Video: Mickael Pietrus Suffers Concussion

Pietrus: injury ‘could have been worse.’

Mikael Pietrus got tangled up going down the lane and took a scary fall in Friday’s loss to the 76ers. Contrary an initial flock of quick-to-exaggerate rumors, the latest update on Pietrus’ condition is encouraging. Pietrus has been cleared to travel and is scheduled to be seen by the Celtics team medical staff upon his return to Boston. ESPN has more details: “Initial tests performed Friday night on Boston Celtics guard Mickael Pietrus suggest he escaped serious head injury. Pietrus’ agent, William McCandless, said Saturday that he was informed the X-ray and CT scans administered Friday night revealed no abnormalities, though Pietrus might have a concussion. Although Pietrus will undergo more tests and is still waiting for conclusive results from an MRI, there’s optimism that he will indeed return to the court this season. Pietrus suffered the injury when he crashed hard to the floor Friday night during the second quarter of the Celtics’ 99-86 loss in Philadelphia. He was immobilized and taken from the court on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital. ‘He was a very lucky man,’ said McCandless, who spoke with Pietrus and said the player’s first question to an assistant at McCandless’ agency was who won the game. Pietrus was not admitted to the hospital, but spent the night in the area. He will fly home Saturday afternoon to Boston, where he will be re-evaluated by the Celtics’ medical staff.”

@Red, I hear ya somedays that’ll happen, very frustrating indeed. Can we get a Slamadaday of his dunk in 2nd qtr as a little get well soon gesture…

This was scary especially because he didn’t hit his head on the floor, but upon impact he immediately grabbed the back of his head. Maybe just the force of his head snapping back did it but I wish him a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the heads up Ryne, top5 is nice, but it’s still a Slamadaday to me (que whinny fan voice)…

Pietrus didn’t even hit his head. He should play soccer.

Those commentators are dicks. And really Rob? I mean his neck jerked back and he landed pretty hard on his back, considering he apparently threw up a lot on his way to hospital according to Doc that aint no faked injury, you want to see a flop? Watch Pau Gasol or Blake Griffin play one of these days man.

i was watching that game, and really was concerned about the guy’s neck. It was such an awkward landing. Could’ve been way worse, hopefully he’ll be okay soon.

Hope they called a Flagrant. Williams pulls down on Pietrus’ shoulder. Hope MP bounces back. He’s playing well for the C’s.
