Video: Stan Van Gundy Shows Off His Handles

Wait, what?

If Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy knows only one thing, it’s basketball. Van Gundy played four years of Division III college basketball at SUNY-Brockport and has worked his way up to a head man in the League. Here’s Van Gundy teaching kids at the Orlando Magic basketball camp; from the crossover to the through-the-legs dribble to a behind-the-back dribble and spin move, Stan has it on lock.

Would have never thought in a million years that SVG could handle the rock.

Why wasn’t he drafted by New York a few years back?

  • Mike

WOOOOOW!!! I truly cannot believe what I just saw.

  • bike

The name of his camp is ‘Fat men can’t dribble’.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Why is anyone surprised he knows how to play basketball….he’s an NBA coach. Whether he made it too the league is irrelevant, IMO you have to have atleast played sport at some competitive level for at least a few years to truly understand the game and how it works at a level high enough to coach.

^^but kinda can. He’s got a decent handle.

  • robb

    not bad really

  • AMPduppp

I go to SUNY Brockport and it kills me the amount of people that had no idea he graduated from there…

  • doyouwantmore

Van Gundy with the ball on a string! LOL I’m impressed, but not surprised.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

He doesn’t look quite as plump as he normally does in a suit on the sidelines.

  • logues

nbk: i think ppl are just impressed that he can spread his fat a$$ legs wide enough to get the ball thru his legs

He does look like he lost some lbs. Or maybe he’s just one of those stumpy guys with skinny legs. Either way, those dribble moves were textbook. lol.

  • http://www.fullc0urtpress.com KHoliday

He already looks better than Chris Duhon… Yall need to go pee in a fountain at the same time somewhere so you guys can switch lives!

  • drdunkenstein

Now we need JVG to step up and show his handles too!

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

If he would dribble on his foot or something he would be pissed of at the ball I think.

  • Heals

Whoa alomost signed in as PapaSmurf (You may wanna be on the lookout for impostas). JVG was carrying on during one telecast about how SVG would need to hit 100 FT’s straight before leaving the gym…

  • http://www.slamonline.com blackvictory23

    very impressed

stan just showed he has better dribbles than arenas…lol at bike

  • http://www.twitter.com/gerardhimself Gerard Himself

  • alex80

Hey Stan!! Can you handle the truth???

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

See the thing is… dribbling isn’t the Orlando Magics problem…. it’s passing. Into the post. To Dwight. Show them that play Stan.

Stan Big Nasty Handles van Gundy

  • jumpman22

  • Aizen

I’ll bet SVG can shoot tons of three-pointers, cause that’s all his team could do last season…

  • T-Money

haha, he actually has decent handles. and he lost TONS of weight, there were a few articles about it last season – the doctors told him that he could not go on like this.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Is that Skip to my Lou, he got handles, the funny thing he would probably beat have the people calling him fat to the rim. I have seen it before. It doesn’t matter how big you are. If you can dribble and got handles you can get by anyone go watch the late great Escalade from AND1. BOOK IT!!!

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

The Best Handles Ever is Hot Sauce.
    Watch and learn

  • Marco

    the new god shammgod

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

    Nimble, nimble, SVG.
Not bad. Pretty textbook handle there, impressive.
If any issue at all, it’s his high bounce at low speed, but a ton of Guards in the Pro’s dribble higher than i was taught.
Nice Vid, inside look into the world of the pro’s.

  • Danny_W_UK

Damn man, JWill has let himself go…….

  • William

lol it sounds like a lady was very impressed at the end!

  • Trout

I will never look at that dude the same again … I think I sprained my eyes…

  • Jred Schott

Is this real life? Seriously did not expect to see that in this link. I respect him a lil more now. lol

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

It wasn’t that long ago that going between your legs and around your back was considered “jungle ball.” Now those are the fundamentals.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ 1982

I saw this on a bar TV last night with no sound, and was wondering what the hell was happening. Really, not bad at all. He can’t beat Doc Rivers in a footrace, but he can play.

  • LP

Definitely worthy of a shoutout from SHAMMGOD…elite skills. impressive

  • Riggs

cosign allen. Also skip at his prime > hot sauce.

  • jufu
