Video: Derrick Williams Dunks on Two High Schoolers

It’s the summer (during a lockout, no less), so NBA players are going up against inferior competition all the time. It just so happens that they’re still NBA players with amazing athletic gifts, such as the Timberwolves’ draft pick Derrick Williams, as these two poor young chaps at the Elite 24 learned.

If you needed to know if you were ready for the NBA lil man, Derrick Williams just reminded you what’s waiting-and he’s never played 1 NBA minute! lol

Man amongst boys, keep showing Dave Stern what he’s missing this season!

  • LP

yea…cleveland is missing out…tf was they thinking…they coulda got him and Brandon Knight… worst 1st and 4th pick selections ever…

  • LP

(Brandon knight/Kemba Walker and Derrick Williams) vs. (Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson)….who you got??????

  • Feez22

Kyrie irving has more nba potential than derrick williams. To pass up kyrie would have been foolish to say the least. When derrick starts playing he will be just another athlete. The SF position in the nba is filled with athleticism so really… just another flash in the pan. Kyrie is a technical PG that can shoot and score efficiently… Total package. The nba usually doesn’t have PG’s that come in the league that can do that. John wall was the passer type that couldn’t shoot. Rose was the scoring type who couldn’t pass or shoot from the perimeter that well. kyrie can pass and shoot well. Derrick is like a slower iguodala with a jumper.

I think kyrie was a good pick but what the he’ll were they thinking when they pick Thompson 4th?! Cavs front office is lost without LeBron telling them what to do lol. Williams is straight nasty though.

  • LP

LeBron made the call to select Tristan….

  • B-More Mike

Mitch Mcgary on the 2nd poster.

It’s not yet determined in he’ll play the 3 or 4. He played the 4 in college but per him, his game is more suited to the 3. Considering he’s 6’8″ and Beasley/Love are on the team, he’ll likely get more minutes at the 3. The Cavs made the right choice with picking Kyrie over Williams. Against smaller/inferior competition, williams is a beast at the 4, but even in college when he played agaisn’t the better 4 (Like Tristan) they pretty much limited him – not quite shut him down, but he certainly didn’t look that good. I the pro’s he’ll go against Tristan+ level everyday at the 4 spot, and I don’t know if he’s quick enough or has a good enough shot to play the 3 spot in the NBA, so although he looks good in this video and he has a nice highlight reel from college, I’m honestly not expecting him to be too good in the NBA. I might use the word ‘bust’ even, but don’t want to go that far. Yet.

    @Unfrozen Caveman Gimp
Seriously, dude, you’re very irritating… He’s gonna play the 3, fact. Who could he beat out, Beasley or Love? Tough one !
And you know caps lock doesn’t have to be on all the time right?
Looks like you’re shouting your idiocy for all the world to hear, maybe you lost brain cells when you were unfrozen ?

Just cause the kid played a 4 in college doesn’t mean he’s gonna be a 4 in the L.
Otherwise Shane Battier and countless other NBA SF’s would be playing PF.
And if he does play the 4, he’ll get eaten alive.
Can you imagine this 6’8” kid trying to play against Pau Gasol, Kevin Garnett, Chris Bosh, etc.? He won’t be backing them down in the post or beating them off the dribble the way he was against slow 6’6”, 220 pound college “power forwards”.
And he can forget about trying to guard them, too.

  • ATribefan92

Williams will play at SF. The only time he will play PF is when the Wolves play against a smaller/uptempo team where Love will play at C, Williams at PF, and Beasley at SF.

Playing against the Lakers, Darko/Anthony Randolph at C, Love at PF, Beasley/DW at SF.

Williams does believe he’s a SF and he’s trimming down as well as adding to his game to prove he can play that position at a high level consistently for over +25 minutes.

Will he play minutes at PF? Yes. Does that make him strictly a PF? No.

  • the rod

Best NBA comparison for Derrick Williams? Wilson Chandler.

  • bike

He may play at the 3 possibly the 4 if against smaller team with a small 5 and/or a big 3. If against a big 5 and medium 3 he will probably play the 3 most of the time and then 4 the rest. He thinks he’s a 4 but unless he works hard he may have to live with the 3 unless against bigger team with average 5 and small 3 or same size team with small 5 or small 3. If against fast team with big 3,4, and 5 he will probably sit most of the time and sub in the 3 unless 2 is small then he might see some 4 time.

  • Patrick

is that Brandon Jennings passing it to him?

  • logues

    get off me whiteboy!

  • T-Money

I hope he plays the 3, he’s got a solid bag of tricks. They need to keep him there full time and just ship Beas out. There are countless of NBA swingmen that were 4s in college… Wilson Chandler, Q-Rich, Luke Walton, Rudy Gay, Tayshaun Prince, Gerald Wallace, …

  • Jono

These guys are unreal. Played against Nene the other day and realized the gap between a pro and some amateur who rates himself pretty highly is oceans apart.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Slick Ric

kyrie is overrated and derrick Williams will be much better.

  • http://www.dunkingblog.com/ I’m Dunking

Yeah, I thought Kyrie is overrated but, as a Timberwolves fan, maybe that is my bias talkin
