Buzzer Beaters and Great Games Galore

March Madness has Arrived!

This is why we love March.

On the night prior to the unveiling of this year’s 68 Tournament participants (the NCAA expanded the field—again), teams battled for births and seeds. And while college ball is always good ball, it becomes great when Tournament births (automatic and at-large) are on the line.

Saturday provided further proof of that. Here’s just a little sample.

On the East Coast, in a one-game playoff for the Ivy League’s automatic NCAA spot, Princeton defeated Harvard on a marvelous buzzer beater.

In the Carolinas, Harrison Barnes dropped 40 points on Clemson, helping UNC win in overtime. The W earned the Tar Heels a chance to play Duke in the ACC Tournament final.

In Cleveland, the Akron Zips defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes on the strength of two late free throws. (A solid ending was tarnished, though, by this little skirmish that took place right after the final buzzer sounds)

And on the West Coast, as the video below shows, Washington’s Isaiah Thomas calmly sank a difficult buzzer beater, sending Washington to the NCAA Tournament with the Pac-10′s automatic bid.

And this was just the conference tourneys. Can’t wait 4 next week. Luv the upsets. As long as my heels don’t get knocked out that is. Haha. I luv nba and the playoffs, but March Madness is far and away better. Hands down!

Other memorable buzzer beaters: Bryce Drew vs Mississippi, James Forrest vs USC, Tyus Edney vs Mizzou, Mike Miller vs Butler. Just 2 name a few

Barnes was dominant. The dude is ridiculously clutch, can’t even believe how good he is at closing games now.

Co-sign omphalos. He’s coming n2 his own. I just hope he sticks around 4 @ least 1 more season. @ least. UNC and the dookies 4 that ACC title. Go heels

Kemba Walker left his mark at the WMFA in the 2011 Big East Tournament. Is there a hotter team entering the NCAA Tourney right now than UCONN? I think not. There is talk of UCONN getting a 3 seed, but I think they’ll get a 4 seed…the regular season matters too. I hope the selection committee puts UCONN in a bracket where the #1 seed isn’t a Big East team.
