Jonas Valanciunas Throws Down Alley-oop Off The Glass (VIDEO)

Lithuanian center shows why he was the No. 5 pick.

It’s been a rough couple of years for the Toronto Raptors, but this year, help may be on the way. No, the Raptors didn’t succeed in bringing Steve Nash back home to Canada, but they do have Jonas Valanciunas, a 20-year-old 7-footer who they took with the fifth pick in the ’11 NBA Draft. Experts say that had Valanciunas been in this year’s Draft, he would have been the No. 2 pick. In Lithuania’s Olympic tune up against Iceland yesterday, he showed why.

i know little to nothing about this guy(only seen his highlights on youtube) but i am very interested to see what his game is exactly, and to see if he can actually improve the raptors significantly.

    Hmmm… He’s kinda beast-ish.

One nasty dunk and toronto fans are all pump. This guy is a scrub, just like the raptors. Move the franchise to B-more!!

  • LA Huey

I’ve seen him ball in a handful of Euroleague games and overwhelms with his athleticism and not much else. I’m interested to see what he does in a league where the speed, quickness, leaping, is a notch above FIBA.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Kind of crazy this cat threw an off the glass alley-oop in traffic. That’s wild.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

this guy should be a pretty good player. this doesn’t illustrate that at all.

  • http://www.champs.com Reggie06

Pretty nasty dunk but i have to admit it if he wasnt 7 feet tall it wouldve been blooper of the year

    Nice dunk by the way.

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

This kid is the real deal… nbk troll doesn’t know what he’s talking about. There is a reason why experts say that he would have been the second pick this year.

  • greg

^^^ i dont think he was serious, thats why troll is in his name. val wont be that good next year he needs to get strong enough, as is he wont be a good defensive rebounder, but in 2 years it will come together for him

  • http://www.dimemag.com Showtime

Still think Donatas Motiejunas will be the better pro .. thou

  • Da-Meat-Hook

The dunk wasn’t all that great. Nothing any average athlete over 6’3 couldn’t do. But Jonas is gonna be a solid pro once he develops some strength. From what I’ve read and seen, experts are saying he’s very similar in build, athletic ability, heart, and basketball iq to J. Noah.

  • http://www.xvideos.com nbk troll

My comment was honestly less about val, and more about the worthless Toronto raptors. The raptors are always getting high draft picks and what do they have to show for it ???? They are by far the worst NBA franchise (bobcats close second). Just going off of how poor Toronto is I doubt val will be anything special, and if he is all that expect him to leave ASAP. There are real basketball towns that deserve a team.

  • ShowTime

Hi Mr. TrollMan. The raptors are actually not the worst team in the nba and haven’t been for a very long time now! They’ve have had mild sucess considering every star wants to leave eventually and considering the raptors came in the the league in 1996 that’s better then a few teams in the nba. :) For example your reference to Bobcats…you hear me? Anyways back to the raptors..Toronto is as good a City and Market, after the couple of obvious teams, in the nba therefore your opinion is false and quiet arrogant. Pls mention which City you live in if you don’t mind. One more thing, the raptors went from 29th to 15th in defense and had the 8th worst team in the nba without our leading Scorer! This. Year we’ve added Kyle (elite defensive point guard only getting better as a PG) and Jonas Mutha F’in Valanciunas! Noah with higher ceiling and better offesively! I hope you regret your statement fool! Thanks yours truly from TDOT!:D

  • Yep

I think Toronto and its fans like where they are at lol. That place seems pretty chill. They still fill the arena. They like having a good time without winning. To each their own.

  • ShowTime

Troll and Dave Wannabe (Yep) should stfu:/

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

ok nba troll… the Toronto Raptors are worth something. They are worth something to all of Canada. They are by far not the worst NBA franchise. The Bobcats are worse. The Hornets (last season) were worse. The Nets were worse last year and they had Deron Williams. Val is something special if you would spend the time looking him up before making ignorant comments. He won’t leave because Toronto is an international city and has always been kind to international players. Toronto is a MUCH better city than Detroit, Cleveland, and such. He won’t leave ASAP because Klieza, a fellow Lithuanian is on that team. He won’t leave ASAP because he’s 20, and has a bright future, and he understands Toronto, in a few years, will be great.

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

Oh yeah, and if they suck why do you want them in Baltimore? Isn’t Joe Flacco bad enough for you guys?

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

@Jimbo: because there is a big number of us american players who simply dont want to play in canada if they have the choice to also play in the usa. thats also one reason why the last exciting squad there left with vince carter and his cousin. move the raps to bmore and theyd automatically have more free agents showing interest into the franchise.^

  • http://www.xvideos.com nbk troll

Jumbo I’m sure Toronto is a great place to live and raise kids etc… But the raptors have NEVER accomplished anything of importance. Have they ever reached the second round??? As we will see in the Olympics during the summer, the best ballers are from the USA! American players would prefer to not play in another country (Steve Francis), so big time free agents ain’t coming. Yes other teams have had worst records but atleast those teams have a history of winning they can hang their hat on. The raptors are a worthless franchise, just a team to fill the schedule for other teams.

  • ReHeat

^^I think you could rephrase the last part to something like ‘They’re one of 25 teams that are worthless and just fill the schedule for 5 contenders.’

  • bigA

    Nbk troll is worthless.

  • MUBWAR

when someone calls themselves nbk troll something is missing or you’re a kid.

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

First, its Jimbo not Jumbo. Second, do any of the following teams have a winning record: 1. Charlotte Bobcats 2. New Orleans Hornets 3. Minnesota Timberwolves. The list can go on. And why are you talking about USA basketball? No one said they suck. You are automatically assuming all the big time names would go to Baltimore? Sorry, no. A tea is a team no matter where they play. If the raptors play well and advance in the playoffs, big names will start coming. Players like to win. Not to play in Baltimore.

  • http://www.xvideos.com nbk troll

17 seasons. 5 playoff appearances. 4 first round exits…..oh yeah and kobe dropped 81 on yall head.

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

First, we’ve had more playoff appearances then every proffesional basketball team from the state of Maryland combined. And oh yeah, you mind showing me how many playoff wins the Bobcats have?

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

Why not take the Bobcats and move them to Baltimore? Oh because they all ready play in the States? That’s a really good reason.

  • http://www.xvideos.com nbk troll

Jumbo yeah those teams suck now too, but atleast Minnesota had kg and went to the western conference finals that time and pushed shaq and kobe to the limit. Atleast Chris Paul took the hornets to the western conference finals. Atleast Charlotte had lj and alonzo, and the greatest player ever as their owner. And the list goes on for every team. Let’s look @ the grizzlies shall we. They also were in Canada and did jack $hit. They moved to the states and struggled for a minute but now are a playoff team who can compeat with anybody. It don’t gotta be Baltimore, it can be any town in the us. As long as they are in Canada they will struggle.

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

OK first MICHAEL JORDAN IS A BAD OWNER. Second, what big names, I mean REALLY big names have any of these teams signed? None. Its called the draft and trading. Instead of annoying everybody with your comments, go troll another site. Oh yeah ITS JIMBO NOT JUMBO.

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

So your argument is that only American teams can draft and trade well.

  • http://www.xvideos.com nbk troll

And remember dude I said the bobcats were a close second to worst franchise. They have a better chance of turning that crap around than the raptors. Players don’t mind playing there. Maryland has produced way more and way better basketball players than all of Canada! Do some research on the Baltimore bullets before u talk down on Maryland too.

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

The historically worst franchise in ANY DAMN SPORT has a better chance? Idiot. And I sure remember the Baltimore Bullets, they were the most feared franchise of never because those bullets turned into today’s wizards.

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

Oh sorry the Bullets won a championship before your grandmother was born.

  • http://www.xvideos.com nbk troll

My argument is that because Toronto is another country American players would prefer not to be there. They would rather play in California or Miami not cold ass foreign country Toronto. So even if Toronto has a good draft ( not often by the way) the players leave in free agency ( tmac, bosh) thus creating this 17 year cycle of losing that shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

  • http://slamonline Jimbo

    Your wrong.

  • troll hunter

This isn’t the 1950s, nbk troll. You don’t get territorial rights in the draft. It really doesn’t matter how many great players Maryland has produced because THEY HAVE TO PLAY WHERE THEY’RE DRAFTED. Toronto’s not a country by the way, but thanks for that.

If you understood the new CBA, you ‘d realize that player preferences for climate are going to become increasingly difficult to fulfill.

Quick, nbk- name the last time Toronto had a high draft pick in a strong draft? 2006- let’s see. Bargnani- not the best choice, however, #3 (run by the ‘greatest basketball player of all time) is playing in the summer league. Tyrus Thomas never did anything. Brandon Roy RETIRED and is going to try to play on no cartilage (good luck with that) Aldridge was okay and should have been drafted higher, but played the same position as Bosh.

last few drafts? #9 pick, #13 pick, #8 pick? You do know that in order to get a franchise type player it’s nearly always in the top 3? ‘Nearly’ being the qualifier here. Look back over the past 20 years and that’s generally the case.

You don’t understand the NBA, nbk.

  • troll hunter

By the way, Earl Monroe was from Philly, not Baltimore.

  • troll hunter

    nbk troll,
Using your logic, the following teams should have been contracted or relocated as well (using the 17 year rule)
    LA Clippers
    Milwaukee Bucks
    New Jersey Nets
    Washington Bullets
    Golden State Warriors
All of which had higher lottery picks on a consistent basis than Toronto.
Clippers, Bullets, and Golden State definitely stand out here.

You could make a case for Dallas as well between 1992 and 2000 but that would be pretty petty. Does Toronto have an 8 year drought yet?

Is Toronto’s attendance and their profit margin in the bottom 3 of the league? Oh wait…Despite mediocrity on the court, it isn’t.

  • RapsGuy

“…big number of american players who simply dont want to play in canada if they have the choice to also play in the usa…” <- the issue. You don't see American hockey or baseball players scoffing at playing for Canadian teams. We've shown we are willing to pay the money, we fill the arena, and we have a lucrative franchise. Stars in Toronto (like Vince) don't seem to realize they are not only supported by the 5th largest city in North America, but an entire country who only has one franchise left in two major sporting leagues. Players leave here and flounder just as much if not more south of the border where they drop out of the spotlight.

It's pretty sad, and players have to do what's right for them, but we want them here just as badly as any american market. Most players (and fans) don't even realize the first NBA game ever played was between the Toronto Huskies and the Knicks IN TORONTO. Rich history! Loyal fans! Give our city some credit, guys!

  • RapsGuy

That being said…I’m waiting to see if JV can excel in the NBA as well. So. Here’s hoping.
