Serge Ibaka Elbows, Shoves Luis Scola (VIDEO)

Things get physical in an Olympic exhibition game.

During a Spain-Argentina exhibition match, NBA forwards Serge Ibaka and Luis Scola got into a little scuffle that escalated throughout the game and eventually reached a fever pitch. Scola finished with 18 points, but his team lost by 20. Stay cool, fellas, the real games haven’t started yet.

    Ibaka plays for spain?

  • Aussie baller

Yea, FIBA has a role where you can more or less adopt a player who played basketball in the country before becoming a pro and Spain chose him

  • Boy Sanhcez

    @snasty10… Are you new here?

  • Jer dawG

Ibaka is embarrassing Spain as a country and embarrassing himself by such dirty play. Scola is just an instigator and he’s no better. I hope USA destroys Spain. If not, then a victory will be good enough.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

The only things I see are a whole lot of flopping and cats acting tough (expect for Ibaka)

MEH. bunch of flopping and trying to get under his skin.

  • Dankstank

I don’t think anyone thinks ibaka embarrassed himself, Scola Is an instigator and just like his situation with Kevin love he got what he deserved. Nobody likes him for a reason

  • KBthaKilla

I guarantee you no one in Argentina really wants it with Ibaka.

  • ktokyo

Someone needs to tell Scola that this isn’t soccer.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    Razor Ramone vs. Booker T

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

I still dont see how the Olympics will allow Serge Ibaka’s black ass play for Spain SMH.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Redd

Kevin go swallow poison. Anyways, I personally think they’re both douchebags.

  • http://www.nba.com Shadojoker

Kevin that is the most absurd racist comment I’ve heard on this boards in a long time…

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

What’s the problem? Im black too I earned the right to make jokes about black folks. I was making an observation get off your high horse

  • The DDB

Scola is great…what he would do to Ibaka in a fight would be hilarious. Ibaka flashed his elbow at Scola as if to say “I got this for you if you keep it up” and Scola put his chin right on the elbow. That’s funny. He then baited Ibaka into a dumb foul. Ibaka knows Scola is not a guy he wants to get too physical with…that’s why he was chest to chest with a little guard but when Scola approached he backed away. Scola has been one of the toughest players in the world for 15 years. His physical style is what keeps him both relevant and hated. The NBA of today is like ballet and guys don’t like being touched.

  • Mariano

How is Scola an instigator? It’s clear Ibaka said something to Scola, and then Scola went to talk to Ibaka, and like the typical sh*t talker, Ibaka just acted like he didn’t do anything. If you ask me, Ibaka’s what’s wrong with the modern day NBA. Teams go nuts for raw players who can’t do much besides jump and don’t really know how to play the game.

  • http://thahiphopcorner.com Kevin

For some reason I really hate Serge Ibaka im not sure why. Im probably still mad over him making every freaking shot he put up in Game 5 against the Spurs

  • ALD

lol scola is acting or maybe ibaka is super strong. Ibak should have done that to artest.

  • Wakeup

Flop after flop after flop…Typical Scola.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/tray24 T-Ray

Calling him a black ass isn’t racist lol it’s a little unnecessary but not racist. But cosign whoever said that anyone from Argentina wants it with Ibaka.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

@kevin: ibaka is a spanish citizen so why shouldnt he be allowed to play for spain? it would be the same thing to ask why black people are allowed to play for the usa, germany or whatever country. a nationality is nothing more than letters on a passport and not the color of a skin.

  • http://slamonline.com LLC#12

Ibaka moved to Spain when he was still a teenager, he speaks pretty good spanish, if he accepts the country and the country accepts him then I don’t understand why so many people question him playing for them.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

No place for that in basketball.. This ain’t MMA, tough guy.

  • LA Huey

“The only things I see are a whole lot of flopping and cats acting tough (expect for Ibaka)” = Truth.
Kind of disappointed that Team Spain didn’t wasn’t in there to get Ibaka’s back (not that he needed it). Can’t believe his teammates just allowed Argentine-after-Argentine to come chirping at Ibaka.

scola does this on the regular. i don’t what the fuss is all about.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Nick Tha Quick

Must we have this conversation every Olympics. It should be common knowledge by now. Hakeem played on the 96 team. Tim Duncan played on the 04 team (not sure if this really counts with the Virgin Islands). Kaman played for Germany in 08. Bo Mccalleb plays for Macedonia. Puerto Rico almost had Melo playing for them before USA basketball snatched him up. JR Holden plays for Russia. The San Antonio chick also plays for Russia. Deng plays for Great Britain. Country of birth and color of skin do not determine what country you represent at the Olympics.

  • EJ

Wish the NBA refs were more like this.

  • B.C.

Who cares scola is one of the dirtiest players in basketball, he deserves a taste of his own medicine.

  • the king

  • the king

  • ttc

yea, that Kevin dude is really ignorant..actin like Ibaka is the 1st and only black spanish dude..by the way, black is not a nationality; the french bball team is almost all black, same with the british one..and so what u black?! me too, and i seen blacks being racist against blacks..and your comment was racist…the Olympics shouldn’t allow him to play for spain cuz he’s black? i’m shakin my head now, (and i ain’t too lazy to actually write that sentence…)

  • http://snasty10.tumblr.com/ snasty10

had no idea ibaka played in spain before the NBA, and Scola wants nothing to do with Ibaka, ask mike dunleavy jr

  • kh

and europeans wonder why they catch a bad rap for flip floppin’

  • tomtom

I’m no fan of flopping, however. I think in cases like this, i like it, it’s a flop that Payton or Michael or Fisher..the really wiley players would make. Take a guy with a big ego, who is used to being the muscle at his position, beat him up a little then wait for a reaction..seems like a plan to me. If Ibaka cant control himself i don’t see anything wrong with Scola’s play here.

  • Fat Lever

I watched the video and the question I have is this. Do the Spanish players speak Spanish when they want to make fun of Serge?

  • http://slamonline.com LLC#12

    ^Serge speaks spanish

  • Rocky

@kh Argentina isn’t in europe, idiot. The style of playing is rougher than in the nba, btw! Compare the handchecking rules of nba and fiba ;)

  • Fat Lever

@LLC, true. Thanks. I’m now at peace.

  • Sarah

Scola gets into/starts a lot of scuffles. I’m just glad Manu isn’t getting involved in any of the silliness his teammates are engaging in.

  • Mariano

@kh Argentina isn’t in Europe. Then people get offended when you call them ignorant

  • http://www.slamonline.com L.E.

    AAAHHHHH kh Argentina is America.

  • robb

Scola is a b*tch and everybody knows it

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

LA Huey, maybe it’s because a majority (not all) of Europeans are racists. You see and hear it all the time while watching futbol games.

  • http://www.slamonline.com L.E.

LA Huey. If you combine poverty and lack of knowledge then you will always have people that will hear to nationalists if it’s in the states, europe, asia… This has nothing to do with the continent you are living on but the problems that every country faces.(Poverty, bad school systems, lack of guidance for younger people)

  • http://www.slamonline.com L.E.

    ups I mean JT 21

  • LA Huey

JT, you really think the Gasols, in this moment, saw Ibaka as just a gun-for-hire from the Congo wearing a Team Spain jersey and not a teammate? Hard for me to believe that.

  • Otero

@danpowers it would be the same to ask why are whites allowed to play for the USA y’all ain’t from here either buddy just cause you steal it doesn’t make it your’s homeboy

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

lol @JTaylor: in most countries in europe people have less trouble with racism than in the usa. there is racism all over the world, it is impossible to find a society without that. but especially in central and western europe youll find less segregation in society and laws than in most states of the usa

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

LA, a deafening yes! No matter how long a foreigner (especially one of a different race) lives in a country, they will always be looked on as a second class citizens.
Africans have been in the US for 400+ yrs and they are still treated as the underclass.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

@Otero: exactly. but the nation state of the united states of america was founded by whites. the native americans didnt have this system. like latin american countries, during the conquista nation states were founded and native/indigenous cultures and folks supressed, killed throughout a genozide and so on. the system of nation states is based on racism, even though you normally find skin colors in any laws or constitution. that is not even a weird theory, you dont even need to check sociological publications for that, look for nation state on wikipedia that stuff is even there. the funny thing about that system is, that people who are being exploited the most by that eurocentric system of nation states are often the ones who are the most patriotic.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

i mean you wont find skin colors in any constitution but a nation state comes down to race when you break it down to how it works in terms of sharing ressources, political participation, etc… even a president like obama in the united states is unfortunatelly nothing more yet than the exception of the rule and didnt and wont change much about segregation or the system of the usa

  • Valkyrie

Kevin, please expose yourself to the rest of the world. Don’t take comfort in your ignorance. Hop on a plane. It’s not exactly rare to see black folks in Europe.

  • Reed

So le me get this straight: “Kevin” is making dumb racist comment, is rooting for the Spurs and claim to be … black.

    Hmmm, Yeah right!!!

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

exactly @ valkyrie. i live in hannover, germany. over here the society is not that segregated, in everyday life you see blacks and whites all mixed up and not stuck in groups same with me n my people, plus skin colour is normally never a topic except on court when we joke around

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

It makes sense that he’d want to play for team Spain, but it still saddens me to see so many Africans playing for European countries instead of their own, especially when they have no connection to these countries other than brief stints in the Euroleague. They should rep the African nations with pride–as if there isn’t already enough Eurocentricity in the “international community.”

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Also on account of the Malvinas aka the Falkland Islands, I hope Argentina whoops Britain’s @ss.

  • td

Guessing it’s better in Germany (though a Turkish/Moroccan friend of mine is still a bit bitter about his time there), but the racism I saw in Italy and Spain first-hand was shocking to me; racial epithets from cabbies as soon as I walked out of the airport, locals shouting at Afro-European street vendors – racists everywhere of course, but I wasn’t expecting it to be so glaringly apparent in my short time there.

  • tomtom

    @Teddy, and why is that?

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Sir Chewbacca may need a little anger management. :)

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

not sure which comment you’re referring to, tomtom.

  • EJ

I hate it when people say “the majority, not all”, it’s still a very broad generalization, and everybody will conclude that they’re not a part of that majority, and therefor will not have a problem what was said.
And besides I don’t think what continent people are from has anything to do with wath kind of mental tendencies those people have. It certainly has not been proven, and I think it would be a bad idea for anybody to even try to prove it.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgvwfvTcNl0 danpowers

@EJ: come on, you can proof it on some groups. for example: the mayority, not all people wearing a bobcats uniform cant put a basket through a hoop. if you think that aint proven, look at the last season lol

  • EJ

  • Loaf

The Falklnads is ours Teddy and will stay ours

  • http://www.blogspot.com LLC#12

The usa is quite a bit more racist than most of Europe, in my opinion

  • http://www.nba.com Shadojoker

My bad Kevin..I just thought the “black ass” was just a lil unnecessary..its all good though..but I always think its unfair that he can play for Spain when he’s from Congo..sure he played overseas in Spain for years..but damn bro..soon Kobe will be playing for Italy!!

  • Tadesse

Scola seems to be the MVP of instigation. He’s made Derek Fisher headbutt him and Kevin Love stomp on his face. He clearly is an expert instigator.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Sure Loaf, just like Burma, India, and Zimbabwe. Oh wait…

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Debating which is more racist, the US or Europe, is like debating which psycho-killer is more psycho, the US or Europe?

  • Kobester

If he could only bring this much amount of gangsta in the NBA…..
