Video: Steve Kerr’s First Michael Jordan Experience

As MJ’s teammate in Chicago, Steve Kerr ran the gamut of experiences — from getting punched in the face by an enraged Jordan during a testy practice, to being entrusted by Mike with the winning shot in Game 6 of the 1997 NBA Finals — but even before they played together, being in the same gym with Air Jordan proved to be more than a little interesting.

a couple of years ago i was playing pick up bball in new orleans, and i was the only white person on the court (like 25 black guys and me)…and when they were choosing teams, this guy picks me and says “ill take steve kerr”…and even though steve kerr was a good player, im not gonna lie, i was really OFFENDED haha…i look nothing like steve kerr and i dont play like steve kerr either…and by the way, i was better than most of the guys there!

This was actually a really good show, it even made Reggie tolerable. The stuff about Vernon Maxwell “not being right” and “the great Keith Closs” were genuinely funny, not just sports-talk-show-funny were everyone laughs awkwardly for no reason. Reminded me of when CWEBB and GP used to do Fan Night. Rondoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

good show. can’t wait 4 next week

    what’s this show called?

  • Dope(Georgia Boy)

Nobody gives a damn about your life story

  • silebyboy

Is that show aired in the UK?

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

@fruizm- cool story, bro… Jordan is the reason Malone,Stockton,Barkley,Ewing,R.Miller,Wilkins,M.Price,L.Johnson, Webber,C.Robinson,Mutumbo and Kemp don’t have rings.

  • silebyboy

I don’t think Jordan is the reason Chris Webber doesn’t have a ring dude.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

In (im guessing) 95-96ish the Washington Bullets had a pretty solid group (Webb,Strickland,J.Howard,Cheney) but were knocked out in the 1st round by Chicago (if my memory is correct)

  • Zabbah

    @fruizm – your story sucked.

  • Jono

    @fruizm wrong website perhaps?

  • Thor

    wow, what idiots ^

  • coggie13

    Fruizm, CSB

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

@BossTerry – The ’96 Bullets went 39-43. Please think before you type.

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

That Bullets team was the 8th seed. And played the bulls in the first round. It’s safe to say Tim Duncan, Shaq and Kobe are why Chris Webber never saw the finals.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

No, the Bulls are the reason why Ewing, Stockton, Malone, Miller and Barkley are ringless. The Bulls without MJ damn near beat Ewing’s Knicks, so I don’t understand why people continue to act like MJ was the only reason why the Bulls dominated the 90s.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

    ^Not an MJ fan.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Im sorry Ugh, but as stated in my earlier post I was making a guess at the year, and completely forgot that Webber strained his shoulder in 95-96, causing the Bullets to have a horrible year. Im sure you already knew that without the help of google, or any other search engine you may use to make yourself seem ubber intelligent, in fact, Slam outta give you your own column since you seem to know everything about everything, and correcting peoples mistakes seems to be one of your strong points.. SLAM!! Hire this guy STAT!!! He knows all!! a.sshole.

    thats too funny

  • BBaller

Just a thought, what do you guys think would of happened if Jordan faced a dominant center in a NBA finals series? Apart from Ewing in his conference all his titles came against teams weak at the 5 spot. Now i’m in no way under estimating MJ but just putting out there. I wish he didn’t retire when Hakeem was the best in the NBA.

  • BBaller

Sorry not weak as such, but their strengths lied elsewhere. LA, Portland,Phoenix, Seattle and Utah.

  • http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=pawtucketymca Gametimeweezy

Orlando did kinda know off the Bulls the year he came back, but dominant centers really had no affect on MJ cuz theres was still nobody to guard him, right?

  • slamfan4life

    Jesus, he was so good…….

  • Justin

JTaylor, it really is amazing that you continue your hate for MJ. Nobody is saying he was the only reason they dominated but he sure as hell was the main one. Yes, the Bulls without MJ ALMOST beat the Knicks. But did they? No! If MJ was there would they have? Absolutely. If the Bulls had played those Houston teams in the Finals I believe they would have had the same strategy they did against Orlando in ’96. Let Hakeem have his points and shut down Kenny Smith and Vernon Maxwell the same way they did to Nick Anderson and Dennis Scott. On the other end it would be business as usual because there isn’t anybody on the Rockets that could stop Jordan or Pippen. The thing that a lot of people forget is that it’s not just the Jordan you see in games that helped his team to win. It’s in practices as well, where he pushed every one of his teammates to be better players, to play hard in practice and with Phil Jackson getting everyone to except their roles it became the most dominant team in history

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

    F*ck MJ.

  • Enigmatic

    Shots fired!!!
Nah, I’m not defending MJ for sh*t until after the lockout ends tho…

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

@BossTerry – Uber, not ubber. Umlauts if you got ‘em.
The fact is you said something stupid (that Jordan cost Webber a ring), got called on it twice and now you’re trying to distract from admitting you’re a numpty by stating the bleeding obvious about me. Jordan never cost Webber a ring. Just say it.

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

Oh, oh, oh! Wait, I have another point to make – I like how you feel it necessary to elevate me to the level of knowing everything about everything to notice you’re wrong about something. I see what you did there, making out like only someone who’s a genius can notice you’re wrong. Check out the arrogance on this guy. Phew!

  • http://averysmith.org Avery Smith

What do y’all think would have happened if CHARLES SMITH made one of the 4 shots that he missed at the end of Game 3 against MJ and the Bulls of the 92-93 ECF??? The Knicks would have played against Charles Barkley and the Suns in the Finals AND the Knicks would have finally dethroned the Bulls!

  • fruizm

@Dope(Georgia Boy), Zabbah, Jone, coggie 13…Thanks for participating.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Or Game 6 of the ’93-’94 Finals against Houston, when John Starks was on fire–what if Hakeem hadn’t blocked him at the buzzer? The shot looked right on target… The Knicks would have won the chip and Starks would’ve been a hero, and his last second 3 pointer would be top 10 on the NBA’s Greatest Playoff Moments.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Once again Captain Correction saves the day!! (I simply guessed at a year, and missed) Lets all hope you don’y get hit by a bus today..

  • Justin

@Avery…while technically he didn’t miss those shots as two of them were stripped down low first. One was funny because he went straight up and pinned the ball to the bottom of the backboard. And you don’t know if that’s how the series would have finished at all. The Bulls pretty much blew out the Knicks in game 6 and then it would have been game 7 back in New York. Who’s to say how that would have finished? And I do like how JTaylor’s response when being shown up is simply “F*ck MJ”. Nice rebuttal. lol

  • http://gmail.com z

@teddy the bear, I’ve often thought about that myself. I’ve told lotsa ppl that if dream hadn’t blocked that last second 3 there was no way starks wouldve missed it. Starks’ whole career woulda turned out differently…I loved that guy when I was a kid. About c webb: while its true that mj’s bulls knocked out washington in ’97 (mj dropped 55 in gm 2!), even IF the bullets got past chi they weren’t goin to the finals that year. Who kept c webb ringless were shaq, kobe, and the refs of that game 6.
