam

Kap… so the thing that makes him so special (his non stop hustle and work ethic) you want him to give up? Would you also tell Dwayne Wade to stop driving so hard to the bucket? Haters gonna hate

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I’m hating because I want him to have a career opposite of Antonio McDyess? I hope someone out there knows what I’m trying to say.

  • onlyclipsfanonslam

No you don’t. Sure I want him to stay healthy. But, he wouldn’t be Blake Griffin if he didn’t outwork everyone. That is what you don’t get.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

No…he could chill out on some of the plays where he dives and lands recklessly on the court or where he tries to break the backboard and lands awkwardly on his knees. I don’t want him to end up like McDyess or any of those other explosive big guys who injured there knee, lost all there explosiveness, and eventually had a short career or one not close to the one they could of potentially had if injuries didn’t happen.

  • http://www.dimemag.com Royal

I understand what your saying Kap……Blake goes at 1000% all the time. Hopefully he has a very healthy stint in the NBA though.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I have never seen a guy that explosive though. When he develops his offensive game we are going to be looking at a defensive minded Stoudemire…

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

barring injury I would bet my car hes ROY, hes great, Wall will not be close…and D12 is the best rook since Bron

  • jahearndc

I completely understand the concerns of Kap and airs. The point that some of you seem to be missing is that there’s a way to be just as effective by knowing how to land after jumping through the roof. He can’t be the great player we all think he’ll be if he’s injured.

All you have to do is look at how some of the best jumpers in the league cushion themselves after they jump. LeBron is a great example. The impact on their knees has got to be 50% or less than that of Griffin’s landings.

What’s almost as scary to me is that sometimes Griffin seems to not care about what’s happening below. He’s going to land on his neck or head one of these days.

  • jahearndc

Kap – I don’t see Stoudemire comparison. That’s almost an insult to Griffin. His court vision, defense and tenacity make Barkley a much better comparison than Stoudemire.

  • Michael

Kid is good…real good, very impressed with his debut.

  • Oli

if dwight is the best rook since bron, how come he didn’t win r.o.y.? just a thought…

  • jahearndc

Seems really strange to me that people are bringing up Dwight Howard in this conversation. He just hasn’t got it done, and has had plenty of time to prove he’s one of the best. He isn’t. Great rebounder and shot-blocker, but this Griffin kid has it all.

  • rapsfan43

Ya, I agree with jahearndc, D12 doesn’t have the same game as Blake, but after watching those workouts he did with Dream, if he develops something close to a dream shake Dwight will be unstoppable. The same could be said for J Smoove. He can get to the tin at will but I’ll give him the three all day long. Blake can shoot a bit better and has a huge inside presence, if only eric gordon could get going constantly :( …..Kaman,Al-Faruq,Blake,Gordon and Kyrie Irving at the point (after he wins a title at DUKE this year) and the Clipz will be LEGIT!
