Dwight Howard Airballs a Free Throw (VIDEO)


Hack-a-Dwight was in full effect last night, as Howard shot a horrific 7-19 from the charity stripe. Above is footage of his worst miss.

    I hate watching Dwight play not because of his game, but because he smiles at the wrong times. It’s the fourth quarter, you’re up three and you airball a free throw, that’s really not funny. He obviously cares about the game, but these types of incidents make it seem like he doesn’t.

    thinking the same thing….just makes you mad cuz its like he is not focused or something. But at the same time maybe he plays best when approaching the game loosely. Hard-nosed, stone-cold focus does not work for everyone.

    Can anyone explain to me how guys who play basketball everyday can be such poor FT shooters? I understand that it is difficult with fatigue, the crowd, big hands…but you would think that the with teh right amount of practice that no one would ever be below 75%…

    I’ve shot free throws before in a small league and it seems like their the easiest shot to make, but when everyone is watching you shoot. You suddenly start to over think your shot and your nerves get the best of you. I’m a pretty good shooter and I like playing under pressure, but to me free throws are a different story.

    This is probably one of the worst airballs ive ever seen. Why? Because horrible free throw shooters, ala Shaq,shoot air balls, usually shoot it too short, and it just falls a bit short of the basket. But this was one short AND completely off the the side…ive never seen that before. That was horrendous.

    haha not necessarily, but maybe. A lot of big men do suck at ft’s nowadays, but look at Nick Anderson, ever since he dropped those 3 ft’s in the finals against houston he was never the same FT shooter again. I do think that Dwight Howard is mentally weak!

    Karl Malone was a terrible FT shooter early in his career and he greatly improved by putting in the work and practice. There.is.no.excuse. Period. These guys have access to the best shooting coaches in the world so all I can figure they simply don’t try hard enough.

    A lot of these big men miss free throws because of their abnormally huge hands so shooting the ball would so so awkward for them

    Blame it on the headband….seriously tho, the headband makes Dwight look like a steroidal 12 year old.

    Someone tell this frootloop to take the glittery purple lightning infused pantyhose off his arms for starters, as if that’s not enough to distract anyone when you are trying to shoot a freebie..

    His technique is horrible though.. needs to bend his legs more, maybe not to Stackhouse or Rip Hamilton levels, but that is a huge mistake that a lot of bigs make.. shooting free throws while straight legged. Try shooting from anywhere on the floor without bending your legs and watch your percentage plummet.

    Another mistake I instantly noticed was his eyes.. watch his head while he takes his 2-3 dribbles before shooting.. he is staring at the ground. Now watch Steve Nash pre-shot routine before shooting a freebie.. his eyes never leave the rim. During the dribbles he should be staring at the rim visualizing the ball going through the hoop.
