JR Smith Ejected for Flagrantly Fouling Harrison Barnes (VIDEO)

Should he have been?

With the New York Knicks getting blown out last night, a frustrated JR Smith was ejected after his hard foul on rookie Harrison Barnes. A questionable call?

He extended his arm down after but I don’t think he deserves an ejection from that. Cue the JR is a punk comments.

Punch in the nuts, flagrant 1. Hard foul while actually going for the ball, flagrant 2. Makes sense.

Reputation definitely played a part there, if a guy who didn’t have a reputation as an idiot did that, they would have stayed in the game.

Hey wait, didn’t D-Wade do this but worse and with intento to Kobe in the 2012 all star game?

  • RayJr

This is getting ridiculous. Refs need to start getting fined for such terrible calls.

at first look i was like no way, that in the replay u can see that it results in an elbow to the head. i don’t know, today it probably is an ejection based on the current standard. 20 years ago this would just have been a regular foul, possibly flagrant, but no ejection

Based off replay, no, that’s a flagrant one. But as quickly as it was moving, and the perspective of the ref, I could understand why initially it would be a flagrant 2. To the ref, it prob looked like he brought his arms down hard on Barnes’ dome.

    Lol, refs are so inconsistent.

That’s the thing, they looked at the replay and still came away with a flagrant 2. Ridiculous

Shouldn’t have been a flagrant at all. Just a hard foul. Centers used to foul Shaq like this all the time so according to these refs every time Vlade, Dikembe, Sabonis, etc. fouled Shaq they shouldve been ejected.

What’a joke. I hate the NBA as an organization, so backwards and hypocritical.

  • danpowers

that call was a joke. but the knicks would have lost this one anyway so whatever

  • LeroyShonuff

What history of acts like this does JR Smith has? What is his rep outside of stupid shot selection? So pushing players in the crowd while on fastbreaks is legal along with aggressively massaging nuts is ok??? Where the NBA happens

It’s the tattoos. Has to be the tattoos.

  • King David

if thats a flagrant 2 World Peace should be out the league smh

  • Mack

To me that’s CLEARLY a Flagrant 1; you could argue it was basically the very definition of it. I think before David Stern retires in 2014 he should call all his referees into a room and tell them to get on the same damn page cuz it seems like every night they make these stupid fucking decisions. This seems like a classic Ron Artest flagrant call; they should be making the call based on the play, not on reputation or attitude of the player.

i hate to say it but jr really did alot so far to achieve and honestly deserve that reputation -.-

NBA: Where pussy-balling happens. Bring back 80′s basketball I say, where it ain’t a foul if you don’t bruise

why would you foul someone with both hands across their shoulder and pull them down too? It look intentional to me. Most of you would reach in or block the basket instead of foul someone that hard. I think it is fair to say it is the right call in this situation when the Knicks is down by many points.

  • T-man

We need robots as referees, seriously…

  • danpowers

i didnt mean his talent level or how he is as a person, coz i dont know him. i mean judging be what he demonstrates out there on a nightly basis. and by that he seems to be some kind of an arrogant dumb a*s out there. as a knicks fan i still love him as a mother loves her bad kids as she loves her good kids lol

    hahaha i feel ya dan

  • whoisdskee

Hate to say it but I bet it played a factor. A lot of old schools still see tattoos as the calling card of thugs. I wonder if some super clean cut player made the same foul would it be the same call?

  • Otis

Joey Crawford makes a terrible call. I am shocked. Shocked, I tell you. SHOCKED.
