Video: Kevin Garnett Thanks Atlanta Hawks Co-Owner for ‘Extra Gas’

KG sounds off after Celtics win.

Atlanta Hawks co-owner Michael Gearon Jr. called Kevin Garnett “the dirtiest guy in the League” prior to last night’s Game 6 between the Boston and Atlanta. Needless to say, things didn’t turn out so well for Michael, and KG made sure to let him know all about it during the postgame presser. From the Boston Herald: “First off I want to say thank you to their owner for giving me some extra gas tonight,’ Garnett said. ‘My only advice to him is next time he opens his mouth actually know what he’s talking about — X’s and O’s versus his checkbook and the bottom line.’ Later, KG added, ‘We’re not dirty. We play aggressive. We’re not dirty. You have to understand the word dirty in this game is very defined — going under guys, trying to hurt guys, ill intent. That’s not the way we play basketball. We play very, very respectable to the opponent, the city we’re in, the game. We play with a lot of passion, play with force. It’s the playoffs. I haven’t been here trying to hurt anybody, nor has my team. I just found that comment to be a little rude and a little out of hand, and I wanted to address it. Just because you’ve got a bunch of money don’t mean you can open your mouth.’”

Coming from Aus where every sports star seems to repeat the same scripted response, it’s so refreshing to hear players who actually speak their mind. Gotta love Ticket on this one. You can just see and feel dude’s passion.

This was hilarious last night, Rondo and KG killing it. Nothing in particular, but just how the 2 interacted with each other and responded to the questions. “Good job Kevin”…

Bring on the Sixers! KG playing like his old/young self. Now just to make sure the rest of the team doesn’t fall apart. Everybody’s banged up.

he speaks the truth ..damn im gunna miss kg when he retires..just like hi def said..most of the time all these players just give you the same scripted response trying to stay politically correct.

Celtics now get the Sixers in round 2. SMH, what a cake walk it will be for them to the ECF’s. They earned it though…they won the Atlantic.

I don’t know if he’s the ‘dirtiest player in the league’, but he can’t back up the comments he made here.

Kobe played with “extra gas” last night too.

  • bike

Point being, ‘dirty’ is subject to interpretation.

  • mugiwara

nothing dirty about the way either team played this series. stupid owner.

Orange, it’s a bitter pill to digest, huh? The fact that the Sixers are moving on to the 2nd round while Amare will be doing PSA’s for Kidde Fire Extinguishers? Philly matched up well with Boston, and I don’t think this will be a cake walk for either team. This will be another physical, defensive series. I love it. This will be a really emotional series.

Loved watching some vintage KG last night. He actually looked for his shot when he got the rock instead of looking to pass first. Hopefully they can keep rolling.

@Bobby LMAO at that being your evidence that KG is a dirty player. If you saw that game when he elbowed QRich, you’d know exactly why he did it. And being an occasional d-bag, is not the same as being a dirty player.

Never thought trash talking was considered dirty. Guess ya learn something everyday.

Most of the commenters are the same jerk offs who show up for the playoffs and go hey KG looks like the player of old. KG has been awesome for years. He had one tough year fighting off that bad injury. Even then he worked and worked and worked dragging his leg around. I have been watching this team EVERY TIME they play and let me tell you this is nothing new to this guy it’s just new to all of you!!!!!

    Words hurt T-Ray.

  • smoove

@Bobby ..If you consider trash talk to be a factor for being labeled dirty..you shouldnt watch basketball.football..etc…go watch syncronized swimming. its part of the sports culture they are grown men..gimmie a break

    I suppose you’re right dfrance.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

@ LA Huey – Kobe also played dirty last night…

Wow. Has it really been that long since the 90′s? Now everybody who doesn’t play nice plays dirty. KG is no Oakley.

  • Iggi

Stupid Owners should shut-up when it comes to playing the game. We the fan we don’t care about what the owners have to say, infact we dislike you. The whole lock-out thing we blame it on you.

  • Iggi

If trash talking is dirty than atleast 80% of NBA player are dirty. Go suck on a limon and make some faces.

  • LA Huey

Wayno, probably. Doesn’t strike me as the type to use baby wipes after a poo.

  • KG is Dirty

Is punching a guy in the balls not dirty? Let’s ask Channing Fry.

Weird – I never actually said he was dirty (read the comment), just said he couldn’t back up the comments he made. Strange how nobody seems to have read that. Also, I didn’t say that trash talking is dirty, I was just pointing out that it doesn’t fit with showing respect for your opponent, which is what garnett claims he does…
