Video: Derrick Williams’ ‘Are You From Here?’ Commercial

The rookie recalls his path to the League.

Derrick Williams didn’t come from the roughest part of town or have to overcome extreme adversity and hardship to get into the League, but it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have love for the California town that he calls home. In his Under Armour “Are You From Here?” spot above—watch Brandon Jennings‘ and Kemba Walkers’ if you missed ‘em—the Timberwolves rookie talks about instilling in himself the mental toughness and focus he needed to jump start his bball career when barely anyone was paying attention.

Under Armour is putting out the best basketball commercials since the Jordan commercials.

How good is Williams going to be? I say he is going to be multiple AllStar, but never reach that “Superstar” status. Thinking he will be a 20, 7, and 3 guy is what my guess would be. Also is he any good on defense? Didn’t see him play much in college..

I’ve like the UA commercials thus far featuring D-THRILL. Kid’s got handles and will probably push Beasley out of the lineup.

    Chris Bosh 2.0?

I agree with lakeshow on the all star and superstar point. I want to see how the twolves look in a couple of years. Im hoping for a playoff spot. Hoping is the key word.

He played defense like a beast as well. I believe he had two separate game saving blocks in last years tournament. I know for sure against Memphis he blocked the hell out of a guy and advanced them to the third around. I think the other I’m thinking of was against Washington.

Either way, he is a Power Forward that can shoot and move like a small forward but also battle with the bigs. Would love to see him turn into a brotha version of Nowitzki.
