Andrew Wiggins Posterizes Helpless Defender (VIDEO)

On his 18th birthday, the Canadian phenom puts the icing on the cake.

Over the weekend—on his 18th birthday, specifically—Andrew Wiggins, the consensus No. 1 player in high school basketball, threw down a vicious dunk at the Beast Athletics Shootout in Oldsmar, FL. In the clip above, Wiggins slithers his way into the lane, gathers his feet and rises for a thunderous slam over a helpless defender. Be easy, Andrew!

props for the reference. i preferred the bean series better tho

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    oh yeah, no doubt.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Ender’s game is the first book i ever loved. So i gotta admit, my view on that is and always will be biased.

    .

with that being said, Shadow of the Giant, i did not set that book down. i read it cover to cover.

I feel like this trash talk happens all throughout the game. You never know that kid could have been jawing at the start of the game ala Byron Russell to Jordan or Ibaka to LJ, lmao or most recently Cuban to Bryant and he paid the piper…….just maybe.

It’s one of my favorite books as well. I’ve read all of the sequels, and the Bean parallel stories. Kobe actually should have left his nickname as “Bean” in dedication to that book.

  • davidR

bean’s series is great. liked that they explored what happened to earth after the bugger war

  • davidR

oh i’m the same man. when i had to read ender’s game for high school, i remember thinking damn they actually let you read good stories?!

i just never was able to get into the rest of the ender series. just took an entirely different direction. great, great collection of books tho. i really hope the movie does the story justice

Supposedly OSC has nixed over 10 scripts. 2 of which were his own. And Harrison Ford is playing Graff. I have high expectations.

  • Max

    What are yall talking about?

  • davidR

whoa, harrison ford?! definitely going to have high expectations.

i’m curious, cuz isn’t graff short, fat, and generally a slob? not that i expect it to be detail for detail the same, just interested in seeing the ways the tweak the script

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Maybe he’s not Graff. I just judged based on the screen shot / poster thing to announce the movie and assumed that’s who he represented. The kids also don’t look the appropriate age at all.

  • davidR

ah, i just checked the picture you’re talking about. looks like he is graff, but we’ll see. interesting to see how harrison portrays all of graffs personal problems.

as for the kids, i’m guessing it’s too hard to find a large number of kids that can act all those complex roles. maybe 5 at most, but not an entire schools worth. damn, i hope this movie is good

I assume they kind of had to change those things, modern society wouldn’t really accept a short fat military general in a movie, or a bunch of 6 year old geniuses smarter then all their superiors. It’s backwards, but we seem to expect realism within our fiction.

lol. pum pum. I dont agree with you on ur point, but good on ya.

  • danpowers

touché. thats why i quit after some years and stuck to basketball lol

  • danpowers

there are always some exceptions. im not sure but i think you wont see too much footage from olajuwon or duncan staring guys down. i also know that its part of the game. aint nothing like the lister blister lol. i just see too many cats doing that “just” for pulling a nice dunk. i think just celebrating yourself and shouting like a lion on crack feuls your team up and intimidates the opponents in the same way as staring them down. could be that the young larry johnson also stared his opponents down but i can only remember him celebrating his jams with the crowd. to me thats way more likeable and worthwhile than acting like a bully in elementary school

  • Jpain

nice dunk, but the dude was much shorter than him… just saying

  • iceman

ditto, besides we dont no the whole story, ole dude could of been talking a bunch a smack to the future #1 draft pick

  • RKJ92

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHrygsvvQ48 — They need this in the NBA again, idc what people think of it.. but that’s how we play in the streets you get clowned in a play, damn straight you gonna hear it, or get a staredown coming back down the court it’s a killer mentality. On a side note dream talked mad sh*t to players but never went above and beyond that, which I can respect because that would take every ounce of my strength to do so, and I never wanna hear Tim Duncan in this discussion that man is the most boring but efficient player i’ve ever seen.. he’s almost robotic, like its gross 0 personality on the court lol..

  • Redd

I imagine the movie will be wack.

  • Whoareyou

Most players that dunk on someone give that same reaction at any level, pros down to High School. Even the “nicest guy in the league” will stare down the defender after a poster.

  • danpowers

    doesnt make it any better

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

a book? you should read it. It’s called Ender’s Game.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

LOL, except Bean was the ultimate team player. That would have been quite the contradiction.

  • http://twitter.com/apowellAdvocate Allen Powell II

But a young prodigy who was alienated from his peers by his immense aptitude and inability to connect on a human level. Now, of course, you’re right that ultimately it was proven that Bean totally lacked ambition and that’s the exact opposite of Kobe, but it’s a better nickname than Black Mamba.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

well Kobe’s middlename is Bean. His name is literally Kobe Bean Bryant. So i agree, Bean is more fitting no matter what. And Black Mamba is something a 7 year old would come up with to impress his friends.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

idk why my comment didn’t come through, or maybe it just isn’t showing up. But i would assume it is easier to sell a movie, even a fictional one, if the principles are easier to grasp.

    .

a short, fat, army general, leading genius 6 year old soldiers who are smarter than most adults for war against aliens is a hard concept to buy into, even if it is fiction.

    .
make the kids 10-13 and the army general Harrison Ford? That’s something people will get excited about.

  • davidR

i can definitely see that. weird how it works, isnt it? a fiction movie set in the future about humans at war with aliens, and the public wants realism

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

that’s how it is…or seems to be. and i am guilty of this. i will watch a fiction movie and point out every plot hole, even the ones that are clearly part of the fiction.

  • http://twitter.com/Mk9Life MK9ForLife

That’s like his best friend though so what do you expect. But yea I would have fought him.

  • Duke

One other commenter on here said it best, people need to make up their minds. A few weeks back there was a SI article about him being too passive and taking a shot at his intensity towards the game…now he needs to ‘tone it down’? You guys don’t know how much trash is probably talked to him every game, and when you’re the projected #1 pick with all that hype following you around, it’s worse. Everyone wants to take a shot at you.

And if you really think he needs to ‘tone it down’, you obviously know nothing about this kid. He’s known as humble with his head on straight…one who does act like he’s been there before. Even KD mean mugs a guy when he crowns him. Seems like just because he’s Canadian, Americans use every opportunity to take shots at him, but we all know what happened after that SI article came out. Can’t wait to see him in the NBA crowning guys left n right while the haters shut their mouths.
