Video: LeBron Says He’d Be ‘Victorious’ in 1-on-1 Against Kobe

The media loves to pit Kobe Bryant and LeBron James against one another, and even though everyone knows this scenario will never take place, both guys can’t avoid the silly “who would win in a game of 1-on-1″ question. Though LeBron isn’t nearly as enthusiastic about answering it as Kobe seems to be, James still believes he’d win in this hypothetical game.

Kobe’s 1-on-1 arsenal makes him unstoppable. Queen James couldn’t see Kobe at all

  • SesameBaller

Oh man, I think the media, the fans, generally everyone has criticized LeBron James enough. But let’s find another target, otherwise we will break him down or make him an a**hole all the way.

It seemed like he was sad/pissed/frustrated…. ad that to a word called lockout.

  • http://www.slamonline.com UNFROZEN CAVEMAN LAWYER

    THIS?

  • 23

This is why “some” athletes hate the media! I how people remember this moment the next time bron is “rude/disrespectful” to a reporter.

  • ZoomZoom

    HE WOULDN’T LAST A SECOND 1 ON 1 WITH KOBE #BEREAL

  • mick

lebron wins, kobe cant defend or drive to the basket any more

  • http://nba.com GP23

Man.. he did not look happy when he asked that question.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

I’d rather see Melo vs Kobe: The Bully Vs. The Mamba

  • T-Ray

Wtf do you expect him to say? I’m gonna lose cuz he’s better? Gtfo here he’s a competitor of course he’s gonna say this.

  • ron

We don’t know if James could beat Kobe 1 on 1.
But it is likely that James could beat MJ 1 on 1 now.

  • LA Huey

Another 200-post thread?! I got my lollerskaters and ready to go.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

SesameBaller, if I’m making a living for the rest of my life, my kids life,… you could criticize me all day every day.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

completely reasonable… if you overreact you’re a little girl.

  • Ballislove

Stupid question, of course he’d say himself

  • Lloyd

He’s right to be annoyed…he probably gets asked that question 10 times a month. This is a ridiculous question to ask either Kobe or Lebron. No self-respecting athlete at that competitive level of the game should ever say they believe another player can beat them. They should have too much pride in their game. Argue about this as fans all you want, but asking those two is redundant.

  • DieselMechanic

Kobe was cool and relaxed when asked this question. That would be a sick pay per view event. Losers outs to like 35 by 2s and 3s.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    This again?

  • manu

melo would beat them both no contest…best offensive player in the game hands down or dirk

  • Mburb321

This topic is OLD…but i still dont see what it is so unfathomable that they would ever player 1 on 1. The are pros, competitive, semi-friends and have plenty of chances to do so on Team USA and all star games. When did 1 on 1 become such a big deal?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Who would win in a game of 1 on 1 in 2002, Tracy McGrady or Kobe Bryant. That is a better question

  • http://nba.com GP23

^good question.. I would say T-Mac edges it, just. Kobe became KOBE from 2003 onwards.

  • http://nba.com GP23

^ actually, I would say Kobe, he plays far better D. But it’s close, very close. T-Mac was a beast on offense, he was unreal in his orlando days. Still can’t believe he never made it out the 1st round. Damn!

  • http://www.slamonline.com SMills

If its Lebron in his prime vs Kobe in his prime thats a real argument. As of today Lebron defintely wins through his size and athleticism. Also Lebron is a premier defensive player while Kobe has always had a hard time guarding him, lately when their respective teams face off we’ve often seen Lebron guard Kobe BUT Artest often guards Lebron. I think Mamba would find ways to score but struggle to keep Lebron from taking a road trip to lay-up city everytime he touched the ball.

  • Mburb321

nbk 92 Mike vs 05 Kobe?

  • MaxIsNative

I say Kobe when I threw stuff at garbage cans.

  • http://www.offthebackboard.wordpress.com Off The Backboard

06 Kobe would wipe the floor with Lebron James, are you kidding me? Hell, even 03 Kobe would beat him. I don’t think people realize how quick Kobe was in his prime going to the basket, and he was a great defender (esp. in 03, less as he got older). A wider arsenal of shots, and the only thing Lebron has an advantage over him is rebounds.

  • http://www.offthebackboard.wordpress.com Off The Backboard

But as of 2011, Lebron would obviously win. Why is this even a current topic of debate? This was relevant in 2009, not so much now.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

You realize people say LeBron is/was the fastest guy in the league right? Athletically, Kobe has never been what LeBron is. At any aspect of athletic ability.

  • http://www.offthebackboard.wordpress.com Off The Backboard

As of 2011 though, obviously Lebron would win. What a stupid question.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

One on One it would be a toss up MBurb. I think it depends who starts with the ball

  • http://www.offthebackboard.wordpress.com Off The Backboard

@nbk – A one on one game is played half court, and scoring in that situation is purely based on triple threat scoring skills. If I was Kobe I’d just sag back a bit and dare Lebron to shoot jumpers.

  • http://Slamonline@yahoo.com nbk

More space to dare someone who is bigger then you to shoot doesn’t help 1 on 1. You just giving the bigger more space to build steam or to get closer to the basket. Literally every way of guarding a guy like LeBron in a 5 on 5 game will only kill you 1 on 1. You don’t have help at the basket. Giving LeBron more room to get their is only going to result is more and-1′s (gettin the ball back on misses)

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I wouldn’t let LbJ shoot jumpers. I’d guard him like Rondo. Get up under him and push him from where he feels comfortable. It’s honestly a tie between the two right now. Lbj would win a game Kobe would win a game. T-Mac might have been able to take KB back at the turn of the century, but KB’s defense is quite a bit better than McGrady’s ever was. Overall KB a better 1 on 1 player through his career than both guys so i’d give him a slight edge on most nights.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    F*ck.
Can these two just have at it already so they both and everyone else can shut the hell up about this already?
Televise it, make it a PPV, do it in some lonely gym somewhere, I don’t care.
    Just get it done already.
Not like they have any NBA games coming up on their schedules…

  • Yesse

Nope, LeBron. It’s easier said than done.

Kobe is getting alot older, though so it won’t be too long when LeBron has the edge. I still think LeBron is a better player than Kobe right now when it comes to thinking about the overrall, but 1-on-1 situations and the clutch factors goes to Kobe.

  • Patrick

WTF? Why does “everyone know that this scenario will never take place”?? It could easily happen..just need somebody to set it up…

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

this scenario never will take place. That’s why

  • Patrick

In fact I think the NBA should get rid of the Dunk Contest, and instead have a 1 on 1 contest…put in the NBA’s best 1 on 1 players..guys like Pierce, Stephen Jackson, McGrady, Jamal Crawford, Diaw, Barbosa, etc..and the big names too if they’d agree to participate…LBJ in the video says “it will never happen” (him playing 1 on 1 against Kobe). TO that I say, “WTF not?”

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

Y’all realize that Kobe is Lego’s next project, right? He is the Bionicle man. Pretty soon he is going to be equipped with wings and cannons. And he will then win every game of one-on-one forever.

  • @Deknowz

Look at his body language,HE doesn’t even believe that SH*T! lol

  • Tyler

For LeBrons interview in London for the “LeBron 9 Cannon” launch, check this out on youtube:

“LeBron 9 Cannon Launch @ House of Hoops in London”

We got a body language expert now. Wow, LeBron videos tend to bring out all kinds of wacky characters.

  • Mburb321

    PLAYERS REJECT..NO SEASON..

  • LA Huey

I’d rather debate the nuances of Scalabrine and Bonner going 1-on-1. Scal’s an underrated defender and I don’t think he’d let Bonner get his shot off but wouldn’t be able to create his own shot either. I’ll say game’s to 6 by 2s and 3s.

  • robb

Of course he’s gonna say that, i mean what do you guys want him to say? If you ask him who would win him or mj he’d say he’d win too, only average players would say otherwise. Superstars must believe they are the best

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Diaw?….. What? lmao. Fan of his, but he is the epitome of someone who is best suited with a team and is not good at 1 on 1 whoever said that should rethink allot of things they hold true.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

LA Huey, there are just to many nuances to go over in that debate. Lets keep it easy with the basic skill sets of LbJ and KB.

  • LA Huey

Diaw as among “NBA’s best 1 on 1 players”? We’re certainly not talking about 2011 McGrady, right? That list must be of players you assembled in your 2K league.

  • http://www.facebook.com/#!/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Now? Lebron. But ’06 Kobe would win. Kobe in ’06 is one of the most lethal seasons on the offensive side of the ball ever by a shooting guard

  • MLK4Life

Since there probably won’t be a season, maybe people will find someone else to pick on and criticize in the sports world besides LeBron. The LeBron/Kobe conversation is old. LeBron clearly is sick of hearing the comparisons. He’s made it clear that he’s not trying to be Kobe or Michael. Just let him be who he is.
