Video: Kobe: I’d Beat LeBron 1-on-1

While helping launch the London School of Basketball, Kobe was asked who would win 1-on-1 between him and LeBron. Thanks to Hoopsfix, we have Mamba’s answer on tape. “I’d win, I’d win,” Kobe said. “That’s what I do. One on one is..that’s easy for me, you know. Playing 1-on-1 is how I grew up playing, it’s like my thing. LeBron is more like a Magic Johnson — he’s a great passer and plays an all around game. At the core of me, I’m a 1-on-1 player. I’d do that in my sleep.”

COCAINE IS A HELL OF A DRUG!!!

I knew JTaylor was gonna be the first to comment

  • logues

i knew Blackphantom was gonna be the first to comment about JTaylor

  • The Philosopher

    Although Kobe MAY be correct…
    The King is still better.

  • Blackphantom

@logues…..i don’t understand your logic, im almost never the first one to comment about Jtaylor, it’s always someone else like, hmmmm The Seed or Jukai

  • RL

    Real Kings have rings…

    Truth!

  • Blackphantom

    Co-sign RL

  • JTaylor21

Real kings don’t get carried to rings.

  • Blackphantom

What kinda King has no Ring whatsoever??

  • The Philosopher

    LONG… LIVE… THE KING!

  • The Philosopher

The type of king that doesn’t even need a ring.

  • VisionofGreatness

There are going to be a lot of comments on this one by people who think they really know who the better player is. The people who truly know are the ones they play against. All we do is sit and watch. It’s a different game when you’re playing it.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I remember when Vince Carter was considered the undisputed best one-on-one player in the league by his peers…
    So what’s the value?

  • Slic ric

In a 1-on-1 today, Lebron would win relatively easy, but if this was about five years ago I’d probably go wit Kobe.

  • Blackphantom

Man, get your mouth off of LBJ’s you-know-what. You’re comments prove you’ve been choking on it for a ridiculous amount of time and it doesn’t look like you’ll ever stop

  • VisionofGreatness

Can’t disagree with what he said though. When people discuss these two, they always say LeBron is more of a Magic than Michael. Everyone says LeBron is the better passer, Kobe admits that. So there’s really no argument with what he said. LeBron plays a better all around game, Kobe’s a better one on one player.

  • Blackphantom

that comment is directed at the philosopher btw

  • VisionofGreatness

When was VC considered the best one on one player? lol. Fill me in on that one.

  • Blackphantom

Yeah I agree, Kobe’s more of a scorer, Lebron’s more of a passer

  • http://622GingerBerryRd30578 T.C

1 on 1 no fouls? No i’m a fan of neither…but i’d have to say LeBron. 6’8 250 coming at you full speed with no Gasol or Bynum behiend you?

  • Blackphantom

But then again, LBJ is basically a Linebacker-DE with basketball skills, so it’s hard to guess, i’d have to see it

  • The Philosopher

    @Blackphantom:
You’ve already stated that you are 10 years old. (especially in the mind)
I did not believe you until now. It is the weekend, so I guess you are up late.
Being that you are so young, I will not humiliate you.
As far as your inner fantasies are concerned, as we’ve established, you are a young pubescent. Many in your position have those such fantasies.
You are not in the minority.
Me, I do not think of those things in any way at any time.
    Period.
    I do not judge you.

  • JTaylor21

It would be like Pau Gasol having to guard Prime Shaq. Too strong, too fast, too quick, and too athletic. In one on one it’s harder to guard a beast when there’s no backup behind you.

  • Blackphantom

@The Philosopher I’m 16 years old. And, truthfully, you humiliate yourself the way you talk about your so-called “King” like he is God. With all your b.s. poems and crap. It’s rather sad and pathetic, how you worship LBJ like he’s the greatest human being who has ever lived. You talk about him like he has touched you in some awesome, emotional way. He is no religious figure, nor does he live up to his NICKname in the championship department. Just stop it

  • tato

Now in this moment (2009-2010), the battle between the mamba vs the lions, the winner is the lion but the cost is very high…

  • http://www.kylestack.com Kyle Stack

Maybe LeBron would make like Kobe did and answer before the interviewer had a chance to finish the question….but that is a distinct difference between Kobe and Bron. Kobe takes pleasure in being cold-blooded. It’s who he is. Bron isn’t built that way, at least not on the court. He talks like he is but he’s admitted in the past (to ESPN Mag) that he’s not a killer on the court. Kobe is and has never wavered. The best one-on-one player has to have that mentality. Although AllenP brings up a good point…what’s that really worth?

  • Blackphantom

Well, when it comes to Animals yes a Lion would kill a Black Mamba, unless the Mamba is tactful enough

  • Blackphantom

But one-onone, hmmmmm Kobe’ll probably win that

  • Blackphantom

But Lebron-Kobe 1-on-1 is very debatable

  • The Philosopher

    16?
Point still stands. Even the puberty point.
Poems? They are quotes, and they are not mine. They are b.s.? Why do you read them? That makes you “b.s.” x2, no?
I do not worship The King, I just state some facts and some opinions regarding him, as well as you do.
So, now you are “b.s.” x3, no?
And, you should relax with this “touching” in an awesome way, and these other homosexual tendencies you are speaking of. I told you that that is YOUR deal. That is not my specialty OR expertise. I cannot aid you in that.
One more thing. I’ve never humiliated myself in my entire life. I can continue to humiliate you if you would like, though.

  • MikeC.

1 on 1 is a ridiculous debate considering they both play a team game. However, if it came down to a 1 on 1, I’d put Starbury up against anyone. Handles, finishing at the rim, range and solidly built. And that’s coming from a true Knicks fan who would love to run Marbury over with his SexMobile.

  • Robb

Kobe will always answer he’d be the winner. Against Lebron, against MJ, against anybody, he thinks he can defeat anybody, that’s why he is the player he is.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

Kobe knows a million ways to beat a defender, its the reason he’s been able to perform at this high a level this long. Lebron is a great player, but 1-on-1, halfcourt against Kobe he’s absolutely rendered futile, along with anyone else in this league.

  • Blackphantom

@The Philosopher…..I didn’t even use touching as a sexual preference, that term can be used for a different way(i.e. “You really touched me with that statement.” or “This man’s accomplishments really touch my heart.”, seems that your mind is too far in the gutter to realize that. And yes those quotes are complete b.s. If he was the actual king, there wouldn’t be any competitors in the past or present that outdid him in anything now would they? If he was really king, he’d be called GOAT with no questioning. Does any of of this happen? No. He sadly doesn’t even have a Championship in the NBA to his name. You’re really sad. Especially considering you’re hmmm in you’re 20s at least. I REALLY hope you’re not older than that, are you?

  • http://www.dimemag.com Royal

LOL in a One-on-One game like this it would really depend on who gets ball first……….

  • The Philosopher

    @Blackphantom:
I was not going to do it… but I’m now going to expose you contradictions AND hypocrisies.
So, you are essentially saying that those whom have “outdid” The King in the past or present are kings? If you are, you are practicing hypocrisy.
No “king” has ever outdone another “king”? I beg to differ.
    I’m “sad”?
Well, according to your comments, one can construe that YOU, in fact are sad AND disgruntled.
    Anyways…

  • The Philosopher

    I own you.

I don’t have a beef with him. Just having fun.

  • Red

Long live King Kobe. You can debate it, but in the end Kobe is King.

  • The Philosopher

    Kobe’s A king.
    LeBron is… THE KING.

  • http://slamonline Negetivekreep

@ allenp: uhh Defense,08′MVP,rings #4 and #5,two finals mvps? (all feats he accomplished as the udisputed one on one best) If thats not considered value, i dont know what is. Are you imlying that being the undisputed best one on one player had nothing to do with those achievements? Or simply that the opinion of his peers is of no value? Because Vince Carter historically does not belong in the same conversation as “bean” Bryant.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

one on one, ron artest would beat bron and bean. BOOK THAT, HOES

  • http://slamonline Negetivekreep

    @Phil, whats good dunnie?
I must admit your whole Bron King thing is hard to argue. Right now, Everyone including the Black Mamba, is living in Brons world. He controls ESPN and the media “like a king” Hell, he’s changed the NBA forever with “the decision” and the way future superstars make thier decisions. That being said, in all honesty i dont think thier has or ever will be any competition from Kobe for “the crown”. To me, kobe has always come across as a mercenary, a hit man, loner type of guy focused soley on playing. But never too much as a buisiness man,or commercial figure/ poster boy. His shoes do well to demonstrate this…lol.

  • http://www.simonlawy.vemma.com Simon Lawy

    That’s dope !!! That’s THE KING KOBE

  • http://slamonline Negetivekreep

@Tarzan: Not sure you thought that one out player.

  • The Philosopher

    @Negetivekreep:
    Just enjoying life, brethren. You?
Yeah, the whole LeBron thing is pioneering, as you’ve pointed out. Even from day one.
Well, I guess I’ll retire for the night.
    It is morning now, but…
    Stay safe brethren.

  • hangtime Hec

I remember when I got uptight with The Philosopher and his phrase ” Long Live The King.” I just find it humorous now. haa.
