Video: Kobe Bryant Passes Shaquille O’Neal for 5th All-Time in Scoring

Kobe Bryant torched the Philadelphia Sixers for 24 first half points tonight, which was just enough to pass former teammate/nemesis Shaq on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list. Bryant now has 28, 597 points in his storied career. Congrats, Bean!

lol one of you Kobe lover’s had to use my information to try and support your crazy stance on his legacy. nice

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

HA! JP7′s right, that did sound funny. However, in my hood when no-homo came to it’s peak in popularity, many of us were forced to ask; While I’m thinking of perhaps a M.Malone/Olajuwan when ‘prime big man’ is stated… Why is another dude thinking of uhh.. something else? No offense… jus’ saying. co-sign jimmer @ 10:01.

  • Red

Kobe fans are idiots lol, #2 overall. Their team is doing bad so they’re reassurance is making Kobe #2, pathetic.

  • ttc

u guys r just a bunch of haters..yea Shaq was the best player on those Laker teams of the early 2000′s, but since then Kobe has been the better player..overall he had a better career even if he retired now..apart from MJ who is better than Kobe?! tell me who’s better?!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Wilt, Bill, KAJ (<— no logical argument that he is better then those 3)
    .
Magic, Bird, Shaq (<— argument can be made, but I won't entertain it)
    .
Oscar, Moses, Hakeem, Duncan, (<— my opinion, but I've heard compelling arguments as to otherwise)

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Co-Sign nbk, although I would entertain an argument for the middle group.

  • ttc

ok : Wilt, Bill, KAJ —> how do we have no logical argument that he is better than all 3, but MJ is? Look, in my eyes Jordan was the best ever and I honestly don’t see anybody coming close to him other than Kobe..KB is as much a winner as Russell or KAJ; Wilt was dominant as f*ck, guess he could be ranked higher than Kobe..as for the others u mentioned, no way are they better than Kobe..

  • ttc

truth is, best ever will always be subjective..i guess we’ll just hav to disagree..come to think of it, u could make a pretty strong case for all the players u just mentioned..no point arguin’; even MJ being the greatest could be debated…

    KAJ is better than Kobe..lol.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

If you don’t know the difference between Jordan and Bryant then there is no reason for us to have this conversation. Jordan and Bryant are not even close. If you want to know how I feel about those two, you can google that too. I am not getting into something I’ve explained numerous times.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

I think they mean #2 all-time sg, Red; not #2 overall

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

“KB is as much a winner as Russell or KAJ” – Translation, “I have literally, NO CLUE, what I am saying”

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

“Jordan and Bryant are not even close” Which Jordan and Bryant do you/did you watch? LMAO. You must not watch because they are ridiculously similar players, with only a few things really separating MJ from KB. Don’t even want to argue with your illogical a$$ though. No one is as much of a winner as Bill btw.

  • ttc

whatever man, just read my last comment; there’s no need to have this debate..many will say Kobe is the greatest, some will say Jordan, some will say KAJ..whatever..just for the record i meant to say Kobe’s winning mentality is very strong; aside from Jordan i dont know of a player that can beat in that categorie

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

There games are very similar. Their production, efficiency, ability to lead a team to wins, are not even close. Sorry I didn’t spell it out for you. little girl

  • ttc

yea Bill Russell is up there too..my bad..let’s be real, if a player managed to win 8 titles in a row and 11 overall in this era, nobody could ever argue that he’s not the best ever..why don’t people see Russell that way?!

  • ttc

@nbk, i think they’re pretty close in the departements u just mentioned

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

You also don’t know what your talking about.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Eh em… Hall monitor AllenP where are you??? nbk is being sexist and it’s very upsetting! He called me…. he called me….. *sniffle, sniffle* …. A GIRL!!!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

It has taken Kobe 21,969 shots to make 9,978. In 21,686 shots (pre-washington) Jordan made 10,962, That is ONE THOUSAND more makes in LESS attempts. HAHAHAHA, and they are “close” – how?

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

Kobe is the man… But Mike won a dpoy, and lead in steals in 88, 90 and 93. The Finals MVPs/Performances are a pretty significant difference too.

  • Mario

    Wade>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Lebron

did I hurt little nbk’s feelings?

now respond like a MAN and not a boy

  • ttc

    ^^
did Jordan enter the NBA as the youngest player ever? (i know the record has been broken since) u could argue it was his choice but Kobe was a lot more raw than MJ when he became a professional..he was a boy amongst men..if he had gone to college he would’ve dominated a lot earlier..

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

TTC, Kobe shot a grand total of 1,355 shots in his first 2 years. He has eclipsed that number every single year since 2006 It literally makes less then a 1% difference in his efficiency.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Mario, why don’t you practice what you preach?

  • ttc

@nbk guess i’ll agree wit u on that one..i’ve watched MJ in his prime, and he never ceased to amaze me..but i hav to say Kobe is the closest to me..i may not know about all those statistics and sh*t, but watchin Kobe reminds me of Jordan..he’s not on his level, but like i said he’s damn close..another thing is his determination to be the best; his will to win..he truly reminds me of MJ when it comes to that..and just for the record i ain’t on Kobe’s dick or anything (my fave of all time is the Answer), but i’m just speakin my opinion..

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

his game reminds me of Jordan too. His demeanor, his competitive drive, everything is just like Jordan. But the reason is because he patterned his game after him. Not because he is his equal on the court, or even close. Bryant is (arguably, depending how you define Oscar) the 2nd best SG of all-time. A top 10 player (arguably). He has been absolutely great. But there is a difference between top 10, and the GOAT. A big, big difference.

  • Maniac

    Jordan/Russell
    Kobe
    Wilt
    Kareem
    Magic
    Bird
    Oscar
    West
    Shaq
    Duncan
    Doc

  • Red

Ah yeah my bad Jay. And Kobe is under Kareem Maniac stop being dumb. Can you argue that Wilt is better than Kobe without factoring in that Wilt was from the old days or do you have to? I feel Wilt should be considered better.

  • Maniac

There is no way in hell that anyone can make a CONSISTENT argument and rank Hakeem and Moses over Kobe. I still have Doc & Baylor over those guys, but they’re all under that group of super-ultra elite guys where they fight for position. Next. At this point, I still don’t see why people rank Shaq and Duncan over Kobe. Shaq himself has already said he’s passed him up (where did this idea that Shaq is amongst Magic & Bird come from?). Next. I can entertain arguments from the following non-bigs: Magic, Bird, & Oscar (no argument for Jerry West), but when Magic himself has repeately (even last night) said that Kobe is greater and Bird has said that Kobe is damn near Jordan’s equal, WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED??? I mean they were saying that Jordan was arguably the greatest in 92′. That’s 7 full seasons of basketball with not nearly the amount of accomplishments he would finally receive. What gives Jordan sooooooo much superiority over those guys in most people’s eyes, but Kobe the only slightest consideration when they truly are DAMN NEAR EQUAL. Jordan said it himself that Kobe and only Kobe is worthy of comparison. I have the upmost respect for Russell so I will neglect to rank Kobe over him, but Kobe surely is #3 on the all-time list if Jordan is #1 with Russell. There is NO CONSISTENT argument that anyone can make to not have him there while having Jordan at the top. Wilt & Kareem are right there and I won’t have a fit to see them at the top either because they are both arguably goats.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Red, trust me, if you are old enough to have actually seen basketball pre-1996, you do not want to be in this conversation.

  • http://www.apbr.org/oldtimrs.html Maniac

@Red I have little problem with Kareem being #1 because he is arguably the GOAT. Just realize that I have written countless books and articles written from the 60s all the way up to most recently 2009 and watched plenty of footage to have a decently knowledgable opinion on who the greatest basketball players are. There are still some old-timers today who neglect to rank Kareem in the top 6 (perfect example is the 1999 Associated Press voting for the Basketball Player of the Century where Kareem finished 7th. Click my name to see the results). It’s just not that clear cut dry when it comes to these elite group of guys. Very very close, but Kobe is wayy up there whether some people like it or not. He has the credentials and more importantly, the skills, to back it up. I am saying this as a fan of basketball before I am a fan of Kobe.

  • Maniac

Sorry I meant that I have read countless books

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

name the books you have read.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

^LOL was going to say… haha. Good arguments Maniac. I honestly can’t make my mind up of where i’d place Kobe. I’d argue him as good as top 3 and would except someone putting him as low as 10. I’ll wait till KB retires before I put my final seal on his final placement.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

And the “Associated Press” is – Marv Albert, Chick Hearn, Fuzzy Levane,
Harvey Pollack, Bill Russell, & Lenny Wilkens.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Marv Albert being the youngest of that group, born, 1941.

  • Maniac

I’ll just name the first 10 I pick off my bookshelf…. The Book of Basketball – Bill Simmons, Basketball and philosophy, Dr. Jack’s Leadership lessons learned from a lifetime of basketball, The modern encyclopedia of basketball (1979), A view from above (by wilt), when the game was our’s (by bird and magic), Wilt 1962, Red and me (by Russell), Second wind(by Russell), The big o (by Oscar), Playing for keeps (about Jordan), I’m in the middle of west’s new book. I have plenty of others, but I don’t feel obligated to prove my love for the game lol

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

When you say “Just realize that I have read countless books and articles written from the 60s all the way up to most recently 2009″ I just want some kind of proof that your telling the truth. Anyone can say they have read countless books. (I guess you telling me the titles isn’t “proof” but I take it as confirmation that your not at-least completely exaggerating) – So thank you for taking time to list a few.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

And my argument as to why I personally have Moses and Hakeem over Bryant is consistent. To think any two peoples arguments about anything will be consistent would be asinine. All we can ask for as “students of the game” or whatever you want to be called is that people are consistent about their own opinion.

  • Maniac

I respect that nbk. It’s not my goal in life to make everyone some kind of Kobe worshiper. I just know greatness when I see it and I’d like to believe that I have the knowledge, intelligence, and unbias to properly evaluate it. And trust me, I have read those books and many others. When I first told you guys that i’m a huge basketball junkie, I wasn’t lying. I have no need to lol.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I understand, but you have to realize, you came in here and told all of us, many people just like you, that you know more then us about the history of the game. You weren’t the first to do that, won’t be the last. So we (except a few who generally just like to take part in confrontational arguments which is kind of the norm for newer people) didn’t take to kindly to your initial attitude and the way you were delivering your opinion. Which is why you were met with such hostility. It’s all good though, you clearly know a lot about the game and have a useful (& youthful) perspective.

  • JP7

    1. Jordan
    2. Kobe
    3. I dunno cuz I never seen all the other candidates play (russel, jabar, wilt, like who else, mosses from the bible, im sure jesus was a better player guy), plus the game has evolved, plus Kobe gets the comments crackin lol it’s gettin real serious out here

  • Bill

Kobe’s nutjugglers think Luke Walton was a better basketball player than Charles Barkley, Steve Nash, and Dirk Nowitzki. Why? He has more rings.

  • http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/35159/roses-sweet-game-continues-bulls-roll nbk

    @JP7 Couldn’t agree more!

  • http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/35159/roses-sweet-game-continues-bulls-roll nbk

Players are always put on more of a pedestal after they retire. The same will happen with Kobe after he retires. He’ll be right up there with Jordan. Haters just watch and see

  • http://Slamonline.com nbk

    That’s not me.

  • JP7

Nutjugglers? Lmao not gonna lie that was pretty funny my dude

  • Red

I’m 20 so idk much about Wilt & them but I have read up on’em. NBK I feel that you just say random stuff & hope people care. And I’ll take your word Maniac but I’ll still take KAJ over Kobe.
