Video: Teammates Kevin Love, JJ Barea Have a Brief Confrontation

A quick scuffle between two Minny teammates.

Both JJ Barea and Kevin Love chalked up the small confrontation on the bench to frustration from another tough loss for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Per the Star Tribune: “Barea stepped toward Love while the two exchanged words and Love rose from his seat on the bench until Luke Ridnour ushered Barea away and Martell Webster did the same with Love. By then, the Wolves’ third consecutive loss was all but assured, six days after they began this seven-game, 13-day road trip with a victory at Phoenix. [...] ‘Part of the game, competitors trying to win,’ Barea said. ‘We’re frustrated that we’re losing, but it happens, every basketball team. We just got into it. It’s all right. He said something I didn’t like, I said it back and we’re all good. Nothing against him.’ Barea shrugged his shoulders and walked out of the locker room toward the waiting team bus bound for Monday night’s game at Golden State while Love sat in full uniform, his feet in a bucket of ice, and stared dejectedly down after addressing media members. ‘It’s nothing personal with J.J.,’ Love said. ‘I think we’re both frustrated and we took it out on each other when we should have taken it out on the other team. That was both of our mistake, both of our bad.’”

rubio ment so much for this team, i think they r about to fall off hard

  • shm

Kevin Love NEEDS TO STI THE F DOWN and KISS JJ Barea’s ring.

  • Randy Brown

    WHITE FIGHT!

  • Michelle

@shm. First of all JJ needs to keep his mouth shut and stay healthy for 10 games in a row before doing some talking. 2nd of all he should kiss Love’s numbers and FG% because his own game has not been pretty(37%)
He was going to be the Wolves PG lmao

  • Never Stop

@Michelle all those numbers mean nothing. You want an example Lebron James. By the way Kevin Love is overrated, he makes those numbers because they don’t have nobody else.

  • LA Huey

I was laughing at Luke breaking it up with his drank in one hand.

  • Jer Dawg

Kevin and JJ were arguing over Minnesota’s cuisine over Puerto Rico’s. Which beef dish was better? Obviously, nobody agreed.

  • AD

@michelle why respond to smh lol…. this os overblown.. Teamates argue all the time. JJ should have stayed in dallas tho.

  • RunNGun

They were arguing over who had the better beard. Anyway, without Rubio, it’s obvious this team won’t make the playoffs.

  • Rik Smits Mullet

i think kevin love can make barea in to a small ball and slam dunk his behind.

  • startown

I knew we were in serious trouble when Rubio got hurt, he meant way more to this team than the casual fan realizes, his stats were good and all, but the team chemistry and his energy cannot be measured.

  • http://www.optimabbc.be Max

LOL at Ridnour, he looked like the kinda guy that tries to break up fights at partys

  • myk_H

AD wins best comment. 2 adults will get over it fast. Especilly when you’re making millions doin’ what you love. Stuff happens. :o )

  • http://www.nesn.com/2012/02/kobe-bryant-says-hes-better-than-michael-jordan-second-to-wilt-chamberlain-as-best-nba-player-ever-v.html shutup

I dont think they were gonna make the playoffs even with Rubio to be honest, but the conversation probably went something like this…JJ-pass the ball scruffy gringo. Love- what part of mexico is puerto rico anyway you lil hobbit. JJ- dont make sick the chupa cabra on you. Ridinour- donde es tu queso?, sientate por favor.

  • myk_H

By the way, people throwing their hands up worried about this team shouldn’t. They have good players that are capable of winning games and a supperb coach. JJ and Love are 2 players that crave winning and they got frustrated. Plus all of them are on a slump right now trying to figure things out. It’s not the first time they lose 3 in a row but hopefully it’s their last.

  • Mark

I think JJ is the only person that does not fit on this team. JJ is out for himself only, is a ball hog to the highest degree and the players are frustrated with him. JJ needs to go. Everyone else plays team ball.

  • IamYOU

This aint nothing compare to big baby (when he was still in boston) and garnett quarrel. just sayin..

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I’m with shutup on this one. Minn wasn’t making the playoffs. Kevin Love isn’t as good as people are advertising him to be, his stats are, but he doesn’t make a team a winner. It should say something when Ricky Rubio has more of an effect on the teams success, even though the difference in impact is comparatively minimal.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

I remember the first time a girl kissed my FG%, oh to be young again…

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Kevin Love is as good as he’s being advertised. Unless your advertising him as one of the best PF’s ever. LaMarcus Aldridge doesn’t help you win any more than K-Love. Their defense is on par these days with how little Aldridge grabs boards and his lack of rim protecting.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Maybe over the last 2 weeks Aldridge doesn’t help you win. But considering he carried them into the playoffs last year, uh, no. And their defense is nowhere near at the same level. Kevin Love gets 14 rebounds a game because he doesn’t play ANY help defense. Not because he is even a decent defensive player.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Doesn’t matter, Dirk is still the best PF in the league. Then Aldridge, Bosh, or Gasol, & then Kevin Love, Zach Randolph, Garnett – everyone else.

  • http://cechicagorilla@aol.com yada

    it happens

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

@nbk – Fine. Can we say that Kevin Love is the best rebounder in the League that plays PF?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

No doubt. Dude is still a top 5 PF, i just think the “best PF in the league” conversation is premature, he at least should play in the playoffs first. Remember how good people thought Carlos Boozer was until the playoffs year after year? (not saying Kevin Love is Carlos Boozer at all, just using an example)

  • Love doesn’t care about defense but he still is a top pf. I agree with nbk despite the mavs record dirk is still the best pf. Also supercoolbeas is one calm dude.

  • startown

Kevin Love is a definite winner, great player, putting up historical numbers, but this team needs Rubio, that being said, we do have some other talent, D Williams is playing great and Pekovic is a beast, we need two things; shooting guard who can really score and a long athletic big shot blocker to defend the rim, we are close to the bottom in blocked shots.

  • dma

“you’re over-rated and over-paid”. “no you’re over-rated and over-paid. and you’re short”. “well i can still see your baby blubber, chunky”

  • myk_H

@Mark – When JJ makes 17 – 20 points (seldom, I admit), no-one complains. When JJ hands out 7 – 8 assists, no-one complains. He has a slump and some people go crazy. Last I heard, before this slump, JJ was 3rd in the team in +/-. Last night JJ was trying too hard to make things happen and they didn’t happen. Check how many players were under 42.8% shooting last night; 5, not JJ. Check how many players last night had worse than -9 +/-; 5, not JJ. I see the same thing here that I saw in Dallas. Too many fans want to blame everything on JJ, all the time. you can’t blame him for getting frustrated. Well now, he really doesn’t have to take the crap cause he has the ring to prove he can contribute to a championship team. And he didn’t win it while sitting on the bench; he earned it. Sorry for venting people, but gees!

  • myk_H

@dma – the shorty was a starter in the last 3 games of the 2011 NBA Finals and his team won the series. ‘nough said! :)

  • samtab

KEVIN LOVE IS A BEAST AND NOT OVERRATED, THATS WHY HE WON THE 3 POINT CONTEST AND LEBRON DIDN’T. IF THE TIMBERWOLVES DIDN’T HAVE LOVE WHERE WOULD THEY BE?

  • samtab

KEVIN LOVE IS A BEAST AND NOT OVERRATED, THATS WHY HE WON THE 3 POINT CONTEST AND LEBRON DIDN’T. IF THE TIMBERWOLVES DIDN’T HAVE LOVE WHERE WOULD THEY BE??

  • logues

    nbk is a love hater

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    samtab is a Love lover.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Samtab, without Love the timberwolves would not be a play team. With Love the timberwolves aren’t a playoff team either. They’re currently 11th place in the western conference and have remained a lottery team since he was drafted. Was your post serious?!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Saying a guy is a top 5 PF is hate now? that’s comical.

  • startown

The wolves will get there next year

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

I agree startown. Wolves in the playoffs next year is a guarantee. So long as no one dies that is part of the core.

  • myk_H

There we go. Sensible talk from @startown and @LakeShow…

  • BBaller

@Samtab I don’t think Lebron won the 3 point comp becoz he didn’t enter.Love is top 5 no doubt.Where are the T-Wolves with him though?

  • BBaller

    *Sorry Lebron won or lost

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

BBaller, I think he is undisputed top 3 now. I don’t mind not giving him the top spot because he has to prove himself through playoffs and such, but 25-14 is a top 3 PF in any era.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    Meanwhile Darko’s just chillin’.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Love is clearly the best rebounder in the league… Him or Dwight Howard–that’s it. If Lamarcus Aldridge played zero defense and stood around the hoop all game waiting for boards he still wouldn’t be grabbing 14 a game, let’s be real.

  • CT

It’s no big deal, guys are frustrated because they are losing. Barea is a winner, he’s shorter than most of us posting here, but he’s an NBA champion. He played a huge role too, for example he had a killer 3 in game 6 when Miami was making a big run and cut the lead down to 4. The guy has some serious cajones, I bet he’d get himself a super hot girl even if he was just a regular guy, women love men like him. I doubt there’s any major underlying beef and they’ll probably get along even better after clearing the air.

  • http://www.slamonline.com house

It’s healthy, (usually) to have confrontations like this, especially when a tried and true vet like Barea is in the exchange. Guys like that lift teams and make them better.
