warriors needed that one, klay thompson too, he is low percentage shooter for someone who is labeled a shooter

  • yee

agreed. but his percentage numbers a pretty nice the first 3 quarters then he tanks the 4th, bringing down his numbers.

he shoots 38% from 3. Which is actually good. But whatever.

What is “low” to you about 39% 3 pt fg’s?
Especially when you take over 6 a game… He’s an 87% FT shooter also. He just isn’t great at finishing close to the hoop so his regular FG% is low.

he never shoots around the hoop either lol. he is shooting contested 3′s and long 2′s. Compare him to other similar SG’s (Jamal Crawford, JR Smith, Jason Terry) his FG% is right where you’d expect it for a guy in that role in just his 2nd year.

I didn’t look at his advanced, but yeah I shoulda assumed that he just shot deep 2′s. For strictly jump shots 42% isn’t terrible He allows so much space in the post since he never enters the lane lol.

yeah. i tried to explain this to a group of commenters the other day when they were criticizing his shooting like it hasn’t been terrific.

what are you doing helping that early Salmons?

  • LP

….That defense by John Salmons was awful….David Lee gave him a slight head/pass/drive fake and Salmons RUNS to the lane and leaves a Knockdown Shooter wide open……
Gotta know better, I’d take my chances with david lee creating off the dribble…

his shooting isn’t necessarily the problem. he shoots his 3s great. but his shot selection kills him. shoots way too many contested shots. just has to have more patience on offense

i think you are criticizing something that is encouraged. not saying his shot selection isn’t iffy, but it probably isn’t discouraged either.

  • davidR

yea, its tough to tell with the dubs. historically they are always given the green light. but with klay, he just forces too many shots. there’ve been way too many times he catches and shoots with a defender in his face, often early in the shotclock. that, or he shoots too many times when he’s off balance / still on the move. that’s what i meant.

i dont mind if he has good looks and just misses, but it’s tough when you’re taking 14 long jumpshots a game

i know what you meant. and i’m telling you that he is probably encouraged to take those shots. you not liking them, and Mark Jackson not liking them are unrelated.

  • davidR

    fair enough

i want to reiterate tho, i feel your pain, and know exactly how you feel. my 2004-05 season was spent watching Quentin Richardson huck up soooooooooo many bad 3′s he led the league in makes.

  • davidR

oh man, that suns team was so stacked. young amare was a force back then. pity joe johnson got his face broken in, and they kept running into the spurs

    lol, no doubt.
