Video: Kobe Bryant Says Lakers Can’t Guard the OKC Thunder




Kobe Bryant, fresh off of a Game 1 beatdown in the second round series against the OKC Thunder, sarcastically and hilariously responded to a local reporter’s question about the Lakers’ ability (or lack thereof) to slow down their opponents.

    its true, Blake got abused by Westbrook like 3 straight times, the Thunder were on fire. I expect game 2 to be a bit closer, but don’t see the Lakers having an answer for the Thunder.

    Did anyone really expect the Thunder not to come out on fire? Bynum running his mouth about “WE need defense”. MWP and his UFC elbows, and they are at home!! Thats a bad combination for any team. One of the main issues is Kobe can no longer carry the Lakeshow. Its basically like 1 on 3. And even with Kobe being as great as he is…its too much when you have talents such as KD, RW and JH on the other end. The matchups are all basically in the favor of OKC. Especially at the PG spot. And with Westbrook being a shoot first guard…its definitely trouble for Blake and Sessions, who pay defense like 2nd graders. I would love to see this series go to 6 or 7 but I feel OKC will take it in 4 or 5! They are and have been the hungrier team!

    Heals, it’s a dumb question because there really isn’t a good answer for it. If Kobe said yes, then the reporter would be like “well why didn’t you do that tonight?” – the only option was a sarcastic and angry “no” – so the question was basically rhetorical.

    @the king….Kobe washed up? Bum? Those words to describe Kobe shows what BT is saying to be completely accurate. Granted for the 1st half of the season Kobe was a chucker. But he also damn near won the scoring title (but based on an injury and decision to rest) KD took it. Just proof that Kobe still can get it done, with the best of them. Arguably the best player still in the L (many would say 1-3, with the other 2 being LBJ and KD). But to say Kobe is done is utterly stupid! Please know what youre talking about before you give your biased opinions!

    Off topic but I observed something yesterday that I wish would catch on in the NBA. Westbrook came down and posted Blake. Banged him about 3 times in the chest and on the 3rd bump Blake fell. Actually looked offensive to me, but the ref looked at it like a flop and didn’t call anything and Westbrook scored. The very next time down Westbrook took him in the post again and banged him just as hard and Blake stood his ground and played D. It was just a little proof that if the refs don’t reward the flops, the players will learn to stop.

    What Allen said. It’s not that dumb of a question, just phrased poorly. You could interpret it as: “You clearly couldn’t guard them tonight. What changes are you going to make, as a team, to do a better job of stopping them?” Kobe was obviously pissed so he acted slightly dickish. I’m cool with it. Phrase your question better.

    @dfrance: that’s exactly what i thought of that whole sequence. But it was a flop, on the replay when blake fell, he looked exactly at the ref while falling.

    @king….He rested because he was injured. Look at the Spurs. Ginobli, Duncan and Parker (who just turned 29) all rested for the playoffs. And none of them had injuries. It was a smart decision to rest for the most intense part of the season. All of your comments are biased against Kobe, and if you dont like him, then fine…that your opinion…but dont make ish up that isnt accurate. If you are going to debate greatness…make valid points. And again, Kobe “could have” gotten the scoring title, but its not about individual awards with him. Why go out and risk injury and miss the playoffs. What chance would the Lakers have without him? If you think running the offense through any other Laker is going to get a ring for them, then your obviously high or purely immature!
