Andrew Wiggins Posterizes Helpless Defender (VIDEO)

On his 18th birthday, the Canadian phenom puts the icing on the cake.

Over the weekend—on his 18th birthday, specifically—Andrew Wiggins, the consensus No. 1 player in high school basketball, threw down a vicious dunk at the Beast Athletics Shootout in Oldsmar, FL. In the clip above, Wiggins slithers his way into the lane, gathers his feet and rises for a thunderous slam over a helpless defender. Be easy, Andrew!

that much air off the pro hop????? DAYUM

  • http://tddaily.com/ Abe Schwadron

Looked like he jumped off a trampoline…woah.

  • analfissures

Nice dunk, but pretty weak that he and his teammate had to get in the defender’s face jawing at him on the way back down. Never have been a big fan of people that do that.

  • Chad

A dunk like that deserves a mean stare down.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    Ender is that dude.

  • Nella

Dude is nice, but please stare a little longer at that kid while you shuffle down the court…

  • RKJ92

Idc what the Raptors have to do to get this kid, but please, please for the love of god do it.. lol, package half our team for the #1 pick to get him, just come play for home! #Miracle

  • Redd

Was hoping Wiggins would go to the Raps but that’s damn near impossible until Wiggins becomes a NBA FA. Gay is going to become an All-Star I think & that team will not be lower than an 8th seed now I think.

  • RKJ92

Pretty weak? what are you a little pum pum? that ish’ prolly happened to you, an you a scarred batti now, man up, stare downs are a must in this sport.

  • RKJ92

Cuz he DUMMIED him!! I would TOO

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

I’m not against it, and I hate how the NBA t’s people up for it but I think only the dunker should be doin it. Like come on man you shouldn’t stare anyone down if you didn’t pull the dunk off

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

Unfortunately Gay might have taken us out of the top lottery

  • Paul

That must fly in Canada, I’d tear his damn ACL if he stared at me like that.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Ever dunked on someone? Because if not, you can’t understand what it feels like. Sometimes guys have to let others know what time it is. Nothing wrong with it.

  • Paul

Plus, I doubt you have ever dunked on anyone before, being that you must be under 12 years old. Why? Because I know, or at least hope, that if you are older than 12 you are not writing “Cuz” on anything, anywhere, at anytime. You can make that sound when you are technically saying “cause”, but you can’t write it. Nope. Not after 12.

  • Nella

He can get hyped all he wants, it was a nice dunk. But he’s also a man among kids. He wants to get his team excited, great. But there’s also something to be said for playing it cool and not acting surprised when you do that 9 times a game.

  • DwiggisDewar

Everyone saying this guy needs to tone down the intensity after some ish like that about 3 weeks after that SI article talking about how he’s too nonchalant. People need to make up they’re damn minds about how they want someone to mould their personality. If you can;t just let someone be them.

  • RKJ92

I used to play with Andrew Wiggins for one summer when he was younger on a team called CAN6, and we would play against mobile players his size in the states at diff tournaments, and he would absolutely beast them, plz if you get a chance see what he did to Julius Randle if you don’t believe me. The ONLY reason i’m so high on Andrew is because I’ve seen what he can do and to be honest the sky’s the limit for him he has the potential to be great.

  • RKJ92

I’m actually 21, 6’4 1/2 and I have been dunking since grade 8 thx for your concern though.

  • RKJ92

Damn straight we do it here, sometimes it results in fights but it’s all about making the dude you dunk on look like a clown, and destroy his dignity. KINDA like the Dikembe finger wave..

  • RKJ92

I really don’t doubt that too.. :/ I still think we will only be either under, or JUST at .500 next season though

  • Nella

No worries, I think he is great and his ceiling is very high, and from what I’ve heard he has his head on straight. Just commenting on this one particular highlight, based on what I can see in the video.

  • RKJ92

I agree completely! Gay might actually be in a Josh Smith type recognition as far as voting is concerned, but still an all-star calibre player. Here’s hoping Raps can land him SOMEHOW though.. I’m sure if New Orleans was able to snag Anthony Davis 1rst overall, or more for you (Derrick Rose drafted to his hometown with like a 1% chance lol) there’s no reason why the commissioner couldn’t help us out ;) lol

  • analfissures

I’m cool with a stare down, just not with two guys following the other down the court talking smack in his face. To me, that crosses a line.

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

Yeah that’s why I was a downer on the trade :/ propels us to mediocrity..

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

Yeah commissioner fixes the draft order for the sake of good marketing opportunities

  • cecil

Soon as that movie comes out, this kid is going to have the most appropriate nickname if he is constantly posterizing dudes. I cannot wait!

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

the book is out. the book has college courses dedicated to it. i think it’s plenty appropriate.

  • http://twitter.com/apowellAdvocate Allen Powell II

Some of the best moments in NBA history have come from the “hype men” on dunks. I’m thinking about when Jordan dunked on the Hawks and his hype man was doing a lot of pointing and trash talking. Y’all know the clip.

  • http://twitter.com/apowellAdvocate Allen Powell II

You stole my nickname! Nah, I’m sure I wasn’t the first one to call him that, but I think he should embrace that nickname with the quickness.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

lol you might have called him that on SLAM first, but i didn’t get it from you. Ender’s game is literally my favorite book. First time i saw a mixtape about this kid on ballislife i called my dad and told him about him because of his name i was so excited.

  • K_HOLIDAY

A Metta World Peace elbow from the dude who got dunked on would stop all of that! lol

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Paul Webster, out here judging people’s age in a comment section based on the use of one word, CUZ he’s a douche.

  • K_HOLIDAY

When ur the dunker its cool, but when ur the dunkers teammate, GTFOH!!! I think thats the point analfissures is trying to make

  • bill

Especially that coattail rider on Wiggin’s team that didn’t even do anything.

  • bill

RKJ92, thinks everyone, including the waterboy, gets to join in on the stare down because “that ish was prolly” all he was able to do.

  • Max

We call it a Matte World Peace love tap.

  • danpowers

thats about discipline. i just know that from boxing. if u knock somebody out or down its a feeling like “in yo face” but no need to act cheap like that. it takes alot of discipline to hold back tho lol

  • danpowers

it aint too bad we have these staredowns. its just a sign of sportsmanship and a good character not to do it

  • Max

    Dayum.

  • Redd

Yeah but it’d be pretty obvious, I believe we had a lottery pick stowed away. Not sure of the Raps pick situation but with that in mind you may just get him.

I do feel that maybe our pick for Rose was fixed.

  • LakeShow

    It’s called “been there before.”

  • RKJ92

You don’t even know me you can’t even feasibly make that statement..

  • RKJ92

Ya you know how it is when your trying to hype your team and get them going though.. its nice to do it to start a big run, or discourage the other team, I know its technically “unsportsmanlike” but lets be real and not act like Jordan, Bird, Isiah, Dominique, Barkley, ect ect.. never did it

  • RKJ92

Ya like im in my psychology class I don’t have time to always type perfectly, I really don’t know why guys like him take it so seriously, i’m not a journalist, i’m just an avid basketball fan that enjoys sharing thoughts, and reading what other people have to say contributing to the articles, NOT judging on how someone chooses to type.. ridiculous.. :/

  • roscoe

totally agree… its sounds like you have been on both sides of the knock out.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

don’t dwell on it. when you are the descendant of Merriam Webster you gotta make sure everyone uses their dictionary. It’s good for the trust account.

  • RKJ92

    LOL haha :)

  • cecil

I know about the book but after the movie the nickname is going to blow up! Hopefully anyway. That’s all I am saying.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aamir.khuller Aamir Khuller

True…but personally I think the hype man thing is better suited for Game-winners, like Royal Ivey did when KD beat the Mavs last year, or Quinn Cook when Austin Rivers did it @ UNC
