Video: Ray Allen Breaks Three-Point Record

An absolutely electric moment in Boston last night, as Ray Allen broke Reggie Miller’s record for most career three-pointers:

Ray was tearing up at the end right there. A great player and a great person. Purest shooter to ever play the game.

  • tRay

It was great to have him break the record and to see Reggie and Miller give him props big ups to Reggie for not being a sour old legend like Julius Erving

  • tRay

    *Kobe sorry lol

    Everyone get outta your seats!

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Did you see him sitting in the stands wearing that Moe (of the 3 stooges) wig? Oh, wait, that was his mom?!?! All jokes aside, Im happy for Allen.

    Moving. Thank you Ray.

Well deserved, is there actually one Ray Allen hater out there?

  • logues

top 5 fav player of all time, this guy is so humble and so deserving, greatest and purest shooter ever i hope they get another chip this year. theres 3 things ill never get tired of seeing: an mj fadeaway, a vince carter windmill, and a ray allen three pointer

i’m not so sure this record will ever be broken. someone would have to do what he did, which was work really, really hard and shoot really well and very prolifically for a long, long time. that means shooting off the dribble, coming off screens, in transition, etc. i’m not sure there are any young guys in the league who can do all that, although steph curry may develop into that kind of shooter.

  • robb

Congrats to Ray, my favorite player on the team I hate the most. Best shooter ever.

The prettiest stroke in the NBA. Made it look effortless. Congratulations to Ray Allen – I won’t call him Jesus Shuttlesworth this time because this moment, like the record, is all his.

  • vtrobot

in a word: beautiful. @ lightsout: i’ve been wondering the same thing the past couple days but have been too busy/lazy to look it up. are there any youngsters on track to get close to whatever ray’s gonna end up with?

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

    Cosign Cho.

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lightsout

don’t think so, vtrobot. if you’re interested, here’s the wikipedia entry on the top 50 on the 3′s made list. most people on the list are either retired or close(ish) to it.

  • Bravo

when i watched this I was like when I MAKE THE NBA IM WILL BEAT UR RECORD RAY RAY! U WATCH BOIIIII!

  • vtrobot

@ lightsout: yeah, seems like someone like curry might have a small chance, but he’d better get on a team that plays some playoff games on occasion. odds are, the person that breaks it isn’t in the L yet. maybe they haven’t been born yet. it will be the 2nd coming of jesus. praise be!

  • vtrobot

@ Bravo: I hope you typed that in between practice shots. Good luck.

What’s with him setting records on Kobe’s watch the past two seasons?? lol.
Anyways, a great moment in NBA History.
Shout out to his mother. She’s seen some drama in her life as well. Very few mothers support their children the way Ray Allen’s mother does. She made sure that he wasn’t going to fall through the cracks.

Thats what i like about the NBA because even Kobe said something nice. Props to Allen

  • Trevor

I HIGHLY doubt anyone is ever gonna break this record. Hes gonna be playing for too much longer.

  • http://ballislife.com Stephon

One of the best three point shooter’s of all time. What a well deserved accolade

  • http://slamonline.com fut.

Time for a Damon Jones comeback to take the record away.

  • greg

Big ups to shuttlesworth. I wonder is there any other player now that is similar to his style? the only other wing player i see who has any resemblance of what ray does is kevin martin, apart from that i think using screens to score is pretty much dead in the nba

Overrated player, did nothing for Bucks or Sonics as the team leader, now all of a sudden he is a great player, LOL. Great players are not thrown around like rag-dolls(traded) when they can play a little bit. I don’t like Ray and he will continue to play as a 3rd wheel and just shoot threes, I feel sorry for Reggie that he lost the record to this type of player, who shoots his team out of games and depends on threes to much. Reggie was the star of his team getting this record. Ray has turned into a 3rd wheel who just shoots threes to try to stay in Hero mode. Poor Reggie.

so… for no particular reason, i’m wondering if there’s a way i can filter out certain commenters… you know, since i don’t value anything they have to say and never want to be exposed to their mindless thoughts again… can anyone help me make it happen?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Well deserved. One of my all-time favorite ball players. Reggie congratulating Ray is a great moment for basketball.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    @ Max… Meet The Seed.
    lightsout obviously has.

@vtrobot DEAD SERIOUS! when you guys see “BRAVO” on the back of an NBA JERSEY youll witness when I beat RAY ALLENS 3 POINTS MADE in less than 14 years thats how long it took him. Ill do it in about 5 seasons of the NBA. JUSS WATCH U DAMN HATERS!

  • Jose

The question now is What’s the record going to be at when Ray Ray Hangs em up. . .

  • anti-crust

Kobe gave him “congrats” as he walked back onto court from Reggie Miller…that’s kind of interesting, because, the 2 guys Kobe has had significant scuffles with in his career were Ray Allen and Reggie Miller….

  • vtrobot

@ Bravo: I wasn’t hating, man. I said good luck, ’cause that’s a heck of a record that you’re going to have to beat. And I seriously hope you’re in the gym right now. I don’t think Ray spent a lot of time posting comments on websites. You’re going to average about 7 made 3′s per game for 5 years? I will definitely keep my eyes open for that. Like Ray, you will become one of my favorite players. Just stay humble like Jesus. @ The Seed: I don’t get all of the negative Ray posts during the last week. Reggie was amazing, but the dude who just surpassed him? ahhh, he’s not that good. What sense does that make? C’mon, show some respect for a legend and one of the hardest working and classiest people in the L.

  • Elvis Freshly

Lmao @ seed.. dude is butt hurt, keep it moving.

  • word

    lol he travelled

  • greg

reggie didnt retire as a star so many of his 3s were as a third wheel to jackson and jermaine, so im not really sure its very different nobody can be a great for their whole career. reggie did acomplish more as a lone wolf than ray allen, but neither of them got deep in the playoffs until they had someone else take over the role of first option

  • Jalepino Sauce

word word : Yeah , Props to Jesus . He’s gonna smash that ish hopefully.

  • Jalepino Sauce

but he does travel alot on those :-) LOL
