Video: Chitown Trailer
A sneak peek at the upcoming documentary featuring some of Chicago’s finest HS ballers.
Without question, the current epicenter of high school hoops is Chicago. Former and current Windy City natives are dominating on every level and the bevy of talent only seems to grow with each passing season. That talent was put on full display during last year’s inaugural Chicago United Hoops Classic which pitted some of the best high school seniors from the West Side of Chicago against young ballers from the South Side of the city.
While shooting on location for a separate project, director Nick Budabin caught wind of the game and unearthed a story that goes much deeper than just basketball. Budabin discovered two communities ridden with gun violence but held together by the love of the game and the hope that these young men will better their lives through their immense talents. The result: Chitown, an intriguing project that features an indelible cast of characters. Woven between tales of basketball lore lies the true core of the documentary; the gun violence that plagues the area and a community bound together to stop it.
Unfortunately, great projects like this don’t come cheap. So, if you are interested in learning more about the project and donating to post-production costs, visit the film’s Kickstarter page. Be sure to check the trailer above and stay tuned as SLAM will be bringing you more from both the documentary and this year’s Chicago United Hoops Classic.
