Videos: Best of Rasheed Wallace

Honoring one of the L’s most entertaining players on his 37th birthday.

by Abe Schwadron / @abe_squad

What is there to say about Rasheed Wallace? Over a 15-year career he brought his brash attitude to four different NBA cities (well, five, if you count one game in Atlanta), developed a reputation as one of the game’s most historic hotheads, spawned a popular blog in his honor and even had a memorable name-drop on Season 1 of Chappelle’s Show.

Oh, and he could ball, too. A McDonald’s All-American out of high school, Wallace took his talents to Chapel Hill to play for UNC and coach Dean Smith. Two years later, Sheed went No. 4 overall to Washington in 1995, and went on to score more than 15,000 points, earn four All-Star bids in the ’00s and win an NBA title in 2004 with Detroit.

The outspoken Philly native will go down as one the League’s most legendary trash talkers and a referee’s worst nightmare. Wallace’s 304 career technical fouls are an NBA record, and he also holds the single-season mark with 41 in ’00-01. But on his birthday, all is forgiven. Sheed turns 37 today, and in honor of the recently retired big man, enjoy some of his most entertaining and impressive on-camera moments, compiled in the gallery above.

I was never a fan of Sheed’s on court antics.
But dude could play, and from all accounts (except maybe Sabonis’s,
he was a hell of a teammate.
Damn, he ruined Nas’ verse off Verbal Intercourse though (which was originally a verse off a song off his demo called “Deja Vu”)

I had to look at video #4(0:22) again, because I realized Sheed shot that turnaround jumper with his left hand. All of his teammates used to talk about how talented and gifted Sheed was as a player. Imagine what type of player Sheed could have been if he ever possessed a killer instinct.

lolol ref totally overreacted on #2. if you scared, say you scared.

It’s interesting the reaction white people have to jean shorts. Like they are totally cool in the black community, but apparently they have a stigma with white folks.

    Always wanted to know this:

What the heck is that white spot on his head?

As a Detroit fan I always had a love/hate relationship with Sheed…when he was on, he was ussually the best player on the court, but he took plays/games/weeks off sometimes and that drove me nuts. That combined with his unselfishness and not wanting to be “the guy” always made me think he could have been so much more as a player. He had so much talent. Still, I can’t help but love the dude…”both teams played hard”

if there is one player who I would like to see an autobiography of, it’s Sheed. A tell all book from his days as a youngster, and all the ins and outs of the NBA that he now can speak freely about.

  • Brian

    God bless and good night.

  • Bojangles
