Dwyane Wade Says ‘Nothing Malicious’ About Blow to Lance Stephenson’s Head (VIDEO)

Prior to Game 3, the NBA upgraded Dwyane Wade’s Game 2 foul to a flagrant one. Wade, after smacking Lance Stephenson in the head with a flying forearm in the open court, said it was an accident. Per the Miami Herald: “Wade said he was never worried about being suspended because ‘it wasn’t intentional.’ … ‘There was nothing malicious about it,’ Wade said. ‘It’s an athletic game and it was an athletic move, but unfortunately my arms went back. But there wasn’t nothing there. Lance Stephenson and me don’t have that type of history.’ Still, Wade said he wasn’t surprised the NBA tagged him retroactively with a flagrant foul because ‘if you’re not there in the moment, it looks totally different than it does on the film. But I honestly didn’t know what they were talking about when it was brought to me,’ Wade said. Wade refused to answer a question about whether he thought Stephenson embellished his injury. After Wade’s forearm made contact with Stephenson’s head, Stephenson rolled away from the play and held his head. Stephenson was uninjured and said before Game 3 that he was surprised by the collision. He stopped short of calling it a dirty play with the intention to hurt him.”

    Durty.

Am I surprised Wade didn’t received a suspension for that Lex Luger elbow, but JR Smith did? Nope.

  • shockexchange

There was nothing malicious about the time he kicked that guy in the groin. Wade (black Ric Flair) is always “accidentally” hurting someone. The league should have “accidentally” suspended him.

  • berkamore

Nothing malicious? Gee, I’d hate to see what happens when he actually does something malicious.

Not a Ron Artest fan but I’m sure that everybody would have been all over him if he had done this. And Wade has a history but is still getting away with it . Go figure

  • pposse

he could have atleast went up to him and said sorry, the whistle did bl0w shortly afterwards

  • Redd

You don’t apologize to women beaters, you beat them.

  • Redd

Lol he deserved more than that, you can hit a woman but when a man hits you you get punked out.

    Wack a** punk.

  • Max

You act like he beat your sister.

  • pposse

when exactly did d wade change professions from nba basketball player to new sheriff in town?

  • chyea

The two things aren’t even relevant. Stephenson was in the wrong. That doesn’t make what Wade did any more right. Easy there, white knight.

  • chyea

I’m surprised that this didn’t receive a harsher punishment. But then again Wade didn’t get suspended from checking Collison across the court last year either.

  • Redd

So because idk the woman she beat it’s ok?

Idiots like you is why people get a slap in the wrist for what they do.

  • Redd

Oops, didn’t know treating a guy who excessively beats women like the waste of life he is makes a person a ‘white knight’, easy there with your low pos standards.

  • Redd

About the same time you idiotically said Paul George would make the Heat just as good if he were switched with Lebron.

  • keyon dooling

Stephenson was obstructing Wade’s path to get back and pick up the ball on defense. Too many idiots have something out for the Heat – it’s absurd.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

It was a dirty play, but let’s not forget the Jon Bones Jones type “hellbows” and chippy forearms David West has been throwing all series.

  • pposse

never seen you act out this way bout jason kidd, if your gonna do it atleast be consistent about it

  • C.M.G

in other news around the globe, the kid that blew up the Boston Marathon said that wasn’t malicious either

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Has anyone wondered what exactly Lance Stephenson is doing on that play? What Wade did is questionable in the least that’s for sure. But what the f*ck are you doing meandering in front of a fast break? Why are you basically setting a moving screen instead of filling the lane?

  • danpowers

sometimes i do that too just to p*ss my opponent off. but also only if two of my teammates are running ahead of me. looks like he just had a mental black out that time lol

  • danpowers

im with you on that one. no mercy for pricks. i like your mindset… are you really sure youre a bulls fan? lol

  • pposse

looks like he was trynna screen wade/ flop but got elbowed upside the head instead

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Then that’s his own fault. That is an illegal screen.

  • danpowers

i’m actually suprised that stephenson didnt get a suspension for that

  • bringbackthesonics

do you want a giant sugar cube for that high horse of yours?

  • Max

It doesn’t mean nothing = it means something.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Yeah I usually will knock the sh*t out of people who do that. Normally help them up too. Then usually it’s not very funny for dummy’s like you but it is for everyone else

  • Francis

Wow! did we all watch the same video? He jumped over the guy and pushed him out of the way… where’s the elbow to the head??? Wow! If anything it was more like the side of his forearm to the side of Lance’s head…

  • Caboose

F*cking meeting of the brain trust here…

  • pposse

hey hey CA-Boo-Boo since when did trolling become a measure of intelligence?! you again pass with flying colors, keep it up youngin.

  • Caboose

Paul George and LeBron James. You are aware how stupid that is right?

  • pposse

    huh?

  • danpowers

if i would give a f*ck about getting ran over i wouldnt do it. the idea behind that is just to get the opponent angry and normally keep him from getting back on defense in time. stephenson just did a very awkward and sloppy version of that.

that a guy was so p*ssed off to knock me down just happened twice in 17 years. both flargrant fouls that got called. i doubt that this would make me a dummy in that case ^^

  • robb

    Wade’s a f*cking @sshole

  • robb

just like you said, it was a moving screen, but that’s no reason to throw an elbow to the head of another player.

  • robb

Man, you really need therapy. Lance’s not your dad ok?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Yeah I did also say what Wade didn’t was questionable in the least.

  • robb

    yep.

  • 1982

If they went ahead and called it a flagrant at the time I think everyone would have just let it go. Because they didn’t call it – it seems like he got away with murder. But it wasn’t close to the JR elbow, especially since he did it in midair after it was clear they were going to collide. I don’t think it was malicious – intentional, yes. But those are different things

  • LP @ThisisEther

There was nothing malicious about mangling Rondo’s elbow either…

  • Michael

Fair call to upgrade the foul after the game. Wade probably should’ve been hit with a regular foul during as well. But overall not much to complain about here

  • MikeC.

A dirty dirty play by a dirty dirty player. Again.

  • Damien Riordan

Absolutely agree – if Wade was smarter in the moment he would have run straight into Stephenson and got the offensive foul called for an illegal screen. As it is, Stephenson deserved an elbow to the head – you run infront of someone who’s getting back on D, prepare to get moved out of the way! Stephenson tried to play dirty but got hurt (apparently) in the process, his own fault.

  • Damien Riordan

watch the play again – Stephenson is the lead Pacer on the break, offloads the ball then clearly lines D-Wade up to block him from getting back. This is the playoffs, if I was Vogel I’d be questioning what Stephenson was doing in the first place – why is he on a fast break with 4min left and he doesn’t even turn to face the basket???? He is too busy playing dirty.

  • Clos1881

It’s funny to me that wade is always involed in these “unintentional” plays though this time I think it was.

  • http://twitter.com/Esquire_J Esquire J

He also flops after every drive to the basket I wonder why they never fine him

  • equality

    U sexist?

  • Redd

You expect me to remember what was happening with Kidd in 01? I was strictly a Bulls fan then & never followed the NBA..lol.

  • Redd

Not sure why you’ve a need to take shots but you have a right to your opinion.

Very very random, but are you getting Xbox 1?

  • Redd

    Really? THANKS!

Wtf does him not being my dad have to do with jack..?

  • Redd

Again…how the hell does not liking men who excessively beat women make a person out to be on a high horse?

You’re a new kind of fricking idiot, because you stick up for what’s right you’re on a high horse? Who said I’m perfect?

I’m not, but unlike dumb f*cks like you, I’m not selfish & a moron. Unlike you I try to help others who have less or are treated as less. It’s called being a decent person..not being special or on a ‘high horse.

You piece of s**t & the Sonics are never coming back lol.

  • Redd

It’s not even that I’m trying to sound holy, I just don’t like the idea that announcers are singing this guy’s praise despite it being widely reported he hit women. There’s more to life then basketball.

  • danpowers

    indeed

  • Lloyd

You think that Lance Stephenson setting an illegal screen hoping he could keep DWade from getting back on D to allow George a better chance of getting a fast break basket (a basketball move) or trying to flop his way to a foul on Wade is grounds to elbow him in the head? Moving him out of the way and throwing an elbow to the temple are two very different things. You’re probably one of the ones who blamed Harden for getting himself concussed on Artest’s elbow.

Compare that to how Gasol reacted when he hit Tony Parker last night. Wade didn’t even turn he’s head – he knows what he did.

  • Ses

This again shows how dirty of a player She-Wade is.

  • Redd

Didn’t even read anything after the 1st sentence.

You should tell that to the countless women abused who wish & rightfully deserve revenge for excessive abuse.

  • DJR84

Not really Lloyd, because Harden wasn’t playing dirty to begin with, Stephenson was. The contact was more forearm than “throwing an elbow” anyway – JR Smith threw an elbow, and Ron Artest threw an elbow – how does this play bare any similarity to those? Stop being so precious.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni D dot Sanchez

    no joke lol

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni D dot Sanchez

    LOL DAMN! Wade!? actually funny

  • Lloyd

You’re remembering it all wrong then. Artest made the basket and turned to get back on D and Harden stood in front of him for no good reason, just like Stephenson did here. Harden wasn’t going to go through him to get the inbound, so why push up to him at all? It wasn’t on a break like Stephenson, but Harden was trying to piss Artest off.

That’s the bony part and is still considered elbow even though it’s not directly on the joint. Regardless, it was a shot to the head…

Yes, JR Smith gave a shot to the head: suspended, Artest gave a shot to the head: suspended. DWade just throws no look cheap shots like Lebron throws no look passes. Dude’s mastered the art of doing so and the deniability that comes with it.

So yes like I said, by the logic you present, if a player stands in another player’s way intentionally, that player has a right to throw an elbow to move him. Correct me if I’m wrong…don’t want to risk being precious over here.
