Video: Kevin Durant Thinks Kobe Would Beat LeBron 1-on-1

Do you agree?

The LA Times cornered Kevin Durant and a bunch of other NBA players to ask them who they think would win if Kobe Bryant and LeBron James ever played a game of 1-on-1. Most would seem to give the edge to the Black Mamba. Please adjust your lives accordingly.

Allenp is speaking the TROOF at 1:22. I had one guy call 3 seconds on me one time. I looked at him, smiled, and checked the ball up top. He didn’t make one single call the rest of the way.

  • MLK4Life

@Eboy Congratulations on showing how immature and stupid you are. The best answer is if they played four times it would probably end up 2-2. Kobe could shoot from the outside all day. LeBron could go to the basket all day. They will never play one on one though. So this, like every other Kobe vs. Bron conversation could go on forever and bring out all the subjective and objective opinions.

  • nbaNw8

    I agree with KD.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Eboy and JTaylor
Y’all still trying to schedule these games in the League on PS3?
I smashed the computer the other. I was happy as hell. Lol.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

3 seconds? Charges? Where are you guys playing, in the Hamptons?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Also, if anybody has the codes for the unlockable greatest teams, Run TMC and the other one, holla at me.

  • robb

Players like Lebron function better when they play with a team, like somebody already mentioned Lebron loves the pick and roll so he can run like a train and get to the rim, he uses the isolation too, 1 on 1 is different, Kobe is a great 1 on 1 player, his moves, his experience, pump fakes, post moves, handles, turn around shots etc etc, he’s got the full arsenal, he knows exactly what he’s gonna do, he’s also a very crafty defensive player. Kobe is the best 1 on 1 baller and like I said, Melo and Durant would torch Lebron too 1 on 1, but that doesn’t mean they are better players than him

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

AllenP, yep. I can do anything else until we play each other. So we have to come up with a reasonable date and time (preferably during the afternoons) that works for both sides.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    *can’t*

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

When I used to hoop I had somebody call over the back once and an offensive foul like two or three times.
It was crazy. Everybody stopped and was like “Wth?”
Craziest thing about pickup is the arguing about the fouls and the score.

  • Triyo

if they played 10 times they’d each win 5…one on one is totally different from a real game. i bet jamal crawford is one of the best one on one guys in the league…kidna doesnt mean shit honestly

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Allen, how’d you beat the CPU?

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

Man when we play pick up, the only fouls that are called are the ones you hear a loud “SMACK” on someone’s wrist/arm/hand when they’re going for a shot/lay up. Everything else goes.

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

I’m passive aggressive and drive a lot and get hammered a lot, too. But I never call fouls, I just give a lot of sideways glances when other people call fouls.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I hate people who don’t call their fouls.
Because, inevitably the game gets close and the other team fouls them and there is a turnover or some other bad play and it screws things up. And the other team fouls them because they KNOW they won’t call it, particularly if the person who doesn’t call fouls is clearly better than everybody else.
Also, the person who complains the most about the other team’s foul calls is the person who typically calls the most ticky tack fouls.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    WTF

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Allen, how’d you beat the computer?

  • LA Huey

I don’t call fouls unless the contact was audible. But I also handcheck like it’s 1989 so it balances out.
And man, Allenp. You’re right about crazy arguing about calls. I’ve seen games where guys have literally argued for half an hour over a single call.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I’m the type that likes the person whom commits the foul to call the foul. That’s what I always do. If I foul the person and it affects the outcome of their shot then I call a foul on myself. This usually works with the church guys and such, but when you play out on the streets, no body calls fouls and your a b*tch if you do call one. Street ball games are the must fun and the must frustrating imo. You always have that guy are two that refuse to admit when they foul and it ruins the whole game for everyone.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

I won my first 2K game against the Grizz, beat Maniac, than got blown out by the LWolves and the Bobcats…

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

We play call your own fouls (but we’d prefer the “fouler” to fess up first) – And Respect the call. If you lose and blame it on a bad foul call we just laugh at you. If they score a bucket to end the game then bad defense is why you lost. Not because some guy called a sh*tty foul earlier, there are no free throws in a pick up game.

  • for real

the end was the best part

  • GC6

Lebron would beat KD in a one on one shouldnt talking trash be about his superior Lebron would beat Kobe in a one on one Kobe cant handle Wade either.

  • Chukaz

ESPN ranked kobe number 7 in the league and here is durant, who might be the best player in the league himself, saying kobe’s tied for number 1. I think KD knows better than ESPN ‘experts’

  • GC6

John Wall is the only one speaking sense

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Props to Tina–about time, if you ask me.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Calling your own fouls never works. I always end up calling my own fouls while the other team doesn’t, and it just gives them extra possessions. I also hate people who complain about foul calls.
I also hate people who offensive foul the sh!t out of every play. I don’t call offensive fouls, but it’s really annoying catching a ‘bow to the rib every time the jack @ss drives it.

  • manu

melo in a heartbeat over both of em…best 1 on 1 player in the game no contest

but kobe in his prime eats lebron alive

  • LA Huey

Teddy, I hear you on the guy who abuses the pick-up game code about no offensive fouls. I counter by bodying him up off the ball because calling off-the-ball fouls is about as weak as calling offensive fouls. And generally, the more physical someone is, the less stamina they have so that off-the-ball pressure will slow them down in a hurry.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Kobe wins this hands down. 1 on 1 is about skill set, shot making ability, dribble moves and pump fake. Anybody talking about strength in 1 on 1 never played. Lebron has no post game, no running shot ability, can’t hit clutch baskets unless he is winning in 4th qtr, and some of yall think Lebron would beat a player who grew up playing 1 on 1 and Kobe game is suited more for a 1 on 1 battle. WHAT IS LEBRON GO TO MOVE–NONE. WHAT IS KOBE GO TO MOVE, post fade, pump fake-up fake, cross over dribble stop pop and pump fake-spin shot, and post up fake-layup. THIS IS AN EASY WIN FOR KOBE!! BOOK IT!!!

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    ^ and scene.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Seed probably thinks Kobe could beat Jesus at being holy.

  • robb

@GC6 John Wall would lose against someone like CP3 for the same reasons Lebron would lose against Kobe. He might be bigger, stronger and more athletic than Chris but CP3 is more skilled, more crafty and more astute. John Wall is too young to know better.

  • Roger

Keven Durant: “I am nowhere near those guys.”

    Humble… :-)

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Seed probably thinks Kobe could beat Hitler at being evil.

  • http://bedotwater.bandcamp.com BE.water

Yo. Im not no p*ssy Allenp! We can meet up with Bcrawfod out here in Chi and I’ll prove it (need authentication when I take that W). lol but nah I take charges everywhere, pickup games included. I dont call them, but it makes a mug think when he comes down thinking hes going straight to the rack and he sees someone setting up for a charge. If you’re a basketball player, you’re trying to avoid that call subconsciously. Just one of those old man tricks I’ve learned after I got injured (I’m only 25 btw.) On another note, I had a “coach” ref our pickup games last week for whatever reason, and award foul shots to a player who received a foul, but only if the shot went in… the f**k?

  • http://bedotwater.bandcamp.com BE.water

dont get it twisted though. I dont do it every trip down the court, or even that often. But its funny to see people react to a n*gga taking a charge.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

seed thinks kobe would be a better president then JFK

  • T-Money

I must admit thaI handcheck likea mofo.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I had to figure out the coach profile that worked and it helped that I played the Sixers.
I have discovered some quirks that make the game easier too. Like the computer LOVES pump fakes. They always take one pump fake at the end of the shot clock before shooting. Crash board don’t run so much and value the ball. I have always believed Atlanta had horses and trading Jamal Crawford and Marvin Williams for Delonte West and Jeff Green was a great move! If I get the Sixers to trade me Brief Holiday, Thadeus Young and Speights I am aces.

  • Hobbes

Kobe can beat Lechoke 1-on-1 till he retire just like Mike could still beat Bobcat player like JRich, Wallace 1-on-1 in training. Seriously Lebron is not even the top 1-on-1 players in the league today. Get off his d*ck y’all.

  • Rainman

@ Eboy: “While Lebron ain’t Hakeem on the block (he might not even be Nick Van Exel at this point) you really believe he couldn’t back down Kobe with just a power dibble and some banging?”

IF it was that Easy, LeBron would have been able to do that with Rajon Rondo guarding him this year. What did he do ANYTIME he had his back turned to the basket with Rondo on him? He looked completley confused, NEVER took advantage, eitehr passed or took a bad fadeaway. He has ZERO Post Skill, Watch the big games, u’ll see. He cant even back down Pg’s, ur telling me Rondo is stronger than Kobe? Come on.

  • Rainman

forget jsut last year, he woulda posted down rondo ANY of the last 3 years he faced the Celtics in the playoffs(2 of them losses) , or any otehr player in the LEAGUE if it was just as easy as posting and banging down low, the dude is huge . But it takes talent, skill and footwork.

  • VanCityBBall

    KD 1d?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

@ LA Huey: Thanks for the tip, I think I’m gonna try that from now on, actually.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Sometimes though, when I know the guy is gonna commit an offensive foul on a drive, I will stick my elbows out too. But then they have a reason to call a foul.
And anyone else shoot the J right after you check the ball? ‘Cuz that’s my pet move.

  • Jackie Moon

What’s the big deal? Of course Kobe would beat Lebron in 1-on-1. Kobe would beat MJ, Larry Bird, DWade, Derrick Rose, Carmelo, Dirk, Pierce, anyone in 1-on-1.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

This has been a fun thread.
E, you’re angrier than usual this week. What gives?

  • http://www.sonichurricane.com Guile

in a one on one game, lebron won’t get to the rim as much, because he got nobody setting screen after screens for him.

i seldom see lebron take somebody off the dribble without the help of a screen, he doesn’t have that crossover.

kobe on the other hand, is very creative, he’s got better handles, providing he’s playing with 10 fingers.

  • Andrew Woods

Lebron never made a clutch shot in the 4th quarter while down???? Plz excuse yourself to the crazy farm at your earliest convience
