Video: Deron Williams Scores 50 Points in Turkey

50 points (on 17/23 shooting, including 7 from deep) in an 104-95 victory for Besiktas over Gottingen. Let’s just say that things are working out OK for DWill in Turkey.

  • AD Posted: Nov.23 at 9:53 am
I cant wait to seee Dwight and DWILL in brooklyn.

  • marc Posted: Nov.23 at 9:57 am
He sucks but yal watching him. Grow up. best LEGIT pg

  • rich Posted: Nov.23 at 10:00 am
natty u do know d will has had to 40 point games in the nba right? I dont think pgs who suck usually do that

  • Overtime Posted: Nov.23 at 10:01 am
Lol. Makes you sound like such an idiot to say he sucks. Maybe you dont like him, but its obvious he doesn’t suck. I don’t like Miami, but I don’t go around calling them a lottery team

  • GP23 Posted: Nov.23 at 10:05 am
Yes, he is the best pg in Europe without question…But in the NBA? I would say he is the top 3 or 4.

  • neilrizo Posted: Nov.23 at 10:07 am
Best PG in the league, most definitely. But one measly assist? Not the D-Will that I know.

  • nbaNw8 Posted: Nov.23 at 10:31 am
DWill is raw. he doing this with ease

  • YKnoT Posted: Nov.23 at 10:43 am
Where are all the international people who ragged on him for having a sub par first game? Talking all that Euro crap like the NBA ain’t still the premiere league for ballers!!!

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 10:54 am
He is the 2nd or 3rd best PG in the World, depending on your preference’s. H*ll he could be the best PG on earth right now, depending how his wrist healed up.

  • lawlow Posted: Nov.23 at 11:00 am
i completely forgot he went to turkey

  • Laumol Posted: Nov.23 at 11:10 am
So nice to see some basketball action. Looks like DWill realised that there wouldn’t be a season anytime soon.

  • dabigfundamental Posted: Nov.23 at 11:11 am
And in Euroleague the quarters are only 10 minutes long.
50 pts in a 40 min game, it doesn’t happen very often in Euroleague.

  • LA Huey Posted: Nov.23 at 11:16 am
A lot of that looked so effortless. And if we adjust for the fact that this was in a stat-unfriendly Euroleague game, was this like a 70 point game in the NBA?

  • dev0 Posted: Nov.23 at 11:20 am
new career high for him, but doesn’t count in NBA recordbooks. D-Will once scored 42 against OKC

  • NJ4Life Posted: Nov.23 at 11:21 am
Better shooter than Paul, better passer than Rose, better defender than Russell, and the best handles in the league.

  • Thomas Posted: Nov.23 at 11:23 am
As much as I like CP3 and Drose, Dwill is still the best PG in the game IMO.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 11:24 am
Oh dear. We got crazy New York fans. Bulls fans, Lakers fans, (and an ex Sonics Fan) and now a crazy Nets fan. yay

  • Kadavour Posted: Nov.23 at 11:27 am
no LA Huey, it was a 50 point game. 17/23 is 17/23. great shooting. good for 50 in any league.

  • trotsky182 Posted: Nov.23 at 11:28 am
driving at will my Turkish friends, driving at will.

  • Darksaber Posted: Nov.23 at 11:32 am
So effortless and he shot the ball SO well, 10-13 FG%, 7-10 on threes, 9-11 FT%!!!! Ridic.
Even though it was in the Eurochallenge comp. (3rd string european club competition), and against Göttingen, lowest ranked team in Germany’s BBL atm, that was some offensive outburst.
Besiktas is playing well in the turkish league, but they probably would have preferred a balanced offense to beat a bad BBL team.
And it seems Semih Erden broke a finger yesterday and will be out for a while too.
Deron might need more similar performances to keep the team afloat in the coming weeks.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 11:42 am
Hey Dark, how has Tony Parker been playing out in France? I heard he is the best player in the Euroleague, but that could just be a rumor, you seen anything, or got any news?

  • JBoogie Posted: Nov.23 at 11:46 am
The whole best pg in the league debate all just depends on your team need. Best scoring PG – D Rose. Best pass first PG – CP3. Best combo of the 2 – D Will. They are all great in their own right, just depends on what your team needs.

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Nov.23 at 11:46 am
dang….D’d him up pretty good too…had two men on him on almost every touch…treated it like childs play. Best scoring PG in the L no doubt, absolutely no doubt, might be the best scorer from the 1 since AI, but he’s still got a little bit of showing and proving till we go ahead and call him better than CP3. When CP3 got injured he lost his title, he came back played 80 games and earned it back….at least IMO…lets let DWill do the same……..END THIS FRIGGIN LOCKOUT NOW!!!! ughhhh

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Nov.23 at 12:01 pm
@NJ4Life…c’mon son, DWill ain’t touch CP3′s handle…nobody on the planet is

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Nov.23 at 12:01 pm
When did scoring 50pts vs inferior competition make someone the best PG in the world?

  • LA Huey Posted: Nov.23 at 12:02 pm
Kadavour, I meant if you adjusted for pacing and style of play. It’s like how during the era populated by Oscar, Russell, and Wilt, you want to consider the fact that the pace of the game was really fast when evaluating their stats. Also, there are 8 fewer minutes in a FIBA governed game than in the NBA. And from the (I’ll admit) limited number of Euroleague games I’ve seen, the pace is a bit slower than a typical regular season NBA game.

  • niQ Posted: Nov.23 at 12:03 pm
Man, is the rest of his team really that bad? 50 points and 1 assist. Definitely took things into his own hands. lol

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Nov.23 at 12:03 pm
Also, CP’s a better shooter than DWill (better from mid, 3 and FT).

  • JE Posted: Nov.23 at 12:08 pm
@JTaylor: it’s harder to score 50 points over there.

  • JE Posted: Nov.23 at 12:09 pm
    that said, CP3>Dwill

  • Gametimeweezy Posted: Nov.23 at 12:09 pm
impressive! them boys couldn’t hang with him

  • Darksaber Posted: Nov.23 at 12:12 pm
@nbk: Not quite. He’s playing for Asvel with Turiaf and Hilton Armstrong, and so far they haven’t been as dominant as expected. Nancy, Batum’s team, are league leaders and playin well. That’s the french league.
TP isn’t even playing in the Euroleague, the top continent-wide contest for bball. He’s in the 2nd tier Eurocup which just began a week ago. Tony Toné Toni was a BEAST in game one, utterlu unstoppable. They won game 1, then lost game 2 last night. Haven’t seen the game yet, have it on my DVR.
So in a nutshell, he remains a premier scoring PG, dominated the Euro’s in August but is up & down in the french league. (although they seem to have a very impressive roster)
My money for best PG playing over there right now is Deron, then Mccalebb followed closely by TP. Bo’s team is playing well in the EL and near the top in Italy ,plus he’s still a blur out there.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 12:13 pm
The competition he was playing is the equivalent to what you would get playing against a team like UC Santa Barbara. It’s really not that impressive. If he’s feeling it, and playing against people who aren’t in the same basketball stratosphere, it is only logical that he will put up video game numbers.

  • jibreel Posted: Nov.23 at 12:16 pm
Deron Williams scores 19 points in NBA.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 12:16 pm
Thanks for that Dark. I had no idea Tony’s team wasn’t in the premiere league. I have heard of Mccalebb but never seen him play that I remember.

  • Darksaber Posted: Nov.23 at 12:25 pm
If you saw any highlights of the European championship this september, Bo was the US-born PG for Macedonia, the surprise semifinalists that lost to Spain but gained a ton of fans cause they never let up. Fast, great hops, fearless, scorer.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Nov.23 at 12:28 pm
I said “he’s playing against lesser competition” not it’s harder to score 50pts in Euro because of the quarter lengths or the style of play.

  • Darksaber Posted: Nov.23 at 12:30 pm
I cringe to say this, but another PG KILLING it in the Euroleague so far: Spanoulis.
Olympiacos didn’t start well, but dude has been balling like a madman from say one. Upped his scoring too.
*ducks to avoid Greek-guy generated lightning*

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 12:32 pm
Oh ok yeah, he plays hard, reminds me of a young Speedy Claxton. I know exactly who that is.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 12:36 pm
Spanoulis has been playing pretty well ever since the 08 olympics hasn’t he?

  • Darksaber Posted: Nov.23 at 12:38 pm
Slam here’s an idea: get hold of international bloggers, reporters etc and get a running “Nba ballers abroad” segment going here. Enough players are playing in Europe, China and Australia etc to warrant following their (and their team’s) progress.
There are some great storylines progressing in Europe for example.
Euroleague: Thabo, AK47, Krstic, Batum, Farmar, Galinari, Ilyasova are having quite the impact. Eurocup/Eurochallenge: Parker and Deron are KILLING it in 2nd & 3rd tier comp (and in their team’s national leagues)
A version of TPU with weekly updates would be cool, maybe Adam could coordinate reports and summarize in a post.

  • Darksaber Posted: Nov.23 at 12:42 pm
Nbk: u got that right, although i don’t follow his career closely (hate his former team Panathinaikos) but he’s won the EL, the Greek league and cup, quite the run he’s had lately.
But never noticed him being a volume scorer until this season.

  • JE Posted: Nov.23 at 12:53 pm
then there wasn’t much of a point.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 12:55 pm
I just remember watching him use the pick & roll like a maestro during the olympics in 08 & during random and rare Euroleague games on NBATV. He has taken on a scorer role now?

  • AD Posted: Nov.23 at 12:57 pm
dwill avg 10+ asst with the NETSSSS…… how is he not the bet pg in the lg…… he may not be as flashy as cp3, drose, etccc but he will get the job done and break your ankles ….. cmon ppl open your eyes lol

  • Jason Heartly Posted: Nov.23 at 12:58 pm
1:15 WEIGHT ROOM. Strong core. Thats what that does for you.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 1:00 pm
Considering Chris Paul plays for a similarly talented team in New Orleans (less Talented imo) and has no problems with the team, or coaches, and still wins, I don’t think Williams stats with the Nets vault him to the top or anything. Especially considering he shot like 38%

  • Gametimeweezy Posted: Nov.23 at 1:05 pm
pump fake- let the defender sail past you- rise up and drain the 3 koofies is impressive in any country.. one assits, not so much.

  • GC6 Posted: Nov.23 at 1:07 pm
How are people saying D will sucks just because he cant stay with Rose Id say hes the third best PG in the leage after Paul then rose

  • Seth Posted: Nov.23 at 1:37 pm
    WHEEL-YUMS!

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 1:49 pm
Whoever said CP3 is a better shooter than D-Will needs to re-check allot of things they hold as truth in their life. Just not true.

  • spit hot fiyah Posted: Nov.23 at 1:59 pm
darksaber might be the only one here that knows what the euro lesgue actually is

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 2:34 pm
^It’s a basketball league right? Me and Darksaber know what the Euro League is.

  • yada Posted: Nov.23 at 2:42 pm
this look too easy. he is clearly far and away the best player out there. he looks faster and stronger than everyone else

  • blakos Posted: Nov.23 at 3:09 pm
Damn, he just torched that team.

  • @DEKNOWZ Posted: Nov.23 at 3:38 pm
    A man among boys.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 3:45 pm
Funny thing is he isn’t a crazy athlete or anything. He is just out playing everyone with his skills. I wouldn’t be surprised to see LeBron or Dwight or Blake Griffin dominate over there, but to see a dude who doesn’t have any more natural gifts then anyone else go out there and school cats like that is just fun to watch.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 3:52 pm
He’s a 6’4″ 220lb Point Guard. Who is also just as quick or moreso Than everyone else in the whole league he’s playing in. It’s safe to say his natural gifts are an advantage in every game.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 4:07 pm
Nope. It’s not a natural gift to weigh 220 pounds. It’s not unnatural to grow to 6’4″. He is average athlete at best. Purely he has just developed SKILLS that others do not have and will not have.

  • bigmike100 Posted: Nov.23 at 4:16 pm
Cp3? nah im goin wit rose, rondo, dwill, nd russ. chris paul aint really dat cold no mo afta he came bck frm injury

  • Max Posted: Nov.23 at 4:31 pm
I still think CP3 is the best PG, but I’m biased torwards him.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 5:20 pm
^No your not. Cause i’m not. He’s the best. It’s not by a wide margin that he is better than D-Will and D-rose though.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 5:37 pm
He has PG quickness and unmatched power. To go with his bigger size. Natural gifts.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.23 at 5:42 pm
Look how strong he is driving the lane. He’s the best PG at using his body to shield defenders and clear space–and he throws in a little elbow (kinda cheap, but effective) that the refs don’t really see. He went straight through every defender. Like, not around, but straight through.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.23 at 5:45 pm
And he looks SO fast out there. He definitely made the right decision–at least someone is playing real ball with real team defense.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.23 at 5:47 pm
@ Lake Show: Look at the combination of speed, size, and strength he possesses. Those aren’t natural gifts? The only thing he doesn’t have really are otherworldly hops, but he can still get up when he needs to.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 5:47 pm
nbk, D-Will is essentially Kirk Hinrich with an extra 20 pounds of muscle and fat. His skills are what make him so good. His height and weight help, but he is not greatly gifted because of those things. Why didn’t Marko Jaric dominate the L… D-Will is one of the most skilled basketball players today. Not one of the supreme athletes at all though.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 5:49 pm
He is not as fast as most PG’s. He is quick, but not fast. Jimmer is just as fast and is he a great athlete?

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.23 at 5:53 pm
No offense, but are you really trying to argue that strength is not, to an extent, a natural gift? If you don’t have the genes, it doesn’t matter how much iron you pump.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 6:04 pm
I’m not offended by that bro. Yes I would argue that strength is not a natural gift. It can be, but any man can become strong. You and I will have to disagree because yes I believe anyone can get bigger and stronger. Not only do I believe that, but it is a fact. No offense.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 6:32 pm
LaKeshia, he is not playing against NBA players. Or guys comparable. He is as quick as every PG in that league, and bigger.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 6:34 pm
LaKeshow, he is not playing against NBA players. Or guys comparable. He is as quick as every PG in that league, and bigger. Plus he’s a much better athlete than Kirk Hinrich. That is stupidly wrong. I’m out you obviously don’t watch much Deron Williams.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 6:37 pm
Click my name before you say something else ignorant.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 6:54 pm
Oh never mind everything I said. Just found out D-Will can dunk…

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 6:56 pm
Yup that’s all that video is, Deron Williams doing simple fast break dunk. Barely getting by his man. Like Kirk Hinrich. Your an idiot.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 6:57 pm
    Have a good Thanksgiving man.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 7:00 pm
…and Kirk is not an idiot. He’s a smart guy.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 7:01 pm
I know, Kirk Hinrich would never say he’s as good of an athlete as Deron Williams.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 7:07 pm
There are at least 20 PG’s in the L who are faster than Williams. If you need me to name them I will. There are PG’s his size and bigger that don’t use their body as well as him. That’s a skill not a natural gift. He’s a solid athlete. What i’m saying is he is in no way reliant on his athleticism to do the things he does. His jump shot, his dribbling, and the way he uses his body are all the reasons why D-Will is great. Not his speed or natural athletic ability.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 7:09 pm
He isn’t playing he NBA. He isn’t even playing in the Euro League. He is the biggest, most Physically gifted PG in that league. Period

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 7:21 pm
Yes your most likely correct with that statement. Doesn’t change the fact that he is a 2nd tier athlete in the NBA, but still capable of doing what we saw from him in this clip any night. Dude is all skills. His body is a semi-natural gift, but he is going to be able to do this for another decade because of his skills. D-Rose i’m not so sure that style of play translates into your 30′s all that well. So he’s going to have to start working on some skills that he can use when his athleticism fades.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 7:29 pm
He is still just pushing these guys out of his way. He doesn’t get layups that easily in the NBA. He scored 50 because he’s better than his competition in every way. Not just because he has superior skills. That’s what I’m saying. Your original statement, LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 3:45 pm
“Funny thing is he isn’t a crazy athlete or anything. He is just out playing everyone with his skills. I wouldn’t be surprised to see LeBron or Dwight or Blake Griffin dominate over there, but to see a dude who doesn’t have any more natural gifts then anyone else go out there and school cats like that is just fun to watch.”
    Is completely false.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 7:30 pm
Other than it being fun to watch.

  • LakeShow Posted: Nov.23 at 7:36 pm
Lol. Might have gone a little over the top saying that he doesn’t have “any more natural gifts.” He does get layups similar to that in the real L though. He is one of a few superstars that doesn’t have supreme athleticism in the L. Meaning it comes from mostly his high basketball skills. He is a good athlete. Not a great one.

  • yada Posted: Nov.23 at 7:41 pm
dude im a bulls fan ive watched kirk since he came into the league. kirk cant hold dwill jockstrap. and i luv kirk but its true. as far as best pg. ofcourse its d.rose

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 7:42 pm
He is a bulldozer though. That is a natural gift. There is maybe 5 PG’s in the NBA right now that have or had as much or more of his combination of size speed and strength. Russell Westbrook, Derrick Rose, Jason Kidd, Baron Davis is all I can think of right now.

  • datkid Posted: Nov.23 at 7:55 pm
what’s cool about deron williams tho? he can play virtually any game. You want him to just pass? cool. You want him just to score, come off screens like a 2, create his own shot? cool. you want him to run constantly? cool. he’s athletic enough for that. You want him to play a slow, grind it out offense? cool. He can even defend some 2′s. Deron Williams could literally fit any system in the L. I doubt anybody( *hint hint nbk lol) could name a system he would have trouble fitting into and making an impact.

  • BlackPhantom Posted: Nov.23 at 7:58 pm
Man, D-Will is easily a top-3 PG in the NBA today.

  • mugiwara Posted: Nov.23 at 7:58 pm
Derons all star game a couple years ago where amazing, for a point guard very athletic dunks. he has just found a more effective way of beating opponents, probably have a longer career because of it.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.23 at 8:10 pm
@ Lake Show: “You and I will have to disagree because yes I believe anyone can get bigger and stronger. Not only do I believe that, but it is a fact. No offense.”
So Kevin Durant could be as strong as Dwight Howard or LeBron James if he wanted.
Body builds are definitely genetic. Anyone can improve their strength exponentially through workouts, but your genes/”natural gifts” encompass your peak or ceiling.
Which is why you won’t see Rajon Rondo out-muscling Deron Williams. Ever.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 8:14 pm
Datkid no there isn’t. I mean there are systems where he wouldn’t be “ideal” but I think he would be very good to great everywhere.

  • meloman2.0 Posted: Nov.23 at 10:08 pm
I watched this thinking it would be an easy 50… but the defence was actually really good… this was impressive. My fav pg

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Nov.23 at 10:16 pm
DWill’s a great athlete to me. How many people are that big and still are able to change directions on a dime? Few. He’s not in the same class as Rose/Westbrook in terms of rare athletes but he’s still a world-class athlete.
    nbk, DWill’s a big dude but 220 might be stretching it (DWade’s 220+). He’s around 212-215.

  • AQWORD Posted: Nov.23 at 10:21 pm
Heres a guy who loves to ball.

  • nbk Posted: Nov.23 at 10:50 pm
Yeah your right JT he is listed at 210

  • Slick Ric Posted: Nov.23 at 11:41 pm
Bunch of feeble minded folks here, one fifty point game against guys none of us have heard of before and now he the best pg in the league. Nice to see hes healed up though, that should make things more interesting when the season starts, lol.

  • Buschfire Posted: Nov.23 at 11:48 pm
    Best PG’s in the league
    D Rose
    Steve Nash
    Deron Williams
    Russel Westbrook
    CP3
    Rajon Rondo

  • datkid Posted: Nov.24 at 12:23 am
@slick rick d.will was ALWAYS a top 2 point guard to me… I don’t care how many people whine about derrick rose, d.will is still better at everything except dunking.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.24 at 12:30 am
If Deron Williams cut down on his dimes and tried to be a score-first point guard in the vein of Derrick Rose, he could average 25+ ppg pretty easily. Look at last last year’s playoffs–he was killing it with an average of 24 and 10 for 10 games.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Nov.24 at 12:31 am
you really can’t make an argument for Rose being better than Williams, imo.

  • datkid Posted: Nov.24 at 12:32 am
mugwara deron williams really can throw down… he had a couple nice dunks back in that all star game in dallas in 2010

  • M Cho Posted: Nov.24 at 12:59 am
Glad the wrist is healed up. But damn, watching any kind of competitive non-charity-game basketball makes me miss the NBA even more.

  • Gametimeweezy Posted: Nov.24 at 1:41 am
D Rose was MVP, that’s kind of an argument because deserving or not I don’t see Williams getting an MVP which might be unfortunate… But Williams wasn’t just outmuscling the other team (which he definately was) but 21 points came off of 3-pointers. Yea he’s always beast but when he shoots the ball like that he is unstoppable and that set up his penetration. He was on fire. But guys impressive as it was it was definately against inferior comp and it’s not like we haven’t seen a 50 point game before.

  • Gametimeweezy Posted: Nov.24 at 1:51 am
    1. Chris Paul (assist to turnover king)
    2. Deron Williams
    3. Rose
    4. Rondo
    5. John Wall (and he’s going to get better) Honorable mentions Jason Kidd (for as long as he plays) Steve Nash and Westbrook
