Video: Blake Griffin’s Monster Dunk, That Didn’t Count

Marcin Gortat should thank his lucky stars, because sometimes, NBA refs let silly “rules” get in the way of amazing highlight plays. *Sigh*:

Yeah, it was a charge and it should be called more often, Blake Griffin or not.

  • Monster

    Best non play ever!!!

  • Jason Peck

If you dunk on someone, it shouldn’t be a charge. I don’t care if the guy is standing under the basket or 6 feet away.

  • marc

    lol at hakim warrick

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling chiqo

the tech at the end was unnecessary. how dare he be emotional.

  • marc

I’m not mad at the charge call. I’m more mad on how easily a tech can be given. smh

  • spit hot fiyah

    @marc yes lol

  • estoniandude

    thats like a travel-violation.

  • Lazarus

    holly bejebuzz

Both the charge and the tech are horrible calls. On the charge, gortat got their too late to set ANYTHING up to take the charge. He just threw his body at him (you can see that he was on his toes trying not to touch the line that he STILL touched). On the tech, come on now you give him a horrible call and he gets offended by it and then you kick him when he’s down smfh @ refs today, they better rescind that technical

  • Elvis Freshly

another blake dunk, what else is new

  • Lloyd

@Riggs. Pause at 0:14. It’s a charge. Only case you can make against it is that he put his forearms into Blake’s body.

And c’mon let’s be serious here. As bad as the new rule is that gives players techs for next to nothing, it’s still the rule now. Players have gotten techs for a LOT less than running with the ball to half court and crying after a call. Not to mention almost steamrolling Stickman Warrick in the process!

Speaking of which, Hakim trying to play off how much that accidental shove by Blake affected him was hillarious!

  • bnets

    Hakim Warrick still LOL

  • http://nba.com EJ

That’s not a charge. You can see that Gortat’s feet aren’t planted.

  • sounddust

Blake Griffin does not give a fark. And Warrick’s a jellyfish flopping in the wind like an Angry Bird.

  • Sherif23

Uh, did anybody else notice that he travelled? Now THAT is a call that needs to be made more often.

  • Kadavour

i’d join the line to slurp this man as many of you are if that was a dunk. it wasn’t. fancy layup though.

  • jay

The duded jumped with blake so it’s no charge!

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

No way thats a charge. Gortat was moving the whole time. They need to get rid of that charge/block line and stop bailing out the referees. A charge is a judgment call, it can’t be called based on that line. Not so sure about the travel though.

  • tRay

Reminds me of that time he did a monster put back slam on Odom and they called a foul

  • Far

If you watch the under-the-basket view you’ll see the Gortat’s foot is inside the circle. They showed it in the game

Javie. . . takes candy from children and then fines them for complaining.

  • http://www.twitter.com/gerardhimself Gerard Himself

The charge? Good call. The tech? Ridiculous.

  • Hursty

    Hakim Warrick…. lol.

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com Dutch Rich

Highly suspect. You have impact at 0 degrees and Gortat ends up at a -45 degree angle on the floor.

  • Brown14

Does it not count as a monster dunk because of the charge, or because he threw it in like Dwight in the dunk contest?

  • pioms

Gortat never stopped moving, his foot is on the line and he stuck his arms out in front of him in to Blake.

    Awful call.

  • pioms

Dudes who can’t jump need to get out the way. Simple as that.

GTFO Gortat, be an athlete and jump or get out the way. This is basketball not bowling.

  • http://counterkicks.com Quinned

Ok if the League wants to start calling charges they have to be consistent. That JR smith dunk a while a go was clearly a charge but wasn’t called because he almost jumped over the guy as was the case here. Consistency… the refs just don’t have it

  • frugtjuice

People complaining about players taking chargers need to stfu.. If you dont like the charge call, go watch slamball or something.. Taking a charge is a beautiful part basketball if performed correctly..

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

Someone refresh my memory – if both players are in the air when contact occurs it’s a charge foul? Is that right? That’s what happened in this video, so it must be, right?

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance21

@frugtjuice I think most people are complaining about the inconsistency of how its called.

  • Anonymosdef

The Mozgov Massacre set the bar. People will never again be truly impressed with any of his dunks until he starts climbing the few mountains of shotblocking in the world. He has to put them all on posters and he will. Bynum, Howard. Josh Smith when he is coming from the weak side and anyone on the Heat. Make it happ

  • Anonymosdef

(cont.) en Sterling! I predict Blake will jump over Javale McGee one day when he is 1 block short of a triple double so that he can patty for his sins against basketball. This dunk will occur on December 20, 2012 which will start the chain of events leading to the third mass recorded sighting of aliens and when the aliens see said dunk they will spare mankind

  • mannyec0409

Blake Griffin is an absolute beast…as a matter of fact, beast is an understatement. The dunk was so nasty that even Warrick was laughing at Gortat bahaha!

  • ripslam

Was pretty clearly a charge. Plus, Nate Robinson got hit with a tech for giving the ref a stankeye a while back, so under the new “rules” the T was nothing out of the ordinary either.

  • Klemperer

That wasn’t a dunk a charge or a tech. (But it was awesome.)

  • jay

    LOL at Hakim Warrick

  • wilz

there shouldnt b charges at a certain height. i only believe in charges along the ground or as you elevate

  • OvaChicken

The White Mamba is 4 real. He aint afraid of getting in front of the illest dunker of this year. If that was Amare there would be no highlite coz he would have ran out the way like a little beeehatch.

  • http://joei.com JOE

All you fools calling it a charge, look at the 2nd replay where you can see that Gortat quite clearly jhumps with Blake (rules stating that both feet be planted for it to be a charge) the call is wrong plus gortat is a 1/4 second late. The T is B.S, the refs just got sesitive because they know they just got a call horribly wrong. With the technology they have these days being able to review the play this shouldnt happen. Anybody calling that a charge after seing the second replay are obviously Blake haters or one of those kids that could never even get the backboard!

  • al

i saw this live at staples, the video does not do this man justice

  • pnightmare

  • Yesse

What the heck is Hakim Warrick laughing at?

  • William

The refs have to make a judgement call without any replays, we can’t make up our minds after several.

  • http://yahoo frank

@Sherif23 it wasn’t a travel your aloud to take 2 steps then but if its more than 2 steps its a travel

He is SUPER disrespectful for even trying that ish! LIFE ISNT A VIDEOGAME BLAKE GRAVITY IS REAL, OBEY IT! lol
