Referee Gives LeBron James an Awful Technical Foul (VIDEO)

Referee Marat Kogut inexplicably whistled LeBron James for a technical foul last night in Charlotte. For what exactly? Only Kogut knows.

It wasn’t an offensive foul. The foul was on Henderson then Lebron got the inexplicable tech..

  • Bird

Are technical fouls carried over to the regular season?

    ESpo not givng a F

a flop? hahahah. i understand the tech on spo but what did lebron do exactly?

Not only was that not a charge, but he gets a tech to boot? Do we have replacement refs in the preseason now?

  • fruizm

I see Ray Allen is feeling comfortable with his new team!

  • R32

Ref saw the “head flop” but that was legit contact. No way that’s a T.

Unwarranted technicals are gonna kill the game.

I guess he should have some regard for human life. The ref perceived Ltrain to have thrown himself into Henderson on pupose, which is a legitimate view. I think more NBA players need to start stepping up like Henderson did here.

Only a technical? He deserved an ejection! What LeBron did there, can’t be allowed by the league! I’d even consider a suspension if I was Stern!

@ 0:09 seconds ref says whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa and walks away. born ran the show

  • Conor

    Obvious charge, unwarranted technical.

David Stern done starting some ish with this flopping thing… smh

Last time I checked ANY tech on lebron is bad…hes the only person i know that can give the ref an overt gesture for a ((RARE)) no call and get away with it.

that was the second worst technical i’ve ever seen. right Tim Duncan? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOygTd1NWCM

  • lososway

he got the tech for embellishing. no need for the dramatics LeBron

  • OneStep

No way was Henderson set when the contact occurred. He wasn’t even squared up to take the charge. Bad initial call exacerbated by the ludicrous T. The ref had time to consider his call and still made it. Fine the referee and give him a one game suspension. We should expect higher standards than that crap.

The refs can’t call technicals even if they perceive flopping. What most likely happened was the ref, who had a poor angle, saw Lebron’s right hand swing up unintentionally toward the general direction of the baseline ref and called the tech on that. The whistle blew right after the hand came up. Any excuses of flopping are speculation on the part of the announcers or a poor way for the offending ref to save face on what he knows was a bad call.

that was definitely a terrible tech. but Nate was talking, we don’t know what he said. LeBron didn’t even have time to talk on his T. And Duncan was literally laughing. Not even at Joey Crawford for his.

The league should fine referees who make horrible calls like this. Fine or suspend for one game. Especially if this happens during the regular season. Stern should get on that instead of the other crap he’s been trying to do.

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

The technical on Spo was also ridiculous given the fact that he had a legitimate reason to be upset. It was a call that shouldn’t have been made. These refs get protected too much by the league.

Looks like Slam isn’t the place for sarcasm.

  • spit hot fiyah

marat kogut = marcin bortat + andrew bogut

  • pposse

the average age of referees should be closers to 30-35 yrs old than 55 yrs old. Its tough being an official, but it really can’t be that tough now. 5-6 yrs of officiating D1 games should be more than enough to make the jump into NBA reffing.

  • shutup

I thought the flopping rule was supposed to be after review, POST game. lol

  • shutup

    I hate that bald fack.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

no he got a tech because that ref is an idiot.

  • bike

They are trying different ways to deal with the 90 second violation. One approach is to call a random tech at any point in the game for no apparent reason.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

it doesn’t matter, what James did wouldn’t be considered flopping.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    what is sarcasm?

  • shutup

I know, but they said they called a tech for the flop, not that i consider that a flop.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

lol it means been there bro. i’m breaking etiquette by telling you what it means and not just responding with btb.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

oh that’s what they said before it was rescinded? ridiculous.

  • shutup

I think the term was exaggerated contact or some such bullsh!t. I guess they might start calling techs in game for flopping, this should be an interesting season, imo though defensive flops should take priority in getting called; because most of the time they stop the play and offensive flops should get the no-call treatment, because most of the time it results in a missed shot.

  • VanCity BBall

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in-W5OuCmS4 i dont know ive seen worse… but still a silly call

  • Ant

Pure fuckery. The league needs to start fining refs and making them accountable.

  • PaulieS23

You mean Lebron got a call against him? Oh no. He is probably the biggest cry baby in the league. About time somebody does something.

  • Ae

Trying to figure this out. Maybe from Kogut’s perspective, it looked like Lebron just picked up the ball and ran at Henderson full tilt? Biyombo is sort of shading what is happening, and Lebron likes his three step? def a weird call.

  • Ugh

Agreed. The ref who made the call was in no place to assess if it was an offensive flop or not – he can’t see how contact occurred.

  • Guest

he just saw the heats last playoff run and was disgusted by all the heat favorable calls and thought “now ima show you something young fella! T-ed!”

  • Max

    Marcin Bortat hahahah

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah it’s a basketball twitter thing. not like the new LOL or anything like that.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    i agree completely.

  • Chukaz

    Tim Duncan’s not bald dude…

  • shutup

The ref, the ref is bald, oh nvm……….
