Did LeBron James Foul Kevin Durant on Final Shot? (VIDEO)

No-call causes heated debate.

Though the players and coaches on both sides of the issue refused to offer pointed commentary on the controversy (despite the media’s best and futile attempts), the debate among fans was very heated, when it came to whether or not LeBron James got away with a foul on Kevin Durant’s final shot in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Your thoughts?

    apparently not…

  • http://www.fivedollarleases.com Best Beats Online

He actually fouled twice in the same play !! He fouled Durant on the shot and Westbrook on the rebound!! They were both obvious and the ref was standing right there!! There’s no excuse for the no call!!

  • http://www.hellomynameisjuan.com/ kilinkis

It was clearly a foul. Lebron is not guilty though for the refs trying to help him. The refs should be punished instead. I hope Lebron never wins a Champ on this terms.

  • Coggie13

Wasn’t called so no he wsan’t Did Reggie Miller foul Jordan when he hit the buzzer beater to win the game? Stupid.

  • John

definitely fouled him, but the Heat earned that win.

  • OkC

Hell yeah they should have went into OT

YES HE DID… It Wasn’t A HARD FOUL But It Was A FOUL, I’ll ADMIT That… and So Was The 2 FOULS That They Didn’t Call DURANT on… The FOUL LATE In The 4TH When LEBRON Drove In On Him But They Didn’t Call It and When SHANE BATTIER Took The CHARGE… They Didn’t Call That Either So FAIR IS FAIR!!!

  • http://www.newyorkshockexchange.com Shock Exchange

There was no foul there. You can’t penalize James for being stronger than Durant. Good physical playoff basketball.

  • OkC

The heat “earned” the win so the refs don’t call that foul they called that all night

  • Marc

He fouled westbrook worst. Lol he blatantly pulled his hand causing a disadvantage of play on the ball therefore the foul should have been called. But was it? no. So lets get over it and move on to the next game.

Lebron’s forearm was everywhere on that drive: pushing at KD’s chest, extended to KD’s elbow and arms, and finally pushing down on KD’s leg when he was trying to jump up for the shot. That last one definitely messed up the shot, since it halted KD’s jump and disrupted the shot

  • Coggie13

@ti-Sizzle tell me where the push is? Holding your arm up is not pushing. A physical specimen like that is not going to move the same way a spiny little thing like KD is going to is he. It was fair defence in my opinion.

  • Layzie

When MIA wins its controversial? Missed calls goes both ways. That was still a makeable shot for Durant. He just missed. MIA earned that win. Suck it up and move on. Still a long series.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba ti-sizzle

@Coggie13 I should have made it more clear. I meant it started with that, but really the emphasis is hitting under KD’s arm and elbow as he was going up and I really think impeding KD’s upward jump motion by having an arm on his leg as he was going up is HUGE. it’s just not as apparent or noticeable

  • http://www.nba.com Gman

They never call fouls on last minute lay ups.

  • Kent Kanada

When you look at a single 5-10second replay you can nit pick every bit of contact. Whether it warranted a foul call? I don’t think so, at all.

  • bike

The debatable contact by LeBron did not in any way significantly alter Durant’s shot. He makes that baseline shot 9 out of 10 times. He just missed it. If that had happened in the second quarter no one would have remembered it by halftime.

  • http://www.nba.com Redd

And the refs kept KD from fouling out after Battier got the offensive foul that they didn’t call.

  • Mvpitzki

That was obviously a foul, according to the NBA rule book but, it’s just one of those plays where it could go either way based on what the officials believe is enough contact. This was also a stupid play by the Thunder and Durant as they had about 12 seconds to develop a play and instead the posted Durant up on LeBron with 8 seconds remaining (WTF were they thinking). Durant shoulda pump faked at least or they shoulda inbounded to Harden as he would have developed a play to free up Durant.

  • TV63

I believe this happen to Rondo in game 2 in the last seconds of the game. Refs sucked in this game but OKC has to play better in the 1st half. It’s weird they are playing bad in the 1st half like Miami did in the Boston series. Westbrook is driving me crazy in the 1st half!!

  • baller23

Obviously he foul Durant & Westbrook! who didnt not see that mmm ref! I guess u Miami fans are also blind aka Ray Charles. lol

  • Kobester

    No foul.

  • Stephan

KD has just missed it. There is a lot of contact in there but it always has a lot of contact bellow the rim. KD have just missed it. He could get closer to the rim to a lay and have the foul called more efficiently. But that way, it was impossible for a ref just hit that call correctly.

He made a mistake. It happens. BTW, awesome 4th quarter. KD really has a freaking cold blood in his veins. But heat in 5. That’s by bet.

  • LA Huey

There were missed calls both ways it all evened out. Pretty tough angle for the refs to be able to see that in real-time. Hell, that was pretty tough to see with a good angle in real-time.

  • King23

Thank you Refs we needed the win …i’ll buy you guys cookies

  • http://slamonline.com Caboose

Did fisher foul barry in 08? Did nbks dad foul my sack? Important questions abound

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba ti-sizzle

You all try making a shot with a forearm hitting you under your elbow and arm, with the said forarm then impeding your jump. With KD’s leg going up like that, holding it down had a huge impact. You will definitely feel it and mess up the shot. But like I said it’s just a subtle foul that goes under the radar. Either way, I do realize that if they did call it and KD got the freethrows, all the pundits would still crucify the refs for altering the game. However, 9 times out of 10 Wade gets that call gua-ran-teed!

  • billups

I kinda wanna say that was playoff basketball….

  • billups

yall are overreacting, Lebrons forearm was caught underneath KD’s for about split second, quite acutely I might add he didn’t extend it or try to contest the shot with it, just tried to snag it outta there before the whistle was blown…maybe just me

  • Rayrayjr

Yes fouls SHOULD’VE obviously been called on Durant or Wesbrook! But, they aren’t fouls unless they get called. Sucks but what can we do? Let the coaches carry a red flag (like NFL coaches do) to throw on the court to challenge a call, or a non call in this situation?

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

Pshh as a Spurs fan I have no sympathy for OKC and missed calls. OKC got every single call their way in the Conference Finals, tough titty for them

  • tpathi1

it looked like lebrons was in KD’s shirt (good defense), i think the part where he hit KD’s chest was a foul..and then when he went down and hit his leg i would’t necessarily say its a foul, you can argue that KD put his leg up like that to create space…it definately was not a ‘mugging’ like the one reporter tried to get KD to fess up to..KD a g tho as usual he was like “i missed the shot man, it was not a foul” – seemed a little ticked off at the reporter

  • http://www.twitter.com/_dfrance dfrance21

It was a foul. It is very hard to tell how the contact affected the shot if you’re watching it in real time. Not a major miss by the refs to me.

  • Sean

Foul but in all honesty the referees called it fairly down the stretch. Not letting them off the hook for the missed call don’t get me wrong but the game was otherwise called fairly. Easy to forget influence of the environment in that kind of situation too…

  • http://blackamericaweb.com charliewinning

I think it was a foul but it wasn’t a shot altering foul. Durant could’ve still made it. The Heat still earned the win with those big shots and clutch free throws so let’s not act like they were handed the game.

  • Jono

Did LeBron touch his leg yes. Did LeBron touch his shooting arm? No. Therefore it is not a foul. Read the full book people. If you’re drunk on hate then you’re just a sad sad individual.

  • LP

Definitely wasn’t a foul on Durant when Battier ran underneath him to take that charge, i’m glad they called the blocking foul…ALSO, that 2 points they gave BOSH after he had his shot blocked GREATLY AFFECTED the game. WOW, i almost forgot about that…

  • Conor

    This was an obvious foul.
The first half’s supposed goaltending was a travesty. David Aldridge, Joe Crawford, and Stern all need to leave the game.

  • tpathi1

any of you guys watch espn and the ref segment with steve javie? I was calling for something similar to this, but ESPN’s version of this is so dumb..they have a former officials who will always be the ‘company man’ look at plays and disect them after the fact..i respected his thoughts and his insight when he said the ref couldn’t see the play cause he wasnt in position..but what about the block called on battier or any of the other questionable calls in the game (if there were any)…just the fact that espn now can isolate a single play and then receive validation from a former ref after the fact can sway the audiences opinions..they need to have javie in the studio so the commentators can go to him DURING the game

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

  • Marc

I don’t think he fouled durant but he obviously fouled westbrook pulling his hand back. And @jono i get what your saying about the shooting arm foul but if you get hit in your leg it can affect your balance when shooting.

  • @boweezy24

Illuminati Wants Him To Get His Ring, Refs Are Going to Help The Best They Can.

  • Darryl

The foul happen when he wasn’t in motion to score so it wouldn’t have been a shooting foul. SO the refs had to let the play, air out. The Heat had a foul to give plus there was contact like that and worse by both teams where the res let them play. But the refs had called a lot of air fouls on both teams that night so to end on the night would have been a travesty.

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

Even if they missed the foul on Durant, which was hard to see real time, the foul on Russ was blatant, he just pulled his damn arm away. People saying you can’t blame Lebron, you kinda can. This is the second time I’ve seen a Miami player pin or grab the hand of a player on the other team and get away with it in a big game. Chalmers did the same thing to Rondo, just grabbed his wrist and held it, and Lebron just pulled Russ’ hand away because he knew he’d get away with it. He didn’t make a play on the ball, he was just trying to prevent the Thunder from getting the boards by grabbing them. It’s illegal, unacceptable, and the Chris Bosh “goal-tend” basket was equally ridiculous.

  • Bill

KD took two dribbles from the opposite free throw line on the way to a dunk at the other end of the court, but let’s just whine about the missed calls on the Heat…2 dribbles. One of MANY missed calls for both sides. The refs suck this playoffs.

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

This really isn’t that much of a foul

  • http://Slam Daryl

Sadly, Thunder’s efforts to get it into overtime were denied by bad “no call fouls”.But as a purist they have decided to let everybody double dribble, walk, push, shove, and carry the ball. Sad.

  • coggie13

When i watch in full speed i never see the westbrook foul

both were definatly fouls fukc stern

    cosign ti sizzle

  • Joe King

    no foul imo

  • dywm

I think if it was a tie for the win, the no-call is the right way to go. But when there is clearly contact and it puts the game in the SUPERSTAR’s hands with the opportunity to force a frukcnin overtime for the ages, then YES its a foul. Instead of a sense of fairness and sportsmanship millions of people get left with a yucky taste in their mouth…almost like the game, and the communal understanding of what’s ‘right’ for it, have been stolen from the people and given to sponsors and a small group of men sitting around a big fat table.

  • dywm

    * if it was a no-call to tie it up…ffuu

  • chillout

    1. foul not called “that was a foul you have to call that. can’t let that just go.”

    2. foul called “the refs are ruining the game. You have to let the players play and make the last minute plays on their own.”

  • Bj Kain

Im not crying “Conspiracy” But the calls are pathetic and w/out them truly believe that Thunder would be winning the series. Every game has been down to 2 points and if Heat do no get these huge calls they do not gain that advantage.
Weak ass 4 fouls. Huge turn of events. Rick Berry stated that these series of bad no fouls called against Durrant were the turning point of the game.
Sef rips Wade and gets hammered in back of head should have been And1.
Bron fouls Kevin 3 Xs no call then travels.
    Chambers mugs Harden
No call travel got blocked then walked two steps is travel anyother player
Free two points for Bosh after block
    phantom And1
No call Tec right in front of ref

  • jec

Yes, LeBron fouled him, but it no longer matters.
