Video: Jason Smith Tackles Blake Griffin

Yeah, that’s gonna result in a suspension.

Jason Smith and the New Orleans Hornets’ crowd get zero points for seemingly celebrating the unnecessarily hard foul during Smith’s ejection.

this is what you get for trying to dunk on dudes all the time. try developing some finesse moves maybe.

  • Jer Boi

no place for this in the NBA. it ain’t football. not to mention the crowds cheering and Smiths egging em on. wth

  • RunNGun

The Clippers announcers are homers. That wasn’t a tackle at all. It looks bad from the back angle, but watch the replay at 1:10 again! Blake was going to run into him, so he braced himself for the impact. Nice flop, Blake.

  • Top$helf

That’s a NBA foul cause if u foul somebody like that where I hoop at you better be ready to throw them hands

  • abaci

Damn that was undoubtedly a cheap shot. Dudes dont want to be on a poster or have highlight shows running their failure on a constant loop. i’m surprised this doesn’t happen more.

  • http://www.streetbasket.lv Krisjanis

Around the 1.30 mark the commentators say something like ‘gingerly’ or somethin. Of course a ginger would walk very gingerly hahahaha

I think most people that play pick up ball would be ready to fight if they got fouled like that. And Griffin is so damn big there is no way he should go to the ground like that and fall out. I know Smith is pretty big as well but c’mon Blake. I’m starting to dislike him because of his flopping nature.

  • tomtom

It’s no secret that the least credible people in the NBA world are local announcers. Total over reaction on this one, it’s a hard foul and in todays NBA it’s an F1 but to say ‘there is no room in the NBA for this’ is just stupid. Hard foul, nice play, mega flop. Look how big and strong Blake is and the fact that he had the forward momentum on the play it was like a European Soccer dive! I want to see techs for flopping in future, it is the ugliest and most frustrating part of basketball right now. “have you EVER seen anything like that Chet!?” Ridiculous sensationalism, how can you be that bad at your job? and how about the hypocrisy of there admiration for CP3 going to ‘confront’ smith.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

Shortly after, Greg Williams paid Jason Smith $1500 and offered a double or nothing for a “carting”.

  • tomtom

    Lol @krisjanis

  • Heals

First reaction was it’s incredibly cheap, but then I get flashbacks of McHale-Rambis and think hmmmmmmmm. Then again NBA Finals vs Reg. Season and Arch-rivals vs a “welcome back home” game…

  • dp

LA is a good place for BG he is a great actor.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

“He’s walking gingerly away”… he has no choice.

  • Noel

Greg Williams would be proud lol. Smith looked like he was afraid of CP3 he knows what happened to Julius Hodge. BG has a future in pro wrestling

    SAY IT WITCHA CHEST

  • Bt

The clippers commentators are so bad “he always gets up, he’s never missed a game” (except an entire season), “have you ever seen a play like that in the last 15 years” (yes, yes I have, although I haven’t seen a player who flops as much as Blake in the last 15 years).

  • CubicleWorker

I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as it appears, Smith didn’t want to get postered and gave a bit of a shove

  • http://nba.com/celtics lights out

i don’t see a flop at all. watch at 1:22. smith clearly lowers his shoulder, runs into him full force and then leans into him. dirty, dirty play.

  • http://nba.com/celtics lights out

and if he didn’t want to be on a poster, just wrap him up. easy.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

That is a suspension. That’s worse than what Posey did against the Bulls years ago. There is no place for that in basketball.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

And co sign the hell out of TOP$HELF. People pretending like this was no big deal are lying.
On every court I’ve every hooped, cats would have been fighting after this unless the dude who got fouled was a punk. You don’t hit people like that in basketball.

  • markorsomething

It didn’t look like it there was intent to injure griffin. Seemed like he just wanted to foul him hard before Griffin could dunk on their @$$es. Smith just couldn’t react right. Clippers are right to worry and be mad.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

He lowered his shoulder and run full speed into a player! You can’t do that. He didn’t try to grab his arms or wrap him up. He body checked him in the open court.
James Posey did hte exact same thing to Kurt Hinrich and got ejected. It happened to someone else after that. That’s not even a basketball play. He made no play on the ball, he just hit him with his shoulder. Whether Blake flopped or not is irrelevant. It was a cheap shot. Cheap shots are made by punks. Play like a man.

  • LA Huey

Definitely a cheap shot. It annoys me how much Griff and LeBron will ham it up when they take a hard foul.
I will say the Clippers know how to respond when their teammate gets hit. I love how CP3 acts like he’s got the same body as Andre Jordan.

  • http://Slamonline Jimbo

Good foul, make him earn his buckets from the free throw line. Blake just flopped big time.

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

So, does Sean Payton have to pay Jason Smith or was this just a tryout?

  • AD

he hit em hard but blake is know to act, and try to bully people…. The andre miller did was worst than this lmao… Blake is a flopper but smith did hit em.

  • 23

blake is what.. 260? all muscle? he wasnt airborne… so yeah im callin him out as a flopper on this one. just because your big it doesnt mean your indestructable but come on. lets all be real here, blake did not need to fall to the floor like that.

  • http://slamonline.com badnewsballer

I watch quite a few clipper home games and i honestly cant stand their announcers.

  • LA Huey

By no means, did I mean Blake flopped on this one. Just that he should have bounced back up from that and got in Smith’s face along with the rest of the Clips. But it’s true, he and LeBron sell so hard.

  • LA Huey

And Blake was actually about to jump before Smith hit him. Probably wasn’t bracing himself for the hit as he often doesn’t when he smells a dunk. There’s a huge difference in how you make a move expecting to take a hit and when you move not expecting it.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Did y’all not notice how he gathered himself and was going up right when he got hit. Did you miss the fact that both of his feet got up over his head at one point.
Dude flops, but that wasn’t a flop. He was preparing to ham up any contact he got, and then he got walloped.

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

I say he should be fined but he doesn’t deserve a suspension. But it’s ok when Blake jumps all over a guys head without caring about the guy. Blake is a flopper and showboater so this happens. Plus he talks lots of trash according to just bout every opposing player. He deserved it…

  • Fat Lever

Let’s see what level of Stern’s Gangsa-ism is on display. Does he overrule the decision to suspend one of his own franchise’s players?

  • thetalkingcomb

It’s usually the crappy players that do this kinda shit. I’m not a big BG fan but this Smith fella obviously could not keep up with Blake, and was in no position to put up any D on him. Just a desperate and confused move from a desperate and confused player.

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

Cosign Allenp, everything you’ve said. You people who said he flopped on this are absolutely moronic. Watch the video again. His weight works AGAINST HIM on this play. Look how hard he lands on his f*cking shoulder, man. GTFOH with this “oh he just flopped” bullsh*t.

  • Top$helf

No matter how hurt I was I woulda hopped up and went at him instead of just laying there like Blake did at least get up and let your teammates hold you back

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

It’s weird to me that when people dislike a player they allow it to prevent them from assessing a situation honestly.

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

Guys get sick of seeing this guy constantly on Espn when his game has more holes than Swiss cheese. Add in the fact all the extra nonsense he does when he dunks on you and the trash he talks afterwards. How we know he wasn’t talkn ish the entire game.

  • RunNGun

If Blake Griffin were to have landed on his head, it wouldn’t have been a flop.

  • MUBWAR

where is the flop. we know blake is a FLOPPER but that was str8 hockey body check. cheap shot alert. Maybe even a 2 game suspension. Lebron and blake are about 260 of muscles but that doesn’t mean that they’re indestructible.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Kap
So you dislike him. But, in this situation he was wronged. You don’t have cheer for him, or think he’s one of the best power forwards in the League, but it is intellectually dishonest to deny reality simply because you don’t like someone.
If you think he deserved it, fine. But it still happened and it was still a cheap shot. He didn’t pretend to get hit.

  • dahive

what really disgusts me is that in the replay it seems like jsmith accelerates into BG during the last couple of steps…cheap and dirty as it gets

  • rmij

He deserved it. Look at the highlight when Nick Young dunked on Smith, Smith fell down and Blake stared him while he was down. so cocky.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    how that was bad.

  • http://dillanleuyahoo.com Holy Baller

Ya’ll are just ridiculous. This post is FULL of Blake haters. Educate yourselves and watch his stuff. Dude gets hammered ALL THE DAMN TIME. Look back at his college days and watch him get hit in the nuts, flipped over a dude’s back, crazy stuff like that all the time. Would you talk any trash? He’s not nearly the @sshole that Dwight Howard is, but has a more polished offensive game already than Howard has. You people will find anything to use against someone that you don’t like, for idiotic reasons.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Each time I see the replay of this flagrant foul, I don’t see what all the fuss is about. Truth be told, Jason Smith shouldn’t be suspended at all. If Jason Smith takes his hands and tries to “swipe” at the ball while he puts his weight into Blake Griffin he probably doesn’t even get ejected. Clippers look like ish lately.

  • Paul H

That was as flagrant as cheap shots come and has no place In modern basketball. Anyone who thinks he flopped Is just wrong, no way In hell Blake would have prepared for that happening and a guy with an extra 30 pounds would STILL have went to the ground. You want to stop a guy from dunking on you? Foul his godamn arms hard, that argument hold no weight whats so ever. As the commentator said that could seriously injure a player. 5 games at least.

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

I acknowledged the fact Smith should get fine which proves I think I was somewhat uncalled for but I’m just saying it was probably warranted knowing Griffins actions and ish talkn in the past. Its not hard to tell Stoudemire 2.0 is my favorite player but I did admit sort of that the play was dirty.

  • Paul H

That’s the equivalent of kicking a guy on the ground In a fight. A cheap shot that shows you up as a coward and a punk. He knows there will be know repercussions (such as Blake rightly knocking his head off), so he flattens a guy with no provocation. Unbelievable.
