Tyson Chandler Shoves Spencer Hawes After Carmelo Anthony Smacks Him (VIDEO)

Fight! Well, almost.

Carmelo Anthony took a cheap shot at the back of Spencer Hawes’ head, and when the Philadelphia Sixers big man stepped to Melo, Tyson Chandler shoved him away. Per the NY Post: “Anthony was eventually issued a flagrant foul for his retaliation for what he said was an elbow to his throat. ‘I didn’t mean to hit him in the head,’ Anthony said. ‘It was just one of them plays. I wasn’t mad. I was just reacting to the elbow I caught.’ [...] ‘It felt like a punch,’ Hawes said. ‘That’s why I was so [mad].’ Thanks to Chandler, Hawes never got near Anthony as both players were swarmed by teammates and officials. Technical fouls were issued and play resumed without further incident. Anthony losing his cool again after coach Mike Woodson lectured his team about its constant loss of composure is a bit troublesome. But Chandler’s reaction displayed the kind of grit and fight you want to see from the Knicks, the kind of fight they ultimately used to hold off the Sixers 99-93 last night at the Garden. The win not only snapped a four-game losing streak, but restored a sense of much-needed swagger or as much swagger as you can gleam from beating a team that had its own losing streak extended to five games. ‘I was just protecting my teammates,’ Chandler said after the Knicks won their first home game since Feb. 4.”

where was this when Melo and KG were getting into it… Tyson Chandler= Fake Tough Guy

  • spit hot fiyah

really tough to hit someone from the back and push them from the side, smh. i’m sure 90 % of this type of stuff wouldn’t happen if no one was there to separate/hold them back.

  • danpowers
  • Anthony Dixon

he wasn’t as aggressive with KG…. HE stood there and walked away…. #Fake Tough Guy.. Melo is too .

  • Anthony Dixon

yup all that yelling Tyson does is annoying and just for show….

  • danpowers

there was no tough guy stuff at all. melo went at kg, not the other way round. nobody was even intending to fight. go n tell any nba guy in the face he is a fake tough guy n see what happens. if youre lucky ppl just laugh about you lil b*tch. talk like that is cheap. go out there n do better or watch n stfu

  • Anthony Dixon

lol u mad knicks fan… hahah need some wet wipes?tell Tyson to keep taking pictures or pick on players his own size. You Knicks fans are sensitive

  • fruizm

K-Mart is like “YES! This is why Im here!!”

  • http://twitter.com/_DFrance DFrance

It’s not even about tough or not tough. Malone and Rodman were tough, with all the battling they did, how many fistfights did they get into on the court? These guys are ball players, NONE of them want to fight. I don’t even know why the players get in each others face, it’s all posturing. “I don’t want to fight, but I want to tell at you and be as close to your face as possible when I do it.”

  • DP

Melo is just a thug who will never win ANYTHING in the NBA…PU SSY

  • Fat Lever

So Will Bynum punches Hansborough in the stomach and immediately gets tossed and gets suspended for 1 game. Yet Melo hits Hawes in the back of the head with what amounts to a full swing and remains in the game and “only” gets a flagrant 1. Makes sense…Still a punk move by Melo, but what else is new?

I wish the Sixers would sign a 40+ Rick Mahorn just for these types of scenarios. Then again, if he was 40+ and still in shape to play, he’s probably be playing for NY anyway(and yes, I know my Sixers stink, so save me the generic “Sixers suck bro!” reply).

  • danpowers

i neither jump on the band wagon when ppl call out other team’s guys to be “fake tough guys”. just shows those people aint knowin sh*t about what they r talking about. toughness is more about what u can take instead of handing out shots anyway

  • analfissures

EXACTLY, which is why it’s always funny to see Melo giving out cheap shots and running away because he knows his boys will step in front of him and he’ll never get touched. Melo truly defines what a “punk” is. No class, no honor, no balls.

  • Max

    Sixers suck bruh!

  • Max

“toughness is more about what u can take instead of handing out shots anyway”
Yet Hansbrough is a ‘puss’ for taking the hit and laughing at lil Will?

  • Max

Sheed and KMart were loving it lol.

  • pposse

melo + chandler = fugazy brothers

  • analfissures

It’s interesting to see how many double standards people have. Blake Griffin and Hansbrough or “puss!es” for keeping their cool and not fighting back, but other guys are “tough”. Interesting.

  • http://www.facebook.com/shooting.guard.319 Shooting Guard

didn’t see any of this when kg was barking

  • Max

    Exactly.

  • Fat Lever

I see what you did there…

  • danpowers

to me, yes. when you get hit like that and bow down to “sell” the foul to the ref, to me that is a b*tch-move. i used to do boxing next to bball for a couple of years and think i can judge thrown punches pretty well – that was not a hard hit by any means. i dont like that acting up, looked a little bit like soccer/football guys selling a foul. exactly what the nba is trying to ban at the moment

  • danpowers

id never call anybody a p*ssy for not fighting (back). but flopping and acting up is what i really hate. i even call that out on players who are on my team or who i play with. guys need to man up n show some sportsmanship

  • danpowers

to be honest, id wish too, that melo would man up a bit more. especially on d, like he did during the first games of the year. whatever, the 90s knicks were unique and anything after that time looks quite “soft” for knicks standards

  • danpowers

maybe because melo was getting at kg and not the other way round. was all about barking anyway. if these guys would bite, theyd do martial arts instead of bball anyway

  • Your biological father

Because Melo was the aggressor and Chandler pulled him off you tard. Paul pierce, Rondo, CP3 Perrkins and a whole bunch more act like their gangstas all the time but Chandler is the fake tough guy. Sounds like you got a vagina

  • Ugh

Boy, do you not remember the 80s.

  • Gman

except that Melo went after KG maybe?

  • Slamonthis

I used to be a big Melo fan since he got drafted,I liked his game better than Bron. I stop being a fan since he quit on the Nuggets when he got to the western conference. He always start something and never really does anything bout it. Just ask Nate Rob.

  • Lloyd

My favourite part of the clip haha

  • Lloyd

Punk move by Melo. I didn’t see an elbow in that clip. Don’t understand the criticisms of Chandler though. He didn’t see Melo’s cheap shot. He turned around and saw a big on the other team scream and step to his team mate so he pushed him away. Don’t see the “fake tough guy” thing here. He was making sure Hawes didn’t lay hands on his boy. Shout out to KMart and Sheed on the bench though!

  • analfissures

I just don’t think the logical reaction to someone in your teammates face is shoving them. Break it up, sure, but there are much better ways of doing that than by bull-rushing in there and actually escalating the situation. I can see what you’re saying and it’s good that he stood up for his teammate, he just didn’t do it in a very wise way.

  • Max

I don’t know man, if it’s coming unexpected right in your stomach. Maybe he reacted naturally and than was like, hey it’s not that bad.

  • danpowers

hmmmm…. anyone here got him on twitter and the possibility to ask? lol

  • Max

It’s one of the mistery’s of the NBA!

  • Lloyd

I agree that it’s not the most peaceful way, but it seems to be the most effective way to make sure Hawes doesn’t lay hands on his teammate. Definitely a more heat of the moment decision than logical one though. Regardless, I don’t see it as being a “fake tough guy” move.

  • Anthony Dixon

Looks like it’s that time of the month for you my friend. I Hope the knicks can win more than 1 playoff game. Plus your comment makes no sense lol.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

they probably were scared KG was gonna smack everyone in the building

  • danpowers

uhm yeah, exactly. anthony looked really scared…. not

  • chris b

Hawes was mauling Melo the whole game with cheap crap, he gets a back of the hand and the little boy goes nuts. Cut the crap he was out there to get Melo thrown out, you can`t guard him, so you rough him up. Hawes should have fouled out in the first half hows your other big doing (LOL)

  • Lan

Credit Melo for not running away after a cheap shot. Credit Chandler for stepping in so Melo doesn’t have to run.

  • Yi-Cheng Chen

no one is going to run away unless that person is not man enough.

  • Yi-Cheng Chen

Chandler has nothing better to do, eh? It’s not his business really. Melo should tell Chandler no need any protection because they are all grown adults.

  • Fat Lever

Ok, first of all the Hawes you described is not the Hawes that I’ve seen for the past 2+ seasons. So your argument that he was there to get Melo thrown out is utterly moronic.

Also, if he gets thrown out, who would take his place, Kwame Brown? You think Doug Collins told him to go out there and get Melo thrown out, with the chance that Hawes would get tossed too?

Hawes sucks, but his backups suck even more, so I dont think DC would tell him to do stuff to get tossed.

And you’re right Hawes can’t guard Melo, but HAWES ISN’T RESPONSIBLE FOR GUARDING MELO DURING THE GAME, so that further disproves your statement.

    But keep believing…

  • chris b

Your logic is amazing, for its lack of intellegence. You actually think as a coach I would not trade Hawes for Melo. Philly wins that every time if they get Melo thrown out. You are just ignorant of the real world

  • chris b

What is tough guy, a thug? Hawes was beating the crap out of Melo every time he got a chance. You fools can think anything you want but don`t talk about Collins not trying that crap. They know they can`t guard him, they have lost 5 in a row, his job is on the line, they are going to do what they have to do to win. If it means taking Melo out they do it. Both you guys are BS Look at Collins interview after the game, he told his team Melo was going to go to the line 15 times. Fact check ahole before you pontificate

  • chris b

And you Philly fans are idiots so we be even,

  • chris b

    Truth

  • chris b

no they are disciplined which requires more toughness

  • Smuckin Fart

Is it a rule when people downgrade others *intelligence, they must downgrade their own?

  • Anthony Dixon

u wasted your time tyring to sound intelligent.

  • Eddie Najera

Translation: Hawes was playing defense all game (I know, foreign concept to Melo), and Melo didn’t like it so he tried to punch the guy in the back of the head like a gutless douchebag. Same Melo as punch-and-run Melo from 2007. Or did you guys forget about that now that he’s your player? Melo is a bum and will never be a winner.

  • Eddie Najera

    Sorry, 2006*

  • chris b

@ golds 1 ncaa max contract. Sure he s a loser

  • chris b

    true you are right

  • chris b

    no its pure supposition
