Dwight Howard Airballs a Critical Free Throw (VIDEO)

Hack-a-Dwight proves effective.

The Miami Heat hacked and sent Dwight Howard to the free throw line late in the game last night. It proved to be an effective strategy, as the Lakers center drew nothing but air. Yikes.

I will just never understand the airball free throw. Anyway, Pringles gotta man up and benchDDwight azz at the end of a close game like this. Teams would be dumb not to hack-a-Howard in the 4th

  • Jer dawg

I’ve air balled a FT in a critical game before in a rec league before and lost by 1. I felt miserable then. I can’t imagine how he felt then and there. Especially when it played out on national TV. Man, that sucks and Shaq is probably talking mad ish about DH now.

  • thyr rodrigues

    who´s laughing now, huh?

  • shockexchange

    C’Mon D12 you’re better than that.

its a mental thing..he sucks at ft’s he knows, the fans know it..then right before he shoots all of those negative emotions take over his body and his worst fears are realized..airball

  • Max

Sounds like u have quite some experience?

  • pposse

    haha you got jokes Max.

  • pposse

but i suck at ft’s!! if i were to practice by myself i probably can make like 7/10 but if were to be in a ft contest wit someone immediately it goes down to like 3/10 and an %80 probability of 2 airballs

Then Steve Kerr says, “Well maybe if he wasn’t standing that far from behind the line he would’ve swished it”.

  • Max

It’s all in your head my man.

  • RayJr

So does Dwight get the same anxiety stepping to the line that Royce White gets before stepping on an airplane?…too soon? ha

Just a suggestion. If a guy airballs a freethrow, he doesn’t get fist bumps or high fives from any of his teammates.

  • TSmoove

At least he didn’t laugh after this one…

My dad and I always have this conversation about the epidemic of poor free throw shooting. We always harp on the mentality rather than the mechanics. You have to have the confidence that you’re always going to make it. I shot 93% my varsity years in high school. That had little to do with my mechanics because my form wasn’t picture perfect but I always zeroed in and realized “hey this shot is FREE and no one is guarding me”. That’s more of an incentive to make the damn shot. At this point D12s horrific free throw shooting is inexcusable. You shouldn’t encourage a teammate who air balled a free throw.

So work on your freethrows, run some wind sprints then shoot 5 and run a wind-sprint or suicide for every miss, keep doing it so you learn to shoot tired or when you practice do 5 push-ups for every miss, again it will teach you too shoot fatigued while putting pressure on the shot.

  • LakeShow

He needs to be at 60%
This below 50% garbage is just that…

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/savagemuzicgroup T-Ray

To be honest if you’re going to shoot for 60% why not 70? Or 80? I just will never understand the lack of concentration when it comes to missing free throws. Hell howard’s form looks like Ray Allen’s compared to Noah and Noah shoots 80%! Are you kidding me?

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/savagemuzicgroup T-Ray

Granted Howard takes more attempts per game but still come on man no excuse.

  • LakeShow

The thing is… at 60% your keeping defenses honest. They know your more likely to make 1 of your two free throws, thus maybe not the best idea to “hack a Howard.” I mean 80% would be sweet, but that’s wishful thinking. Realistically if he can get to 60%, then that alone will improve the Lakers offense quite a bit.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/savagemuzicgroup T-Ray

Very true. At this point I’m praying for 60% because his air ball then clank off the back iron last night in the clutch was heart breaking but expected.

If D12′s problem is mental, get him to a sports shrink. If it’s his technique, get him to a shooting coach. This is the nba for chrissake. They have access to the best of everything.

  • fruizm

    I finally agree with you!!!

  • The Philosopher

    It’s all mental.

teh high 5s are for support not for congratulations

  • madterps

Tradition of Fakers centers sucking at free throw continues. Wilt, Shaq, Howard.

This guy is an absolute disgrace to professional athletes.

  • Luminous Music

Yeah…make a new rule: makes the shot/hits the ring = high 5, pat on the back, airball = kick shins
