Video: Chauncey Billups Hits Game-Winning Three vs Mavs

Mr. Big Shot lives up to his nickname.

With Chris Paul in street clothes, Vinny Del Negro entrusted Chauncey Billups with the Clippers’ final possession last night, and Billups lived up to his nickame of “Mr. Big Shot” for one night anyway. Must suck for the Dallas Mavericks to lose back-to-back games thanks to clutch shots by Derek Fisher and Chauncey Billups.

that’s the thing when you have a rep like billups, we only look at the makes. i’ve seen him miss countless “clutch” shots in recent years but nobody remembers them. depending on your rep, we’ll remember the makes or the misses.

they lost the same way as with the Lakers. The person throwing the ball in got the shot off. This is the most obvious play. Why is Kid running away from Billups after he throws it in. It should have been press coverage and the defender should have been your best player and tallest player with a long wing span. If only the Mavs had someone like that…. dumb coaching. Dirk should have been all over that pass so that Billups didn’t get such an easy throw in

@cosign T-Money. Nobody ever remembers the misses.

Seeing this play makes 2004 not seem like it was that long ago…

That’s the first big shot that I’ve seen Billups hit in a while..i have no idea how he got this nickname.

Jason Kidd didn’t go the wrong way! His reaction time is just mad slow! He’s 53! Give em a break! And no one remembers misses.Michael Jordan missed game winners too, but when you make more than you miss, you’re a clutch player. Billups had a great run of making big shots! Not necessarily game winners, but big shots! Game changers and momentum swinging shots hurt just as much as game winners!

I want to give jason terry a ton of credit, he hit some huge shots at the end. Kidd made a mistake by not closely trailing billups.

@k.holiday, which nba player has made more clutch shots than missed? role players maybe but dont act as if jordan rarely missed game winners. even kobe who is considered the most clutch player in todays game hasnt made 50% of his “game winners” I believe youtube highlights are blinding some fans

^ that’s why ppl are saying Kobe’s not clutch.

  • http://juan.garcia@computershare.com Marcelus Wallace

The only current clutch players are those with rings… Kobe, Fisher, Ginoboli, Wade, Ray, Pierce and Nowitzki. That’s it!

Honarable mention: KD and Carmelo. But they still have to get the rings or their really not that clutch. Clutchness is earned in the play-offs kiddies.

@23, by making more than you miss, I’m talking any type of shot that changes the momentum of the game… Of course no big time player has made more shots than they’ve missed, but the class of players people define as “clutch” keep shooting and what happens is eventually they’ll be remembered for making more (clutch game changing) shots than they’ve missed, hence Chauncey Billups being Mr. Big Shot! He’s missed a ton of shots in the clutch after leaving Detroit, but he makes one and Mr. Big Shot is back (in the minds of media and fans)! Why? Because to them it seems like he’s made more than he’s missed. Once someone succeeds, no one remembers failure; not even those who failed!

Anyone else laugh like a hyena at Kidd’s midair bounce off Blake?
Kidd is by no means a lightweight, yet Griffin hardly shakes as Ason (yes, no J this season, look at his 3pt shooting no’s the last 4 games….and weep) flies into him in some misguided closeout attempt on Billups.
Too damn funny (and this is coming from a Mavs supporter bt)
