Kobe Bryant Gets Away With Last-Second Foul on Ricky Rubio (VIDEO)

As the Minnesota Timberwolves mounted a furious, improbable comeback against the Lakers last night, Ricky Rubio had a chance to tie the game with time running out. Kobe Bryant hacked him instead, and got away with one as Los Angeles escaped wth 120-117. Bryant didn’t bat an eyelash when asked about the controversial play. Per the LA Daily News and LA Times: “Kobe Bryant on last play on Rubio: ‘They ain’t calling that sh*t. I don’t think I got him, but that’s a tough call to make.’ [...] Kobe said he didn’t foul Rubio. But what if a foul had been called? ‘We’d have gone into overtime and won the game.’”

That is what happen when your name is Los Angeles Lakers and your are contending a 8th seed.

  • spit hot fiyah

terrible no-call. i don’t care what the score is or how much is left on the clock

  • Max

Lol at Kobe saying it’s not a foul.

  • pposse

the hand is part of the ball

  • patrick

hmm, looked like pretty minor contact,,but i guess it effected the shot

  • fitzy

That ref doesn’t have a sack

  • chump

That is bullsh!t. Terrible no call.

8th seed? They’re like 24-44 or wtv haha

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

That should be reviewable, its plays like this that decide a game and for the ref to just say no and turn the other way when Rubio comes running over is disrespectful and wrong.

This is what has been happening to the Wolves and a lot of the other not-so-good teams this year. I’m so sick of star treatment.

  • mike

    i never understood that…..

  • Nick

    what u talkin about?

  • Do Work

imagine the reaction if kobe was the one shooting and was hacked like that

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

Oh…noob move thought you were talking about T-Wolves. Not used to referring to Lakers as an 8th seed…haha

  • pposse

neither do i, i was just kidding btw.

One time as a kid i was playin wit my cousin and he shot the ball with his hand on the front side of the ball. I blocked the shot, but bc his hand was on the front of the ball i hit his hand and he called a foul. I was pissed, he was laughing.

  • playa

It was a foul but Kobe’s right, they NEVER EVER call that in this situation,if this was Kobe shooting he probably wouldnt get that call either, its just the way it is folks.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

it was never a real thing.

  • bike

That foul will never be called on a last second shot especially if it would be on Kobe Motherfu*kin Bryant.

  • VanCityBBall

if it’s coming down to the name of the player to decide what is or is not a foul i dont know where this league is going… the fact that the game was even in MIN is even more disrespectful and i still don’t get how Kobe can confidently say that he didnt foul him when the tape clearly shows otherwise… it’s like LBJ defending his famous “crab-dribble” but even he got called on that

  • Caboose

The L really wants the Lakers in the playoffs. This is absolutely pathetic and I expect a meaningless apology from the NBA soon.

  • Jibreel.

Doesn’t look like Kobe fouled him, looks like Dwight did though.

  • RayJr

I can’t believe some of you guys are so upset over this lol. The refs never call fouls on desperation half court heaves especially if contact is questionable.

  • http://twitter.com/Zoomy575M Ryan ZumMallen

The bigger issue is the Lakers gave up 117 points to the T-Wolves in regulation, haha.

  • LakeShow

Bahh… yes, a foul, but nothing worth getting upset over. They rarely call those.

Kobe’s random cursing in almost every interview is just weird at this point.

  • bill

Halfcourt? Someone didn’t watch the video….

  • Kadavour

you’ve been complaining about his language for years now. at which point does it stop being random to you?

  • bill

The Dahntay Jones “no call” doesn’t seem so bad to Kobe anymore.

  • RayJr

Yeah lets get technical. You know what I meant. Desperation heaves from half court, full court, 5 feet above the 3 point line, whatever…

sure, like the one when he sprained his ankle after being under cut on a fade away

  • chump

    Cool story bro.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

hey, remember how i was talking about how the Spurs aren’t improved?
i was wrong. and i can actually prove it. LOL

  • Michelle

“Video review by the league office confirmed that Kobe Bryant fouled
Rubio while Rubio was in his shooting motion,” the league said on its
website. “Rubio should have been awarded three free throws.”

By random I mean weirdly out of place and seemingly unnecessary. We all know he doesn’t have to curse to speak since he never cursed to reporters for years.

  • robb

the refs are doing a terrible job in general. It’s not about the Lakers. Remember when Dantay Jones fouled Kobe? they didn’t call it either.

  • Caboose

    ….go on.

  • Caboose

That was debatable. This isn’t even close.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Read my friend. And bask in the ambiance of correctness.

  • Caboose

    You think contact was questionable?

  • Caboose

Ahhh…feels good. But much appreciated for that. I still think the Spurs win it all this year, which would be pretty amazing for Timmy and his gang.

  • http://www.facebook.com/starkpwnsyou Joshua Maria Peter Bautista

Yeah I agree. They should treat Rubio as a star because HE FREAKING MAKES PEOPLE GO TO GAMES

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

I just don’t see anyway the Spurs get through this Western conference, and live to beat the Heat. This isn’t 2007, Gregg Popovich will have to have a considerably better trick to beat LeBron at this level, with the Spurs, at this age. Especially with them being accustomed to these shallow minutes. I don’t care how in shape they are for running around, the level of adrenaline and effort in the playoffs is not something they are simulating.

  • Caboose

I agree that Pop should start ratcheting up the minutes now before Playoff time hits. He likes to use the first round to build that contention rhythm but c’mon, these guys are pros, they don’t need the extra rest now. If the Spurs can enter the playoffs with the starters performing well at HIGH minutes, I’ll feel better, but I agree. The Spurs need to get that Playoff momentum starting NOW, not in a month.

  • Caboose

The random cursing coincided with the jaw thing which coincided with his first Finals MVP. It’s an ego thing.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

well at least we sit there. and that has been my main concern all along.

  • RayJr

I was talking in general not specifics.
