Kobe Bryant’s 34 Best Dunks

For his 34th birthday, the Lakers superstar’s sickest throwdowns ever.

The great Kobe Bean Bryant turns 34 years old today. Kobe entered the League in 1996, has been a truly elite scorer since his second season, and is now—16 years into his stellar career—mentioned when discussing the greatest players to ever pick up a roundball. He’s made as many big buckets and highlight reel plays as anybody who’s ever hit the hardwood, so we decided to focus on one specific part of his game for his birthday celebration: the in-your-face, rim-rattling, high-flying throwdowns. In honor of Bryant turning 34, we compiled his 34 best dunks in the gallery below—and ranked them, too. Enjoy, and happy bday, Kob!

    Happy Birthday Kob!
    Man, #9 was ruthless!

  • Dirtybird

9 was my fave too. A rare highlite from preseason.

  • bravo

    kobe the man!

  • DC

I have to say #5 was the best!

  • http://nicekicks.com MeloMan15

two of the top 3 dunks are against his newest teammates

  • biggieman

I love it that 2 of the top 3 are on his new teammates! I wonder how much he reminds Dwight about that dunk? Nasty. Kobe on Dwight, TMac on Shawn Bradley, and VC on that guy in the Olympics have got to be my top 3 favorite dunks in the post Jordan era…

  • Da-Meat-Meat

His explosiveness back when his jersey was still #8 was incredible

That dunk on Ben Wallace was sick lol even worse was the Dwight Howard dunk!

  • D12FSU

    #3 and #1… awkward :/

  • KC

most of these are jut meh…. Kobe was never a great dunker.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Kobe’s still great, but in his prime, he was really special to watch.
Best thing about #13 is the 2Pac beat playing.
Also, no one is better than Kevin Harlan after a poster dunk.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

Kobe was a better game dunker than LeBron is. More style. Different kinds of dunks.

    ^ Argh..Here we go again

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

That comment was for anyone who thinks Kobe wasn’t a great dunker. The only in game dunker that was better than him in the past 12 years was Vince Carter.

  • blackthought

no 9 – ough!love the dunk on dwight so – always great to see when a shotblocker gets posterized!

  • hugo

way too much 24, not enough 8!

  • Bruno

the dunk on ben wallace … wow … I have to watch it again and again every time!!!

  • Geoffrey

There are so many dunks left out…
There should be like 5 dunks by #24 and 29 by #8.

While everyone likes to see a big fella get yammed on, I think the next best thing is Steve Nash. Every time he gets dunked on he looks like he just got shot. Makes the dunk look that much nastier.

  • Cool Dude

17 definitely should be top 10

  • PnoyVibe

    3′s my personal fav.

  • iceman

@ ByAnyMeansNecessary really? then you must not have watched the last two seasons of Blake Griffin posterizing ever body but his momma, yea we all know kobe overall is a great player but as far as ingame dunking its not even close, Blake has more legendary dunks in his first two years in the league than kb24 has in his whole career, while at the same time giving birth to a new phrase Mozgov’d the hit list continues Mozgov, Perkins, The “Beast” Gasol, Gortat, to many to name who’s next?

  • Drig

    ^^^
Tell me something…..who was a better in game dunker? Kemp or Jordan? Idiotic right? Both play different positions right? Both are matched up differently and both have different strengths to their dunking games right? So, how the hell did you compare Kobe’s dunks to Blake’s?! Also, Kobe’s in game dunks look better than Blake’s are. Esp. if you consider the difficulty in some of his dunks ( his top 10 can hold their own against anyone )

  • Drig

I dunno if it’s on this page since I can’t seem to load youtube vids for the last 2 days due to some problem but the 360 on the TWolves back in ’03 is a personal fav. of mine. In slow mo, that looks absolutely awesome.

17 should be in the top 10. Mad underrated.

  • roybot

@iceman “Mozgov’d” is a real phrase? Wasnt that the one where Blake Griffin didnt even dunk the ball in the rim, instead he just forcefully chucked it in? Bottomline: Blake Griffin is a power dunker, Kobe is a finesse dunker. Not meant to be compared. Drig hit it on the nail with the MJ/Kemp analogy.
Blake’s dunks just require vert and strength. Kobe’s had flair, style, and some innovation. Once Blake gets his innovation, then you bring him up in the same conversation as Vince, Kobe, Dr. J, Dominique, Kemp. But for now hes a poster dunker with crazy potential. He got most of his “greatest dunker” hype for posterizing peeps, not for actual dunking techniques.

  • Zabbah

First video, Kobe took 3 or 4 steps.

  • PnoyVibe

    ^fail.

  • tomtom

Number 1 was the worthy winner. However as a fan I have personal reasons to love #3 and #2.
#3 This was the year a guy scored 81, outscored the Mavs through three quarters with 62, had 4 straight 50 point games and was probably the best perimeter defender in the league and didn’t win the MVP. This dunk was the biggest statement needed as to who the real MVP was.

#2 I hate thinking about that year because of the inevitability of the whole season but Kobe’s fight was fun to watch even when everyone else looked like they had given up. He had a few big dunks/plays against New Orleans which were clear efforts to wake the guys up.

  • robb

    baptized!!!

  • Stokesey

Love dunk #8! Was watching live and in the context of the game was a mad explanation point, the x-mo of it is just rediculous

  • SpacexGhostxJesusAKAFisticuffs

Your list is great, but I would like to nominate this classic Kobe dunk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EDilYikI1k
I think it deserves to be in the top 34

  • SpacexGhostxJesusAKAFisticuffs

Since you got some dunks that were disallowed, this one should be on there too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBofxJw-LU8&feature=related

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Simply the Best better than all the rest. Kobe top 7 player all time and counting.

  • Marleyy

What happened to all the comments?

    Busy watching
